Many foundation paper piecing patterns consist of multiple sections. First you make all the sections and then you join them together to turn them into a block.
This is my method on joining the sections of a foundation paper piecing block. These hearts will go into my ´I love my bike´ mini quilt. You can find the pattern over here:

While making tiny houses last year I realized this exact problem; trimming more then the seam you are sewing together. After making a couple houses and them being a bit too small... I did exactly like you. They came out just right that way. The houses are 3.5" unfinished. I have over 100 now. Need to make more. :) A great video for paper piecing and easy to follow as always.

Thank you Irene. I love those hearts and your attitude to perfection. I have found that joining the pieces is the most difficult for me and I appreciate you showing us your process which I will be adopting. 💕

Great video. I had the great privelege to take a class with Carol Doak in 2000. She suggested to first just machine baste together the matching points and skip over sewing the centre part. Then you can check and if it's not perfect, you have less to rip out. If it is perfect, you can go over to sew it properly again. When cutting the outside edges, I centre the block in my ruler and then trim the outer edges. I like your tip on putting the pins in - I'm going to try that one.

Irene, great tips. Big help not to cut off all sides until the sections are put together.I have certainly made that error...Thank you. Bev Martin from Upstate New York/USA..Fall colors vibrant , blue sky and temps about 60° sunny. I had the chance to paint the trim on the wooden addition off our 200 yr old brick 1 room school house this am...

Thank you for this, I have a small tip for you. To stop your ruler slipping when cutting your block place your little finger on the mat and the rest of your fingers and thumb on the ruler. Thank you for your tips with paper piecing.

What a fantastic video, I have been doing a cobweb spider quilt over many years on heavier paper (photocopy paper ) I use a lot of your techniques but am really stuck on getting a good finish where the eight sections in the block collide, exactly in the middle all n the same position desperate for any advice- should I remove the papers before sewing up, I am sure other watchers would also appreciate solutions or instructions for this.my own tip for the perpendicular pins is to add a tiny dot of basting glue in the same position, it really helps prevent movement.

Irene, the tea bag paper is quite thin. Can you tell us how they go through the printer? I haven't bought any yet for the QAL because I don't know how it prints. Thanks for your help, and I LOVE your videos, and looking forward to the QAL. :)

Have a look through Irene’s videos. I’m sure she has done one where she explains all about the different paper she has used for paper piecing.

Hello, do you put the teabag paper in your desktop printer? I do not have a good hand for tracing or drawing so I need paper that will go in my inkjet printer.

It would be great if you could do a tutorial on how to add sashings to the Sugaridoo Sampler blocks so they all connect and/or how to sew the fpp blocks together.
