It’s a question that I get asked quite often, “how do I adjust the power on my BT65?” It’s extremely simple to do and I’ll walk you through the process here. Before I start I need to say the following:
WARNING, working on your own airgun can be very dangerous. It will also likely void any and all warranties on your product. Repairs and maintenance should only be performed by qualified, factory trained technicians. By working on your airgun, or modifying your airgun, you assume all responsibilities for any and all damages that may be caused to your airgun, person or persons, and property.
In other words.. “don’t do this at home...”
Now, here's how I adjust the power on my BT65

The little spring on the side (for the magazine or something) jumped off on me last night and i was looking for it for half an hour just to find out it landed under my nose 5mm from the place where it sits :) It was so stressful so people should watch out for that. Its the plate with the name on the opposite side of the bolt.

You are right Rick. In fact, I've changed my mind since posting the question. I also remembered your statement "that's pretty good for an unregulated gun", when reviewing the BT65. The velocities are very, very close according to my ProChrono through the first 11-12 shots, and it doesn't nose dive even after 13 or 14 shots. I'll be turning up the power but saving the money on the regulator. I may, however, wait until I put another 1000 or so shots through it, or until it's out of warranty. Whichever comes first. Thank you Rick !!

Thank you Rick! My shopping cart includes the Carnivore but hesitate to move forward because there isn't much how-to or maintenance videos. This video helps because the Carnivore is NOT regulated so tuning is necessary for the purpose of the shooter.

Thanks for the video, on my hatsan the part that holds the optics has become a little loose, today im going to tighten these two bolts. My is in .177 at 51 joules, its like a laser on 20 or 70 meters... so happy.

Respectfully Rick you should use BLUE loctite. It will not loosen but can be loosened with force. If you use red which is designed for mounting studs and truly permanent threads, you might destroy the screw head and have to drill and tap it out later trying to remove it or you might have to use heat! NG! Never say. Tnx for the vid.

I just tried turning down the power but the allen screw/adjuster fully backed off only dropped the power by 5 ft/lbs...it still is cracking out 28 plus ft/lbs...any ideas anyone as the rifle is just powerfull and accuracy is poor. It is a 40 joules model in .177 cal.

Hi Rick, this is the video where you are showing that turning the hammer tensioner screw clockwise is increasing the power on BT65 and on the other Hatsan AT44-10 Tactical you are showing that turning the same screw clockwise is decreasing the power. Please clarify the correct method for me with the AT44 please Rick. Thanks a lot

Excuse me, but I just purchased the .357 model, and I understand that there's a separate essential part that doesn't come with the gun, and I think it has something to do with a 'spout' for loading. Can you tell what part this would be? I'm going to be using a hand pump. Thank You, very much!!!

Is this process the same for a BT .357 Carnivore? I just bought one TODAY, and I want to tune and enhance it, especially the PFE. I understand the transfer port can be enlarged as well, and am wondering if it's a common practice to do so with these rifles. Please forgive me, but I'm brand new at this hobby. Fyi, you're a pretty famous Technician. Your name is common place amongst shooters, and noe, I can see why.

In America we call it Loctite (Google it) There's Blue Loctite for when you want the screw to stay screwed in permanently Red Loctite for same, except only semi-permanent. Hope that helps !

@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 9 лет назад
plls12 - generally speaking yes.. the .177 is not the optimal caliber for the BT65 platform, even with minimal pressure on the hammer spring. I have this one for testing the new H&N pellets that are coming out. Sniper magnums are 15 grain in .177 for example. So far things are promising. I have more testing to do. More than likely I'm going to regulate this rifle and try and get maximum use from the large air cylinder. Should be a fun thing to video no? Cheers AGW

Not sure if I missed it or ? In order to remove the HPA cylinder, did you empty it somehow or was it left filled and there's a check valve of sorts on it?
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 9 лет назад
JohnWisconsin - The cylinder is self-contained. The valve for the rifle is part of the cylinder. You do not need to degass it to remove it. The added benefit is that you can have more than one and take them into the field with you. Better than having to take your tank or pump with you. Cheers AGW

@AirGunWeb

I don’t have one anymore. You need a chronograph to tune these guns or you are just turning screws blindly. Try turning it in all the way and then backing it out one full turn. Start there. Cheers AGW
@SlingshotShooters
@SlingshotShooters 8 лет назад
Using Red loctite on screws is asking for a problem if you ever want to get the screw back out. It will take heat to remove it. Blue loctite is a much better choice!
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 8 лет назад
+Slingshot Shooters - I'll give it a try next time I get one apart. I've had issues with the blue stuff not sticking. On the other hand, I've also learned that some of the things loosening up were caused by dry firing the gun to much. Once or twice is ok while tuning up the trigger.. but sitting there and dry firing for 30 shots can really screw things up. Fortunately I have not had that problem personally, but others I've talked to have had issues. Don't dry fire these unless you really know what you are doing. The super heavy hammer hits the assembly where the cylinder screws into and starts to loosen everything up. Not a good thing. Cheers AGW

Hey Rick. I am going to put an Altaros regulator on my .35 Carnivore. Am I correct in assuming that the regulator will still do it's job if I turn the power up to about 110 FPE? Also, will turning the power up considerably make the rifle harder to cock? They're already a bit stiff, but after 5-6 mags it's no longer an issue to me. It loosened up nicely. Thanks
@AirGunWeb
@AirGunWeb 8 лет назад
+Big Rob - putting a reg in the .35 is not going to help you. The .35 does very well without a reg.. The reg will not give you the volume to get the power. You should not have a significant increase in cocking effort by turning up the power. Cheers, AGW

@lorka42

use no tools, and yes, just be careful not to bump the protrusion at the non fill end. they come with a cover you can screw onto the air tank when it is not in the gun, to keep it clean, and safe.

Rick, how would I know if I turned the hammer tension clockwise too much? You did not mention that in this tutorial but did mention loosening too much. My .30 caliber will cock & shoot but the bolt will not seat in the back slot position. I'm trying to get 75 FPE using the JSB 50.14Gr pellets.
@TimSwan
@TimSwan 5 лет назад
Update: I backed off the hammer tension 1/4 of a turn & my ProChronoDLX recorded Shot #9 thru #14 at 821 to 825fps. Using the JSB 50.14Gr pellets, I achieved the 75FPE mark & the bolt will seat in the back slot after a full cocking action. Not sure how to get this to rifle to 80FPE, though.
