I agree, but, a 60 degree turn is NOT a 1/4 of a turn, 90 degrees is a 1/4 turn, What the fellow was doing is more like an 1/8 of a turn, which is the max you should turn at a time. Still a Great video!

I have been playing the guitar since 1987. This is the first time I felt confident to adjust the truss rod...the tutorial is so easy to follow, and the action got so much better! I had been having a tough time playing barre chords on my steel-string Takamine, now they are a piece of cake...Thank you so much for this!

Hi sir, I've only been playing for like 6 years and barre chords for me is still a headache, I almost couldn't do it, I'm still trying to have the guts to adjust my truss rod too, nice to hear that you got good results, hope it does the same with me since I have to do it myself

The good thing about adjusting the truss rod is you can undo anything you did. Just don’t strip the screw or force it and break it. It’s pretty hard to break it. If you have some experience as a mechanic, you’ll know when it’s too much force.

One point i was always taught you want to finish your adjustment clockwise, kind of like when you tune strings you want to over loosen and then finish by tightening.

My Yamaha tightens counterclockwise. Strings should be tight while doing it. I loosen my two middle strings and pull them away from center so as to not harm the strings with the allen wrench. If you get the neck straight and there's still a lot of space under the strings, you may need to take off the saddle - the white plastic strip in front of the string pegs - and sand or file it to make it more narrow.

Thanks mate. Quite simple. I assumed this was the correct methodology for a acoustic but I waned to double check on You Tub first. After adjusting the above you might wont to check your intonation next.

Checking should be done with holding the string to the fret at the body joint(14th in this case) not at the last fret

It is odd that no one seems to have invented fully adjustable saddle and bridge on acoustic guitar. It shouldn't be that hard to come up with materials that are durable enough on the thin top of the instrument.
@aholder4471
@aholder4471 2 года назад
I wonder if a Luther would know why that is. There might be a reason. Maybe because the bridge and sadle needs to be permanently attached or something for the best transfer of the string Vibrations to the body. I don't know though. That would be a nice improvement. So would be the ability to adjust the intonation like you can on an electric. I'm a lefty who has to restring a guitar upside down every once in a while and on an acoustic, that means the saddle is angled the wrong way now. Bummer. If it was adjustable I could just adjust it. But the fact it isn't means I would have to go through the trouble of actually replacing it, which is a ton of work and risky work at that. You have to take a hot blade and separate the glue and pry the bridge off or at the very least fill in the saddle relief and reroute another channel going the other way. I don't even think it's worth all that for my guitar I got now. I'll just have to suffer through the wonky intonation.

It's not for the string action, it's for neck position (bow, just a little bow or straight). String action have to do with the saddle and, less frequently, with the nut.

Good day! When adjusting the truss rod, for how long should I have restrung my guitar? Would a set-up be best for newly-changed strings? Thank you so much for this video. It's such a huge help.
@craigpierce7996
@craigpierce7996 3 месяца назад
Actually, the string should be 0.008-0.012" away, depending on what gauge strings you play. Lighter gauge strings need more relief, they vibrate up/down wider. Use a string height gauge, not your eyeball. Note that setting the neck relief is but job 1 when setting up overall string action.

Thanks for the excellent tutorial. My truss-rod is fine, judging by your guide however, after tuning the guitar, there are places on the 2nd and 3rd strings from the 1st to 3rd frets where the tuning is out. Why might that be the case please? Thanks in anticipation. Kind regards. AL.

Hey there. We showed tuning the guitar in the video as it's an important step before adjusting the truss rod, as without the right tension the adjustment could be wrong. You can see further information about how string tension affects the neck in our latest video, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5ijAyx8_nUw.html

Hi there, and thanks for the tutorial. I have a Taylor that's always had high action, and am about to tackle the truss rod to make it more comfortable to play. Just wondering... you mention "steel string guitar". The difference is obvious with a nylon string classical acoustic, but is the guitar featured in the video strung with steel/nickel, or bronze? I'm an old and retired bass player who could play the electric guitar a bit, and want to play again (just around the house). I've never enjoyed this acoustic, or really any guitar strung with bronze. I get that tone is likely different with different strings, but is there really a vast tonal improvement with bronze? I'm about to string it with nickle wound, so I guess I'll find out. Anyway, thanks for your vid.
@ArtistGuitarsDemo
@ArtistGuitarsDemo 9 месяцев назад
Hey, thanks for the comment. The guitar in the video is strung with Phosphor Bronze strings. You are right, the phrase 'Steel String Guitar' is simply used to distinguish between classical guitars (which use nylon strings) and acoustic guitars (that use steel/bronze/phosphor bronze strings).

I have ultra light strings and the gap between the pressed string and the bottom of the neck is around 1mm, should I tighten the truss rod a bit? Isn't it better to keep the gap bigger because of the ultra light strings? I notice some buzzing when I play in the higher frets on 5th an 6th string... Thanks in advance
