We had different symptoms but this is exactly what I needed to do. My MTD would creep while in park and the brakes wouldn't hold it. i had to give my clutch adjustment 3 rotations now it's back to 100% THANK YOU
After 7 years what took me 3 hours to mow my lawns now takes me 20mins. I put it in 7th gears and when i heard it grab i then put it into 1st gear and it works..Thanks to your video..I owe you a beer buddy. thank you..
Damn exact same problem on my MTD. As I increasing cutting speed, the brake lever gets depressed towards the front wheel. I’m like, how the fuck is that, that’s the brake lol Thanks!
I have one of these that was left at one of rental houses. I’ve been working on it for a like a month. I’ve done mostly everything to it from spindles to deck belt drive belts blades carb rebuilt ect I’m down to like 2 problems one is that the clutch pedal doesn’t seem to want to sit against the medal like how yours does you have to pull it with your foot to get full speed & the other is all the plastic bushings are shot in the front end 😂 I don’t ever want to see another Troy Bilt in my life 😅
Saw a clip on variable speed pulley on how to lubricants …thought I saved it …can’t find …must have deleted it ….. please run clip again, I believe it’s my problem with my Troy-Bilt pony
I’m working on one and the clutch falls all the way back towards operator I figured it is missing a spring bc if a spring pulled back under it in the middle it would pull clutch slightly forward. I haven’t started looking at it yet. Mine you put in forward or reverse and push accelerator on right side and the more you push it the faster it will go. Do you still have this mower??
Just remove the cotter pin with oilers, screw in toward the shaft, of several turns put it back, if lose do it again and make sure it’s in the highest gear (7) Count your turns in Easy 😊
the safety switch is only a factor when you start the mower..so you need to push the pedal all the way to start the mower, after that you only need to push the pedal in partially to change speed (push the pedal in until you feel the speed slack off), that's enough to change the speed.
I just repaired all warn parts on my 23-year-old yard machine (it's repainted, looks New) and I haven't done any adjusting yet, it only has high gear. I can't make it go slow. It only wants to go fast. If I figure out something, I'll post this to you, if you haven't figured out your problem yet?
Hey Jimmy, I figured out why my mower would only go in one speed and that was fast. I found that the tensioner pulley spring for the transmission belt was weak. The Spring had gotten worn out and wouldn't apply enough tension for the belts to move up and down on a variable speed pulley. I added an extra Spring with the original Spring and then put it back together and test it it. And now I have different speeds so it's fixed. But i'm still gonna order the factory spring & replace it, eventually. Let me know if you see this, and if this helps?
As I commented on an other post, this MTD variable speed has been around since the 1970's.When working correctly, they are great & can really cut the grass!
