Very interesting. I had never heard the term cabinet card. I have quite a few that I inherited. Some of them fold out, with picture in the middle. Any idea what years those were done?
One suggested explanation is that these photographs were the first ones large enough to be displayed in a home, perhaps on a shelf or piece of furniture, such as a cabinet. I am not sure I am persuaded by this theory, but I have not found a better answer!
