Despite best efforts, some procedures inadvertently get mixed with some blood. This creates a challenge when interpreting WBC counts whose numbers are essential to diagnose infection in the fluids. However, when the sample contains blood, it becomes challenging to determine if the WBCs were originally present or introduced by the bloody tap. In this lecture, we will explore how to adjust the WBC count to account for any accidental blood contamination in the sample.
