This was so helpful! My brake pedal is up too high and it has too much play in it so I'm going to lower it a little bit and then tighten it up. Everytime I come to a stop I have to push down so far that it throws me off balance and I fear that I'm going to fall off the bike. Hopefully this fixes that

Just used this video. Hopefully it fixes my issue. Rear brake worked fine before. Replaced chain and sprockets and installed new EBC shoes while I had it off. Cleaned the inside with gasoline & a rag. Never could get the rear brake to really work after. Could lock it up before and after it's like it wouldn't even make contact hardly. So like I said hopefully this little bit makes a difference for me.

Thank you! If I ever pick up a project that needs a rebuild I will definitely document the process. So far none of my bikes have needed to be torn down that far.

Great video- thanks! I’ve got a sticking rear brake issue (76 xl 250)- sticks when in neutral, always, but I can’t seems to fix with the adjustments you described - any thoughts greatly appreciated:)

I have a 1983 cb550sc nighthawk with the same exact brake setup but even when I tightened the rod all the way down I still have about 4 inches till brake engagement.

I'm trying to get in the habit of posting some type of how to video mid week. Some might be short simple jobs and others more complicated. Thanks for watching!

Hey man, that was awesome. thanks for all of your videos. I am working on an 83 suzuki gs450 and have a break related question for you - When I push down on the rear break, it seems to stay stuck in the down position. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
@ClassicOctane

There should be a spring on the lever that pulls it back up. Make sure yours in on there and not stretched out too much.

Hey man! I have a CL350 and was curious if you could give me a quick brakedown of the parts needed to connect the actuator arm to the brake pedal? I seem to be missing some pieces and can't figure out what they are called and don't know where to even search to find them.

I guess for how to videos I own a 70 Cb350 and have trouble understanding how to do the cam chain timing. Your other videos cover valves and ignition timing but this is all I'm lacking in info.

I was pressing my rear brake and it all of a sudden seemed to snap and now moves freely with no brake pressure at all, what could that be?

Hi, hoping for some help. I ride a classic Honda (CB160) and the brake pedal can go up to 4 inches down which is obviously way to much and unsafe since it takes an awkward foot movement to tilt down enough to apply the brakes. The issue is the rear nut you mentioned controls this is already tightened all the way in. What could I do to solve this problem, or what should I maybe look up since I'm lacking in motorcycle jargon (new rider). Thanks.
@ClassicOctane

Your rear brakes might be worn down and need to be replaced. I would check the brake shoes to make sure they still have enough pad material.

Always great shows ! Whats your thoughts of of taking a Triumph T100 and trying to do RestroMod Desert Sled ,kinda like what federalmotous did with that Yamaha SR500

I think that could be pretty awesome. I haven't seen any T100s in that style yet.

Will you be doing front brakes next too? My bike currently doesnt have the front brake lever but the brake drum is still there
@ClassicOctane
@ClassicOctane 7 лет назад
I unfortunately don't have a bike with a drum brake in the front other wise I definitely would put together a video for you.
@johnnyappleseed7798

Not a good idea to alter the brake drum lever position from stock. It is indexed with a dot for a reason. If say your shoes are worn and the brake engages elsewhere and is moved aft as the video suggests you run the risk of over centering of the brake shoe internal expansion mechanism which eventually could cause jamming and brake lock up.

@@MatthewJFitzpatrick Got it running, sold it to a friend of mine. His father was getting over drugs and needed something to focus on keeping up/ restoring. Felt it was a better cause than me keeping it just to ride every other week.
