I’ve got a 2015 kx450f and I just adjusted the valves too but now the bike won’t start just backfires. I’m assuming it’s out of time, I’ve got all the timing marks matched up on the cams but the tdc mark on the flywheel seems to be just a tooth off (supposed to be 14 and a half chain links with the half on the intake side but it’s 14 and a half on the exhaust side) is it possible that the chain could of skipped a tooth on the crank shaft ???
figured out way my fly wheel didn’t line up someone just slapped it on and didn’t care about lining it up i put a long allen key in the spark plug whole and waited for it to go back down so it’s gotta be that fly wheel everything else lines up figured i’d let you no 🤘🏻💨
if you screw the tensioner all the way in and then push a little bit more with the screwdriver it will stay in that position until you put in the screwdriver again and turn it counter clockwise, just barely touch it and it will flick out :)
I have z400 but I just replaced my cylinder head. I transferred all my parts from my old cylinder head to the new one because they are basically new. I tried to bump start it but It's only back firing. I checked my valve clearance and I have 0 clearance but My feeler gauge only goes down to a .010 for inches and .254 for metric. Do I need a different feeler gauge?
Kendricks Hayes Jr what are the specs for valve clearance on a z400? I would try getting a set of feelers that go lower, and I wouldn't try starting it if your clearances are out of spec
Kyle Holtmeyer I finally got a manual and it says my specs are exactly like your quad so I'm heading to the store to find a feeler gauge that goes down to .100 metric. I'll let you know what My clearance is when I get back.
Kyle Holtmeyer I finally got a smaller feeler gauge and it works. My first "IN" valve clearance was .102 mm and the second was.178mm. Also the "ex" side was .178mm too. My digital caliber should be in this week so I can see what my shims sizes are so I can replace them.
Kyle Holtmeyer I ordered a new shim for the intake that was below spec but after I put in the recommended shim it's still below spec. Do you think I need to replace the valve?
Hello friend, my KFX 450R makes my exhaust very red. I already did an injection service and it doesn't indicate a fault, the fault light doesn't come on, I calibrated the valves and the exhaust still continues to turn very red, friend, I don't know if you can help me with that fault with some advice. Since I repaired my engine watching your video, they changed the second gear gear, greetings friend
@@arminsosa5335 is the intake stock and is the exhaust stock? How far down the exhaust pipe is getting red? Getting red in the dark at the very beginning of the exhaust header is pretty normal on these. If it's glowing red near or past the heat shield you might have a lean fuel to air ratio.
oh ya at least i don’t gotta shim i got what i believe to be on both cam lobes .18 on the first one the other was about a.19 or 20 so they good the intakes were .13 and .14 think the intakes ok oh what you think about the bolts i no they different lengths from your video i’m kinda scared leaving them in like that but worried they mite not go in there right spot cuz who and why would you do this lol no what i mean
hey bro i just bought a 15 kx 450f and the dudes got the black bolt on the out side and the silver bolts in the middle should i put them in the right place lol thanks
I don't know specifically why they are different colors. So I can't exactly say if they should be switched or not. I personally wouldnt change them unless you are taking the bolts out for a different reason.
@@kyleholtmeyer7292 i’m checking the valve clearance i found out that the black ones are shorter and the crome ones are longer i’m hoping everything is ok but when i get the fly wheel on the mark and get it lined up the cams are still off so i move the cam with my hands to get the line and dot at the top of the cylinder then look back down at the fly wheel and that’s off i should of stayed in the 2 stroke lane this is my first 4 stroke lol but thanks for your help bro cuz i really need it man
Heres a cool website that you can plug in all your numbers and this will tell you the correct shim size to put back in! www.crfsonly.com/calculators/crf450-valve-shim-calc.php
damn thats a bitch of a job lol how do u really know if u need them redone ? my bike just randomly got ticky noise wise i mean they always are but i find i hear it more . maybe cause i just started driving it again i have no clue . great vid tho
Ticking noise can be a indicator that your valves clearance is getting out of spec, however I am running aftermarket cams and they are in spec and tick loudly. Stock cams should be rather quiet. It good to check them every now and again. KFX450 clearances are usually good at staying in spec, but trx450 need to be adjust like every 5 to 10 rides (from what i hear). Probably would be good to check your out just in case.
well we trail ride n beat the piss out of them id say they def need to be done . i owned the bike for like 7 years and have not done them n my buddy had his for like 3 n hasn't done his either .. kinda pushing are luck
