A lot of people are going with the smooth stucco modern looking finish on the exterior of homes. It gives it that expensive very modern and simple look.
I was doing smooth finish in 2007 and foam shape products I do my own work at my house . 2011 started truck driving good job brought back memories 😀take care bro
Hey, thank you for the breakdown. It was very concise and straight to the point and you guys did a great job. Looking forward to practicing on the back of my house.
That’s awesome . I’m so glad you floated the first coat , that made me so happy , seen a lot of people online not even making the walls flat . Brilliant work and good timing .
Can you do this over existing painted stucco (our house has a rough coat over it but we want a SB smooth mission finish)? Do I use an adhesive first and then two coats of stucco?
B D you may be able to find a product that has adhesive properties to apply first so the render or stucco can take over the top . We have stuff that can go directly over paint in Australia , it has chemicals and stuff in it to make it stick . Check with your local Supplier about options and different products to use . Don’t know shit about stucco . We use sand and cement and polymer base renders .
Great instructional video, Kudos to the speaker which he did as he walked along explaining the what’s how’s and why’s best tutorial I’ve seen yet ,keep up the great work, I could see your journeymen are well seasoned the way they handle their tools, thanks man.
From the beginning it was best if you painted over the smooth coat instead of having to fog since it doesn’t stick into the smooth , there is no point of fogging a smooth coat
Question: I have a smooth white stucco exterior like the one you have in the video. When it rains, the white color seems faded/discolored and looks not so nice, but when dry it seems to be ok and the white pops out again. Could there be a problem with the way stucco was applied?
Any cementios finish darkens with water or rain when its dry again it goes back to normal, thats one of the reasons why acrylic is better and more expensive...
What type of “mud” can you use? I’ve heard of additives, what are they for? Can you paint this to give it more protection? I’ve heard some paint has polymer or elastomeric or something so it’s like almost a colored glue so it helps keep the stucco from chipping by bonding it and is like an additional layer on top of the stucco that protects it and would have to get through the paint to expose the raw stucco. Thank you, I’m trying to get this figured all out so there is a logical step process to doing this and knowing the materials, tools and techniques.
You can use cement sealer after the application of stucco cement. You can also change the color of the pigment being added to portland cement to create other colorsm
Also , is there a product to patch smooth stucco ? After many years and coats of paint the surface is smooth, and most stucco patch is 16/20, and does not match. Any advice appreciated
I’f my house has medium coarse stucco can I just apply this on top and be ok? Or would I have to re do the scratch step and start from beginning all over again? What do you recommend ?
Yes you can apply another coat. If you have painted then you would apply an adhesive coat . If you want smooth trowel, then you should apply a fiberglass Netting embedded into bond coat (mesh coat) this will reduce cracking. Then smooth trowel finish. Please note : image imperfect smooth trowel finish. That is how we list this on our contracts.
Right there with you. I keep having ideas to do all these projects (patio cover, exterior paint, artificial turf) and after finding out how much it all costs I end up looking on you tube to see if I can do it. The answer is no. 😝
Hey boss......your using sto? I have a crew who is struggling in Florida struggling to lay down steel trowel smooth.....is sto better than regular stucco? We will paint after smooth coat....just need to know what they are missing....thanks man.
You can apply it directly assuming your wall is straight, and also assuming your old stucco is not painted. If it's painted, you need to use bonding glue like weldcrete and roll it on the wall with a painter's roller
