How to apply Mod Podge or Varnish to protect and beautify your painting.
I never had a problem with Mod Podge, but a few tips for success, make sure your paint is completely dry, sometimes you think it is dry when there could be a tiny amount you can't see that is wet, Mod Podge, Varnish, Gloss mediums, work better with a painting on Canvas, Glass, metal, not paper, or cardboard.
Brush over it several times to make sure it was all even, sometimes you put on to much and it may look cloudy even when dry, I always do a test before I put varnish or mod podge on my paintings to make sure it will dry to a clear finish, always do a test first..even varnish can turn out bad, it is really hard to see the missed spots, and when dry you can see them..it's all a learning experience/

i recently used mod podge on my acrylic painting, and at first i thought it was smearing my paint around because some areas started to look thinner,, started panicking but the painting turned out fine. as it turns out, while mod podge highlights and shows off all the beautiful colors you used, it also highlights some of your mistakes (like painting too thin in certain places) just a tip in case anyone else starts freaking out that their painting is getting ruined. its okay ! i promise lol

Hayden Cornelius I used mod podge on a number of acrylic paintings on canvas last night. The streaks are deep leaving my painting textured now! Perhaps too much product? Do you have any experience fixing this problem? The videos are great and I watched them all prior to applying the modge podge. However, I have streaks now and everything is dry! I’d love to get the look of resin for these particular pieces without necessarily using resin. Although I have some resin. Can u put that or polyurethane on top of the mod podge? Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Thank you. I noticed when you zoomed in, there's an incredible glare. I sell my paintings online, and I sense if a customer hangs it in a bright area, it wouldn't look appealing. I use Kumar 1312, spray, which gives it a fresh out of the palette look with zero glare. I want a clear glossy varnish spray also called shot that seals like glossy minus the glare as well. Finally, the reason I'm here, is because I saw some ridiculously fantastic paintings with vivid colors that were sealed with Resin epoxy, so figured to check ur video first cuz I got a small bottle of mod I want to experiment then experiment with resin and see which is the best varnish look: Spray, mod or resin
@allisonprior
@allisonprior 5 месяцев назад
Yes that is possible, same as when someone frames their art in glass, the glare from the glass will not look appealing either, I make sure when I hang my paintings they are away from a glare if I use glass or gloss..I hope that helps...

Thank you for asking, Don't scrub or rub as you paint the medium on; just gently lay it on to keep the colors in place. The artwork will dry shiny and gorgeous, and chalk will no longer rub off on your hands when you touch it! ... The Mod Podge can be painted on the artwork when dry, or when still wet. It will work successfully either way, that is what I found online.hope this helps.

It can be matte, I like glossy because it looks like an oil painting, if you use acrylics you don't need to put mod podge on but it makes the colors more vibrant even using matte, try putting paint on an old canvas, or maybe a painting you are planning on painting over, and try the mod podge on that first, it shouldn't dry cloudy, if you put on a couple of coats let the first coat dry first, then you can add another if you want..I hope that helps..

can u mix acrylic paints with mod podge to make colored varnish?
@allisonprior
@allisonprior 5 лет назад
Thank you for asking Eric, yes you can mix acrylic paints with mod podge to paint with, but if you use it as a varnish it will cover up what you already painted, Mod Podge dries clear by its self, but if you add paint it will now be a colored paint....Let me know if that helped..

Hi I put a lot of modge Podge on my painting but it’s not clearing up but it’s mostly dry. Have you had the same problem before?
@allisonprior
@allisonprior 5 лет назад
I had that problem when I didn't brush the mod podge enough and left globs of mod podge on the surface, so you have to keep brushing it until it almost turns clear, if you do 2 coats make sure the fist coat is completely dry, I hope that helps..you mentioned it was mostly dry, it should be clear when it is completely dry..

Will it work the same on fabric I used acrylic paint
@allisonprior
@allisonprior 4 года назад
I never tried it on Fabric, but here is something I found on Google for you:" Mod Podge can be used as a glue to adhere fabric, paper and other porous materials to nearly any surface. It holds tight and dries clear. It can be used as a sealer that protects acrylic paint, decoupage, stain, fabrics and much more. Dries clear". Try a small test of fabric first, if you are happy with that then you be able to use it..

@allisonprior
@allisonprior 3 года назад
You don't have to put anything on your finished painting, some people had a problem with the Mod Podge but I think it was because there may have been a part of the painting that wasn't completely dry, Acrylic dry to a plastic finish, but if you want to give it a little more of a glossy look and bring out the colors you can use Mod Podge, or a Gloss Medium...

Will it make my painting on canvas waterproof?
@allisonprior

It will add a layer of protection, plus acrylics dry like plastic, so if anything is spilled on it you just wipe it off, if it gets dropped into water could get it water soaked.

What can I do to avoid my canvas painting from streaking using mod podge as a varnish sealer?
@allisonprior
@allisonprior 4 года назад
When you add Mod Podge as a varnish your paint won't streak if it is completely dry, always do a test first, sometimes depending on the paint, even the canvas or paper you are using may not take the mod podge, or if you use marker it may smear or streak, I'm not sure if I answered your question, if not, please let me know..

Does mod podge yellow over time
@allisonprior
@allisonprior Год назад
When you put it on your artwork it won't yellow If you keep it away from heat and sunlight, but I can't promise it won't yellow over a long time, oil paintings yellow, but acrylics won't, so if you put it on oil paintings it may yellow, maybe you could do more research on line, I have artwork here I put Mod Podge on several years ago and it is still clear and shinny on my artwork, it may yellow in the bottle if you leave it opened, or near the sun or heat..
