Wow this is a very good video!!! Thank you so much for such a great demonstration 💗 I don’t have my machine yet, but it’s coming in 7 days and this video has helped this newbie 🤗
How cute. I'm a beginner............baby beginner giggle. I had know idea there were so many steps to this! Wowza !!! Thank you for making the tutorial it has been a eye opener to say the least ......................
Awesome instructions and you have a great teaching style. Also it’s nice to watch a fellow “left hander” in action!! Thank you so much for providing this video. 😊
This video was really good. Very informative and easy to follow. I haven't received my machine yet... a Brother SE600..I hope I'm able to follow along when it comes!
Do you have a video on how you created this in your software? I haven’t seen a video yet that explains how to setup you design for applique in the software. I would love to see a video on the basic concepts....I’m not really looking for how to digitize the actual graphic file but how you setup the basting, tack down.....etc. through the software. I hope I was clear (not confusing) in what I’m looking for. I got a lot from this video in how you setup outside the software to embroider....very clear and got some steps to help me out.....THANKS!
Thanks for your response....but based on the recent add to this question, it still proves we would like a video process. I know your designs have it in your purchased file, but I would like to know step by step using the software demonstration to create a design layout to get it ready for the embroidery machine; for example, the first thing you need is to add a tack down first before you blah blah blah....then step two...so forth.....you’re so good explaining things, so you would be good at showing us this process.....sorry, but you are....LOL
It does take a lot of work to make a simple applique shirt. At least it gives you an appreciation for how much love and care goes into each item. Thanks for watching!
I’ve had my machine for almost six months and after looking at this ONE video I feel it’s time to take her out of the box😎😎😎😎 your voice is calm and you took time to explain why you do things. I thank you for this video. I’m definitely subscribing!!!!!
Kimberly YAY!!!!! So glad this video was able to give you confidence. If you subscribe to my newsletter, you will receive some free designs to be able to start practicing. creativeappliques.com/newsletter/
I am very new in fact this will be my first thing so I hope this question isn’t to dumb I printed this out but the template printed out way to big it took the whole 8.5 X 11 paper what size should it be?
I would think you’d have a hard time seeing the reference lines through anything but a light colored shirt. That’s the problem…. How would you line it up on dark, or chambray or denim? Also what about a larger design than fits in the hoop? Is it possible to do something like that? Also where can i get the offset scissors? I used to appliqué pretty complicated designs on a regular machine with a satin stitch but i usually just left the parts of the fabric that would be covered by other appliqués, and I would iron them all together at once and then onto the garment. I’m trying to start up again but it’s hard on regular machines to do a lot of appliqué so I’m hoping to figure out how feasible it is to do it on an embroidery machine to see if I want to invest in one. It looks like a lot of fun. My mother in law has one but she doesn’t do her own pattern design which is what I would like to do.
I would use chalk on a darker fabric. Then put a straight pin into the center of the shirt and line it up with the center of the hoop. Do the same for the side markings. In order to use an embroidery design, the only way a machine can read and embroidery a design is if it fits in the hoop. You cannot embroidery a design larger than the hoop unless you split the design using embroidery software. Here is the link to the scissors I use: amzn.to/3x7atPk If you want to create your own designs to use on an embroidery machine, you will need to purchase software in order to create the file the machine can read. It is not like a regular sewing machine. Embroidery machines have computers in them that need a file to read and then sews that out onto the item.
Curious as to why you used tear-away stabilizer? I'm a newbie, but everything I've read says, "if you wear it, don't tear it." Does this only apply to embroidery, not appliqué? Thanks for a very informative video!
I am very new in fact this will be my first thing so I hope this question isn’t to dumb I printed this out but the template printed out way to big it took the whole 8.5 X 11 paper what size should it be?
Thank you for a great video! I am new to embroidery and had wondered how to use my machine to do appliqué projects. Your directions made it very clear. Looks like fun!
I watch a lot of tutorials on RU-vid. Thank you for all the information. I am a machine embroidery is very new for me. Yours is very detail and informative. Great work. Thanks again. Ho what machine do you use.
Can you make a list of the supplies that you used please, the different stabilizers that type hook that is as well as where to get one of those seam rippers with the plastic tip.
I have a generic list of supplies you can find here: creativeappliques.com/shop/free-downloadable-shopping-list-of-embroidery-supplies/ Here are some links for you :) Seam ripper: amzn.to/468n2tB Hooks: amzn.to/3QvMhAp
I have done several appliqués but have never done the heat and bond. Why do you suggest this when the entire piece is adhered with the two step tack down and satin stitch?
most fabrics used for the applique, are cotton quilting fabrics. When sewing them onto a knit which is stretchy, the knit has stretch while the cotton fabric does not. Also when washing the item, they shrink at different percentages and directions. Using the HNBL, it essentially glues the fabric to the knit aiding in the applique material maintaining its integrity. It also helps the fabric to not fray and be pulled away from the stitching
Sorry, these questions keep popping in my head when I’m going over my notes.....can you still find the type of seam ripper you used with the eraser on the end....I was amazed how little effort it took to remove the water solvable....
Ruth you can find the seam ripper here: www.amazon.com/dp/B00UY15X2K/?ref=exp_inf_pl_creativeappliques For all the products I referenced in the video (and more), you can find them all here: www.amazon.com/shop/creativeappliques
I’ve seen other people use masking tape instead of clips when holding down the shirts on the outer edge, and that also helps so your hand is not in the machine pushing the clothes away from the needle
Fabulous video, very informative. I had a slight problem watching you wearing your scissors around your neck, dangling down. It reminded me of a nasty accident that a friend had so I had to whizz through some of the video. Apart from that it's great but please watch those scissors :)
So adorable!! This was very helpful....thank you so much. I use a water soluble stabilizer for my Free Standing Lace projects, but I'm not sure of the type that you used today. I looked for your water soluble stabilizer on your Amazon list and didn't see it. Can you tell me the name and where I can purchase that light weight water soluble stabilizer? Thank you again and I look forward to seeing more of your very helpful videos!! Claudene
I am wanting to start doing applique and embroidery. I have just retired from teaching and have always love sewing and crafts. I would like to know what type of machine you recommend getting. I love your thorough and slow teaching style. Thanks so much
I would definitely shop around. Go to your local Sew and Vac and speak with them. Also, local quilt shops sell machines too. The one suggestion I can offer is to get a machine with the largest hoop size that you can afford. Inexpensive machines that you can buy online or from big box stores tend to only have small frames like 4x4. Unless you only want to make baby bibs or left chest logos, you will outgrow the 4x4 hoop really quickly. I love my new @brothersews machines. Good luck!
Terri, these are the clips I use. They are hair clips. I like them because they are very narrow so have less of a chance of getting caught on the machine: amzn.to/3i9y7TR
Such a great and helpful video. If making a tshirt for a toddler, before appliqué should I pre wash and dry the tshirt? What about prewashing and drying the appliqué fabric? I’m Trying to avoid puckering after washing. Thanks
This is the million dollar question LOL And so many factors go into answering this. If you are stitching for personal use and for people you know, then you can wash before stitching. If you are doing this for a business, then it is discouraged to wash before stitching for many reasons. To name a few, the item would be considered "used" if being washed first. Also, buyers being allergic to the detergent can be an issue. Hope this helps!
@@CreativeAppliques Thanks so much for the quick response. This tshirt is for my grandson so I will pre-wash it. Do you recommend pre-washing the cotton fabric I will use for appliqué as well? Thanks so much and this one video is so very helpful!
This is a great tutorial. I have been thinking about an embroidery machine but thought I would not use it very often but you might have changed my mind. Thanks.
I cannot find the iron on fusible on Amazon. It is all sold out. But here is a poly mesh that is not fusible but would work almost the same: amzn.to/35UJqJG Here are all the supplies I recommend. I do not sell these just can recommend them from personal use: amzn.to/3fFOy8N
If you cannot see the mark thru the shirt, you can always put a straight pin into the spot and then put a mark where the pin is on the opposite side. Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise in this video! I’m new to sewing and new to embroidery and with COVID can’t take any classes in person anywhere. You mentioned Cloud cover at the end of the video and I’m looking for more info on this and how to use it please. Can you please help educate me on this since my first project are Christmas embroidery design tops for my twin granddaughters. Thank you in advance!
It is something you cut larger than the design. You iron it onto the back of the shirt on the inside. Here is what I use. It has directions on how to apply it: amzn.to/39b2tmi
Can all embroidery machines do applique once the digital image is for applique? i have a brother PE525. Would be grateful if anyone who knows the answer could share
Yes. I have the Brother SE 625 and can do this design. The main difference between our machines and hers is that she can load all her threads on her machine and we'll have to change thread color after each section is sewn if it's a different color.
Creative Appliques Thankyou for replying. The machine I bought is the Designer 1 embroidery machine with a USB port, but it has no designs in it. Can you tell me where I can get some designs please.
@@warialdasue you can purchase designs from my website here: creativeappliques.com You will need to purchase the designs then download them to your computer. Once on your computer you will need to unzip the file then transfer the designs to your machine. You will need some embroidery software if you don't have it. Here is a great one I can recommend: www.embrilliance.com/jamaffiliates/cappliques You would start with the Essentials level software.
Thank you for wonderful instructions! (you don't drone on and on like some people who bore you to death before you get to the middle) Your instructions are precise I like that you can describe why you like something and let us choose... Thank you for taking the time to help me learn how to applique with my embroidery machine!!!!!
I am so glad this was helpful! When I was starting out, applique seemed so daunting to me. I was terrified LOL. But I figured it out! There were no videos on RU-vid to teach me. So I learned by trial and error. Thank you so much for letting me know this helped. Let me know if there are other videos you are wanting so I can make those too
I think my question is similar to the others. How do you set up the machine to do baste the outline and then redo the outline with a tack down, it's not a normal embroidery and I don't understand how the machine knows the difference????
Linda the placement and the tack down are part of the design itself. All these steps are part of the design. Step 1 sews the placement. The machine will stop. Place the fabric down. Sew step 2 to tack down the fabric. The machine will stop. Then you cut the fabric. Repeat the steps for as many pieces of fabric the design uses. Then you move on to the decorative stitching.
Jill I did not change the bobbin. Since this is being sewn onto a shirt and the inside will not be seen, then I left the bobbin with white thread in the entire time.
@Sue Spiers it is an iron on fusible stabilizer that protects both the back of the design and the skin of the person/baby. You can find it here: www.amazon.com/dp/B003XD4EAS/?ref=exp_creativeappliques_lv_dp_vv_d
You can do it! Glad this was helpful! Once you get the hang of it, you will absolutely love it! Being able to completely change a design by simply changing out the fabrics is amazing! Let me know what other videos you are wanting to see.
thank you so much. I am very much new to this and this was very helpful. People seem to forget what it was like to be new. So they assume you know what seems very simple to them. So going step by step was huge.
Hello there, the video was very helpful. I am a freestyle embroidery person. Now I am seriously looking to buy a computerized machine. Would you please let me know which machine you use. And I need extra workspace I mean lager hoop capacity machine
this machine is a Viking Husqvarna Designer 1. It is an older machine. I suggest you go to local quilt stores or sew and vac stored to explore different models. Another great place is to attend a quilt show or sewing convention where you can find lots of dealers present
there is a PDF included with the file. It is a step by step instruction sheet telling you what sews in the exact order and when to put the fabric down. It is the same sheet that is shown in the video :)
my machine is really old Patricia. It uses a floppy disc still. It is a Viking Designer 1. This is a great machine that won't break the bank. www.amazon.com/dp/B07C7HNX92/?ref=exp_creativeappliques_lv_dp_vv_d&th=1
I do still have this machine Vicki! It is a work horse. I absolutely LOVE it! I hope you get the courage to use it. But be careful because you might just become obsessed with embroidering everything LOL ;)
@@CreativeAppliques I love this machine too! it just seems to be the type of machine I like to use!! I worry that the screen will go out soon, though.....
