We explain how to adjust your valves on your chinese pit bike or dirt bike or atv. This works for 70cc up to 170cc bikes and many 4 stroke engines similar to these chinese ones. We set the clearances to 0.003" for the intake, but some may call for 0.004". Exhaust may also say 0.004". If these are stated on the bike or in the owner's manual, go ahead and use those specs. I use these specs for all my chinese bikes and have never had any problems. Hope this video is helpful!

I had a few people with questions on this topic so I made a video to hopefully help those of you who needed to see how it was done.

I think my pit bike has valve float. Will adjusting them fix that or do I need new valves and valance springs?

Mine won't go exactly on the line of t it goes a little before that and then the top dead center is that how it's supposed to go SSR 125

Thank you man I was getting so pissed I just rebuilt it and it still had no compression so I turned the intake abt out 2 mm and now it has enough compression for me to stand on it and it runs thank youuuuuu

Thanks I just did a 2015 ssr 72cc and was hesitant to do .005 on the bottom and .003 on the top. I've looked for the spec in the manual and online couldn't find anywhere. The engine case has no indicator to line up with the fly wheel either so the spark plug whole was the only way to find t.d.c. although the flywheel mark was close to top of the case i wanted to be precise so your method worked great and I was able to find t.d.c. and adjust the valves to this spec. The valves were tight and had no clearance although it would still run and not hesitate to start felt like it started better cold. I did a few valve clearance on xr/crf 50s and it's .002 for both in the manual I think this is for 70s to so I was hesitant to go with a bigger clearance. I guess bigger is better then no clearance at all. Any idea why honda 70 and ssr 70 are different specs just for peace of mind.

Thanks for the vid. Everyone says the exhaust is the valve that gets tighter but my exhaust stays the same its the intake that keeps tightning like crazy is this normal?

Yup. Usually always the intake. Unsure if it's the valve seats that are weak or what.

I have a 2019 ssr 170 that has very high compression and it kicks back once in a couple of kicks and it takes a good amount of time to start it up! and I opened the top end and it was super clean! do you have an idea of how I can fix it?

.003" intake and .005" exhaust could run 4 on both too
@michaelneville4393
@michaelneville4393 Год назад
Do you do both adjustments based on the intake valve being fully closed or do you need to turn the engine over to set the exhaust valve to fully closed after setting intake?
@bearkreekboys
@bearkreekboys Год назад
At top dead center compression stroke both valves are closed so they would both need to have clearance so you set both valves at the same stroke
@michaelneville4393
@michaelneville4393 Год назад
@@bearkreekboys cheers for clearing that up, I've set mine to the engines recommended clearance of 4 and 6 thou (0.10mm and 0.15mm) and seems quite loud ticking to me. I set them because I'm having alot of backfire lately and can I for the life of me get it to stop with mixture on the carb. Next thing to check is the jets I think🤔

@@lilnofresh2875yea I upgraded to a nibbi carb and set valves to the recommended clearance and dialed the carb in slightly rich. Carb was a pain in the ass as with all nibbi carbs but once dialed in and jetted right they really are fantastic and the torque and throttle response seems alot better

@Farmtractor
@Farmtractor 3 года назад
@@bearkreekboys alright so I adjusted them and my exhaust valve I didn’t tighten enough and it started ticking. I tightened it slightly more onto the feeler gauge and it started up great with really good compression. It ran for a bit. And then I go to start it again, and the compression drops like crazy. I’ll have to look into it here soon. And see if it backed up. But it seems that it looses quite a bit of compression after the valve clearance is too tight..
