Fully funded scholarships are almost always exclusive to graduates of First class and 2:1. Some are generous to accommodate graduates of 2:2. There are however not many scholarships that fund graduates with degrees with anything below those honours. For graduates with 3rd class honours, this can be a depressing reality.
The Australian government in 1980 introduced the Australia Award scholarship to cater for graduates across different classification, but who have strength in other areas. The Australia Awards Scholarship is one of the most popular in the world. The scholarship fully funds individuals from developing countries to study a Masters degree either in their home country or in Australia, provided they meet the criteria.
The study and research opportunities provided by this programme help the individuals involved in contributing to the development of their home country on their return. Australia awards scholarships are awarded for the minimum period specified for the individual to complete the academic programme as specified by the Australian high education institution including any preparatory training. The Australia Awards Scholarship offers scholarship to up to 1000 students each year.
