Izzy thank you for doing this video. It is so helpful! I always love to see how sewists adjust their patterns and this was one of the best. I appreciate the detail and being able to see you make the adjustments. I've been so afraid to make pants, but I'm saving this video to refer to when I get brave enough to try it. Thank you!
Dizzy, I really enjoyed your video! I’m in the same situation as yourself when it comes to fitting my body! Like you, way back when I was a size 12-14, I was able to sew up something and it would fit perfectly! But now!!!! My bum is flat and my “girls” have gotten bigger! Ugh. So, yes, I did enjoy your video of making those adjustments to your pattern. Thank you and I look forward to seeing more! Happy sewing!!!
Oh thank you so much - you’re very sweet! It’s so hard to sew for a changing (and aging) body isn’t it? It’s also very frustrating because it seems like the « standards » were created for a very young body with small, high boobs and a nice high round butt. I wonder how many people who sew right now have a body like that?!
Don’t undersell yourself Izzy - don’t experts learn from trial and error???? Seriously impressed with your commitment to getting the fit right. My biggest problem is my waist has thickened and is the area that has reduced the least despite having lost over 30lbs. Luckily not too difficult to fix. Thank you for sharing your journey. 😊 Lynne
I must admit, I HATE the work it takes to make pants fit, but it is soooo worth it. As I grow older, I find that my pants patterns require more and more adjustment - large tummy, low butt, flat seat, yada yada yada…..However, those adjustments keep me eating healthy because I don’t want to do those adjustments all over again, but in a larger size….🤣 Thanks, as always,Izzy, for sharing your sewing journey.
It does feel like a lot of work but like you said, it really is worth it. It’s amazing to me what a huge difference just the low seat adjustment makes. The thing I find frustrating is that I can never be sure how much of an adjustment I’m going to need when I try a new pattern company. Oh and I hadn’t considered that as motivation for heathly eating and a little bit of exercise but you’re so right! 🤣
Izzy you have a dedication to fitting that I really admire and your attention to detail really pays off. I am sure you will be very happy with the next version but this one looks very good to us! Really enjoyed watching your progress and not just because I'm stranded on a sofa and can't do anything 😂. PS I bet it really wasn't the washing going on in the background, it sounded like stomach rumbling to me 🥴🤣🤣 ❤ xx
I’m so happy to see this comment!! You know, both Marianne and her brother called me to tell me NEVER to record on laundry day again. 🤣 I’ll definitely keep that in mind moving forward.
This was super helpful! I never thought of doing that adjustment for shortening the thigh area to get that extra range of motion in the knee! I've got a Dawn Jeans pattern that could use that adjustment I think. So Thanks! I'd love to see more of these kinds of adjustments!! I think your pants turned out great!!
Hi Izzy. Wow -- I have to admit I was getting uncomfortable when you stacked up so many changes, then didn't do a second muslin and cut straight into the linen. What a successful fitting marathon. Thanks for taking us along on the journey, Antonia
I have to admit… I was a little nervous too 🤣 But I had been successful doing those specific adjustments all at the same time before. Thank you for watching!
Great video, Izzy! I'll be doing some of these adjustments on my next pair of pants. I might even try the pattern you're using. Thanks for the fantastic information!
Thank you! I’ve done a ton of research on the whole « scoop » thing and while some people say it doesn’t work or messes up things, I find it works for me. That’s the thing with fitting isn’t it? It’s a really personal thing and if something works for you, just keep doing that!!
Thank you so much Izzy for showing us how you adjusted the pattern. It was enlightening 👏👏. Let us know how the tilted waist adjustment comes out, ok. Happy sewing 🧵 🪡🧵🪡💕💕
I’m so glad this was helpful! The scoop will help with the fabric cutting into you in the back, but the drag lines from the inseam to the hips are fixed by adding length to the crotch extension. 😊
Thanks for posting this video! I made a totally hillbilly adjustment to the back of the Magna pants, by literally adding the reverse shape of a tilted waist adjustment. I still cut the front lower (as you'll do) for my second pair. I have only a few spoonfuls of patience in working out fit problems. I need to figure out adapting the leg profile of the Magna so I don't have to make another pants pattern. Ever. - Kelly
🤣 Your comment made me laugh! I feel the same way. I want to find a pattern I can hack in a bunch of different ways and just keep making the same one forever. I don’t really wear fitted pants anymore so a style like the Bennet would be perfect!
I’ve been making the Bennet pants Made shorts as a toile they fit ok but I shortened the rise and scooped, cut into good material and😮 what a mess 😮I had to take the waistband off twice and they are still not right but looking at yours and thinking about it I really like the idea of tilted waist adjustment I’ve a big difference between my front and back rise. You’ve got such a good fit in the back of your linen trousers they look great ❤. Back to the toiles for me xxx
Wonderful video, Izzy! Pants for me are so hard to fit. Yours look great! I want to make a pair of Magna pants soon. When you were talking about the knee/thigh fitting, I never thought of that with adding/subtracting length in the leg, it moves the knee area. I’m tall and need to add length and I do use the pattern’s lengthen lines instead of just adding to the hem, now it makes more sense, lol!
I need to make all the same adjustments on my pants, plus a fairly significant tilted pelvis adjustment, but I have to lengthen things since I am tall. So it was interesting watching you go through the process. Right now, I am toiling a pair of Style Arc Barry pants with a heavier cotton bedsheet. Hopefully, I will be successful. I've needed the pelvic tilt adjustment my whole adult life, but I only learned how to do it a year or two ago.
Isn’t it funny how we discover that we’ve had the need for an adjustment for years, but are just now learning about it. I always wondered why my pants’ waistband never fit me right and it never occurred to me that I could fix the fit until I started doing more research into pants fitting.
@@dizzyquiltsandsewsI know. That's exactly what I thought too. And I've sewn clothes all my life. I always rolled down the front of my waist and when I was thinner and didn't need quite so many adjustments. And if it annoyed me enough, I cut some of the pants front lower and reattached the waistband, but I didn't really understand what I was doing, until RU-vid, which I only got into just before COVID hit. I've learned so much in those few years.
Very helpful video, Izzy. I have to make very similar adjustments including tilted waist. I sometimes have to take as much as 2inches off the front. It’s surprising that when I wear the pants that big adjustment is not noticeable. I’m determined to get pants fitting right also. I’m making the Sew House Seven Free Range Slacks right now and really like them.
Awesome! I calculated really quickly that I’m going to need at least 1.5 inches on the Bennet and that kinda blew my mind. I really like the look of the Freerange Slacks - I’ve had those in my cart about 3 times now but never pulled the trigger. I really should just get them!!
Ooooh, your garment looks beautiful. I made this pattern and I love it too. I am about to make another one this time I am going to shorten the legs about how you have yours. I also need to bring the v up on the arm side. I think this might be a TNT.
Did you really!? That kit came up in conversation in a social group today and one member is really keen to try it, so I'd be really interested to hear what you think. I've had no experience with Sure-Fit but if they've got something that helps, fantastic!
@@fionajohnson5842 I might not be able to give this tool a try until October at this point, but it looked really interesting and they were having a sale 🤣 I’ll be sure to report back!
It shouldn’t have a huge impact because you’re adding just a bit of fabric to the inseam so there’s no pulling there. I don’t usually add a crease to my pants though.
