Glad to see I am not alone with the screw issue. There was no hole for the screw, so I had to drill my own. As Furlup noted, a 7/64 bit was perfect for the task.

@y(OUR) Answer- Emily Cole What's most frustrating is that Bissell has clearly known about this for a long time, and they have made no effort to correct the manufacturing defect. The problem is that there is no hole, so drilling a hole is the only solution. BTW, my original comment had a typo, and the correct drill bit is 7/64".

Yep... there was no hole drilled on ours either. Took the 7/64 bit as recommended and got it fixed. Thanks for the tips everyone!

I had issues getting the screw to go in too. After reading the comments I took a slightly longer wall anchor screw and used that as a "drill" to lengthen the hole. I didn't feel comfortable using an electric drill on this.

I’ve made sure to insert the handle until it clicked and was firmly secured. Then attached the carry handle until it clicks into the slots on both sides of the base. The screw won’t tighten though. I have verified alignments the parts. Anyone else have this issue? I’m waiting on a replacement screw that Bissell is sending, but I don’t think that’s going to solve the problem since it looks the same as the one that came with the machine.

The is no hole for the screw to go into. I drilled a hole on mine and was able to assemble it without any issues.

I’m having the same problem the screw won’t go in for anything. It goes mostly in but there’s about a quarter of an inch left where it will not go flush with the surface.

Instead of driving a lot to nearest tech services as recommend by Bissell, I followed the recommendation here, it is 5 millimeters is all you need. The hole is shorter than the screw. A couple of turns with a drill will fix the problem and the crew will go all way in

I was unable to insert the screw as well. After removing the handle and carry handle (not easy btw) I was able to look in the base and discovered that there was no hole for the screw. I could see where it should have been. So, I took a small drill bit and completed the hole and was able to complete the assembly.

Same issue with screw. After reading the responses, I took a 7/64 drill bit and drilled a hole and presto changeo, it worked.

My handle won't snap in. It will not slide in far enough for the handle to click onto the machine. I think the machine I got was a return because one of the cleaners had been opened and the carry handle had been partially put on. This sucks.

BISSELL actually the plastic lines that line up with the grooves on the handle were a bit too big. I shaved them down with a nail file and the handle fits perfect now. Thank you though

Same issue on my sisters' 1964 model. The bottom of the handle is shaving them down itself, but worry I'm damaging it...

Sent my whole unit back because the screw wouldn’t insert fully and hold, as is noted by so many other comments. Evidently a defect flaw. They’re sending out a whole new cleaner. Totally disappointed.

Too fast screw for carry handle goes in at the back of the machine. Good video but way to fast and not as descriptive. I liked that the video focused on the machine and not on the person talking.
