For anyone asking how he synced TR8 with the songs, Traktor has a unique feature that allows you to send MIDI clock either via classic 5 pin or via USB and also offset the clock so it perfectly matches the grid of the tracks. Check this tutorial out for more info: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3pgtYFl2CIA.html PS: I'm not affiliated with DJTT in any way shape or form, just wanted to get the info out there
This is brilliant - and a prime example of one of the greatest strengths of youtube and the internet these days! Getting to peek over the shoulder of an expert and learning from them, getting inside their mindset and seeing not just how but why and when! Brilliant stuff, keep inviting interesting people like this! I'm learning tons!
I have just started watching uploads like yours after a video popped up in my feed of a chap using just a mixer and creating a feed back loop to make music. I must say you guys are now peaking my interest.
@@zygote396 spot on mate, that's the one. I play bass and guitar, so I watch lots of music uploads and then things like this have started popping up in my feed. Know I have exposed I'm hooked on the kinds of this you guys are doing with synthesis, drum machines and FX. Just wondering if there's a way to get started myself with not much of a big cash out lay, so I can have go?
Me too some much variety and it's opening my mind up even further. So many unique ways to do music and live perform. There is no "wrong" way there is only "your" way.
Tom Cosm has an amazing Ableton DJ Template to do exactly what traktor does. However, I can appreciate the ease of using a traktor to do what it was designed for with a traktor based controller that JUST WORKS.
I honestly love these setup videos. I'm almost finished with my custom 12 track midi controller, (5 pots + 1 fader) * 12. Gonna couple that with my Syntakt, 303, into Raspbery Pi running reaper with effects and midi controls there. Hopefully add a Torso T1 when some of my other gear sells.
TR8 is a drum machine, tr8s is a mixture of synth, rompler and drum machine, many class A electronic artists use TR8, over TR8s( Carl Cox, Kink, etc) just because it's WYSIWYG tool, no menu diving, savings and loadings. TR8 wins with tr8s as a drum machine on every level as it is much better suite for live performance, programming live and tweaking without clicking too many buttons combinations. I had a privilege working with few drum machines, particularly AKAI MPC, from MPC60, through 3000, 3000LE, 4000, and 2500 in last years, and I found TR8 best drum suited for me, for performing music live. Or just for quickly making music, when in the studio, as I need less than 3 min to program sophisticated drum loop with percussions (and tuning bongos takes 80% of that 3 min:). Good luck with TR8s to be as instant and fast....
Waiiiit a second. Montreal? Hey Liam, I’ve been watching your videos and didn’t realize you were in Montreal. Keep up the great work 🎉 I know Mateo from back in the Epsilon lab and Turbo days. 👍👍 Andrew - FM Radio Gods
What? In Montreal? This is closed to me. Happy to finally follow someone in this subject living in Canada. Most of the channels I follow are in USA. Bon travail!
It is intriguing, and it inspires me to try something new. My problem is a simple one. I'm DJing with vinyl only (cause I'm to lazy and stupid to learn controller DJing). Old fart problem, I know. All I think about is how to sync a groovebox or drumcomputer with my setup? And no, I don't want to start a vinyl vs. digital discussion...
@mateomurphy so you brought your 808 or 909 along? Or are we talking about Mc303? Maybe an electribe? So let me summarize... a mixer two 1210's and a drummachine? I doubt u my man...
@@MrWassollich An Electribe ER-1, yeah. Keeping everything in sync was a pain but it's not much different than mixing on 3 decks, which is something a lot of us were doing back in the day (not always successfully!)
@mateomurphy the hassle is real, man... when I started back in the day, tractor was a thing for farmers, and an electribe was something you saw on a documentary about cults. A sync button was on a remote control for the TV. Please understand that my question was about something else...
The discussion about the Allen & Heath V6 mixer is spot on. It is the greatest mixer Allen & Heath ever engineered. I am not one for rotary mixers. However, without question, it is the warmest mixer I've ever heard. The Xone-92, Xone-96, or Model-1 do not even come close to the warmth of the V6. The V6 has been discounted for some time. They now run up to $20,000 on the used market.
Do you happen to remember what audio interface he was using? I was hoping you would pan over to show all the equipment...I did hear you say the Roland TR-8S is also has an audio interface built into it. Just curious what he was using? Thanks :)
@@LiamKillen Ok 10-4...I was watching other peoples setups with the Playdifferently and it looked like they were either using MOTU's or RME's...I have a MOTU coming in the mail this week. Thanks for the info and thanks for you videos. I'm eventually thinking about getting a Roland SP404 MK2 as well!! Hehe
how are you syncing everything? i have a xone px5 that creates its own midi signal by analyzing kicks from traktor. accounting for midi offset in terms of milliseconds (ms) is tough. i set it to 32ms which seems to be deece but its not perfect. how should i solve this?
That's one of the unique features of Traktor, it can send MIDI clock to external sources (either via 5 pin MIDI or through USB) and you can offset the MIDI clock by however much u want
When I was going out a lot and a bedroom dj in the late 90's early 00's Mateo Murphy was definitely on my radar. Would love to hear a recent live performance of him with this/similar setup, but I can't seem to find any recent recordings, hope he posts something new on his soundcloud or wherever at some point :) Love the sound of the mixer/filters, reverb and delay (and other fx) being used. Must be a lot of fun to play with.
What was that about 8 outs from tr8s? Yeah, but its for tr8ss sounds and 1 stereo for master right? So it cant be compared with this nrilliant mixer. Sorry, but few times you said nonsenses in this video.
Hmm I can't remember exactly what I said and the context, I for sure was not comparing the 8S to the Model 1.4 if that's what you're suggesting here. What I did say is that the 8S is a perfect combination along with the model 1.4 because it has 8 outs (not necesarily got the 8S sounds, because you can use it as an audio interface as well), and the 1.4 has 4 stereo ins - so it's a perfect fit in this case. Hope that clears things up.
I haven't finalized the system so it keeps changing, but the modules that I'm using the most are: * NW2S io to connect to the mixer * Intellijel Sealegs for delay * Noise Engineering Electus Versio for reverb * Multirover Multiband Stereo Overdrive for distortion * Cosmotronic Messor as a compressor * Feedback Modules MIX BX as a mixer, which I've just switched out for a Boredbrain Xceleon
@mateomurphy I would love to hear what you think and what you come up with! There's a lot more going on with TR8S and I'm sure for a hybrid DJ setup it could shine in ways I have not imagined
Dawless AND hybrid? Here’s a video for you my friend- you need to get your definitions straight: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yn3K23fJQGs.htmlsi=PxB5GoJiUtJskgP8
@@LiamKillen all that gear and it sounds very thin and basic....daw might be needed. FX might be needed. Actually using the modular effectively would be nice. Not a lot going on here. Very basic hihats / little loop things.
Please use high pass on the mic, it is very annoying to here all the handling/table noises, handheld zoom recorders are very bad with isolating that. On the big monitors it is almost impossible to listen to what is going on, in the bass heavy headphones too:)
Then I put Joaquin Claussell right next to him with 2 decks and a DJR 400 and he makes this guy quite and dump all this fancy shmancy gear in the bin.Not one word about vocals.
There's a few people who have asked about this - he actually showed me as well soon after the video but I completely forgot. Someone in my Discord might know though: discord.gg/xj8J2xJuBP
I wish you had discussed syncing. this is really the only reason I clicked on this video. I don't care about the TR-8 or using Cue-B as an additional aux when a "live" mixer with multiple aux sends is probably what you want, etc...
Traktor generates MIDI clock, which is sent out from the audio interface and into the TR8. As for the mixer choice, I don't know of any "live" mixers that have high/low pass filters and stereo aux sends!
Love your videos man! Just a heads up. The TR-8 shown in the video is also an audio interface. Single stereo in and each drum track can be pulled out individually over the USB.
@@LiamKillen no problem! It's not the best but it works. Another one that surprised me was that the TB-3 is also an audio interface too! Have a good rest of your week!
You'd have to reach out to Mateo for that one ! Maybe on his instagram linked in the description. Any other tech questions though, my Discord would be a good place for you: discord.gg/xj8J2xJuBP
nice! cozy lil setup! edit: video idea! making and keeping a clean setup that doesnt look like a box of cables got dumped on the table it was under at a yard sale..
Love your channel man, what do you recommend as an audio interface for someone just starting out with a TR8S + TB-03? I have Push 2 also that I like to play in sync with Traktor and am thinking of grabbing a Model 1 to mix everything together but not sure what interface to get for it. Thx in advance!
as a live pa veteran, one of the major bonuses of the model A I can see is the 8 stereo filters (12 on the big version). filters are the big show tool for live performance. The fact that you can freely plug in mono and/or stereo signals in through dual filters per channel strip is great for live hybrid. I do miss a top shelf eq setting. A top shelf knob on each channel around 12Khz would be very useful live.
I need to hear this side by side with the Xone 96. At the end of the day they are both insanely powerful mixers built by Allen & Heath, but I tend toward the 96 for hybrid setups. It completely removes the need for an external soundcard compared to this. Particularly when you are a Traktor guy, this is a massive deal... And while the EQ section of the Model 1 is more creative and expressive, its not THAT much more so than the 96. Especially with the crunch and resonance circuitry on the 96 filters, and 4 band EQ. And the 96 has a dedicated master instert bus for compression etc at the same time as techincally being able to run an insane amount of FX sends at one time if you get creative with switching between analogue & digital busses. You can literally run 2 outboard pedals, 2 busses that send to a DAW like ableton to use FX there over USB, and then run 2 further dedicated analogue parallel chains for distortion and compression to blend with the masterbus. Or any one of hundreds of combinations therewithin. It's a ridiculously powerful design, with the way they have incorporated 2 soundcards into one machine along with a serious analogue matrix. The soundcards are fully studio quality too, as opposed to the trash Pioneer use. And finally, you get channel faders and an innofader crossfader that feel like a proper DJ mixer for the 4 main channels... Far better for DJing than these horrid things on the Model 1 (and admittedly the return channels on the Xone). Those things are generally found on cheap, small format mixers from Mackie etc. Overall though, I just can't imagine it sounds THAT much better to justify the price compared to the insane functionality you get with a Xone 96 for less money. On YT at least, they both sound beautiful, and equally so as far as I can tell. So in almost every other respect, the 96 leaves the Model's in the dust tbh.
Great video :) I actually have a question about DistroKid. I would like to release some of my tracks with some Labels cause I still think that the Label (of course depends on which one) will probably give me more opportunities to play in some clubs, usually Techno music in Berlin (Im from Germany). That's how I see it in theory. The practical way of course can be different. What else brings Release on Distrokid than just be on Spotify, iTunes, Beatport, etc? It just simply let me release my tracks by my own and that's it ?
I use an Akao MPC Live 2 to sequence my modular and synth kit. But when I add stems from a DJ setup, I usually just mix these in based on the BPM from my MPC.
volevo chiederti all'accensione del mixer tramite pulsante 1/0 nel lato posteriore e' normale che sento un clip in accensione .. specialmente nelle cuffie? hai provato se senti un clip forte in accensione .. grazie per la risposta
@@LiamKillen Deadmau5 does this pretty much too. But he only uses Ableton. At least we live in an age were you aren't stuck with cdjs, which are great, but still kind of limiting.
@@LiamKillenI usually just beat match but I feel it can kind of pigeon hole you to certain genres. It always confused me why sync is such a hurdle for hybrid setups. You'd think a $5-$10k CDJ setup would have clock sync 😂 I started sacrificing a channel on my pioneer mixer and use the roll/loop channel transfer trick for any synths or drum machines that are plugged in. You still have to beat match but at least once the loop is made, it's a bit easier to control from the mixer rather than from multiple sound sources.
damned, just getting sad, cause i gave my old Echler Smack Mxer away.... never even thought of it's cue out (still have one in my usb mixer, which is einough of course) as an 'aditional' out. But the idea's great, thanks!
@@mateomurphy Are you using balanced DB25 for modular? Is it actually useful? Are there any modules that have a balanced audio path? Are you bringing the signal back to the computer? If so, what is your approach? What interface are you using for Traktor? Thanks
