Case and point: For a project I wanted to do, I looked up 1930s to 1940s animations and played them before adding them to the project, mostly to make sure it was school appropriate. One of the first videos I clicked was innocent enough, at first. The two main characters wanted to vacation (I think) in a more exotic place, and took a plane they apparently had to get there. The two were talking when one pointed out something under the plane. It was land, Africa to be exact. They looked at each other excitedly, then at the camera, then reach into the plane to grab a bucket and showed it off to the camera happily. I had a split second of “wtf is so special about the bucket” before they dunked their hands in and smeared black paint all over their faces. I stopped the video immediately and slowly sunk into my desk in shame at the realization. I still can’t believe people thought that was okay…

A small pointer here: The "knobs on elbows and knees" thing, i dare say that that is not quite "rubberhose" but a seperate thing that some, mainly Popeye, had in combination with rubberhose, as i seem to recall several rubberhose animations without said knobs.
