How to Assemble the Ride1Up Portola Ebike 

I’m 6’2” toll 76-yr old long-term biker enthusiast like the Ride1Up brand ambassador in my local Northern CA area. I just purchased online Portola w/ 10.4Ah battery. And I have a high hopes Portola to be not only the best value lighter foldable step-thru e-bike I got in comparison w/ my previous two I already owned. I tested Portola with Ride1Up local ambassador in advance and it was a love from the first glance. Hopefully Portola will be delivered with added missing before derailleur guard installed already. Once delivered I’ll follow the video instructions and assemble by myself. I watched already the assembly video in advance and here are my experienced e-biker comments for San Diego Ride1Up company to consider. My hopes are that my comments will serve better all of the Portola buyers in the future. 1) The not-adjustable handlebar stem needs to be upgraded ASAP and match all other brands today in the foldable, step-thru market. This will allow especially tall riders like me more posture adjustable options not only the seat height. It’s a big supersize that such a quality-centered company like Ride1Up is not providing with adjustable telescopic handlebar stem like the competition? 2) The major competition in this most popular e-bike step-thru foldable category provide their customers with practically 100% assembled foldable step-thru e-bikes, so Ride1Up should do the same with a very little design effort, right.

Just got mine 2 weeks ago... The out of the box experience is really nice. By that I mean that outside of setting up the handlebars it's ready to go... You could be on the road in 10 minutes if you know what you are doing. The battery was fully charges, the chain/gears and brakes all perfectly adjusted and even the tires have a good amount of pressure in them. Some improvements... The printed docs are pretty, but not written for a newbie. The handlebar setup should point out that the folding piece is not square with the tires/handlebar. Once you think that they fold, you "get" it, but it should be pointed out. Same with the tightening process. Pointing out the three screws and when they should be tightened should be done in one big line drawing, not a photo with really small text under it. Second, a quick ref guide on how to use the computer/controller would be nice. I thought my setup needed more attention - when I simply didn't know how to turn the backlight on! I called Support and was helped within minutes by Chad, who was amazing! (If you are on the fence between which bike company to buy from, call their support line before you buy... it will hep you decide.) Finally, tell people how to use the included lube. Is it for the chain? A part of the derailer? I could GUESS but it's a $1000 piece of equipment, having directions and a maintenance guide would be a bonus. Still - we all have youtube (obviously) so it's not impossible to find the info. After my first big ride a few days ago, I'm VERY happy with this bike.. and as you can tell, I can be critical.

Handle bar install looks like more work than most people will want to attempt.

I don't find the serial number stamped on the headtube?

Haven't been able to install the derailleur guard the screw will not go in all the way....any suggestions?

My portola came in today after assembly throttle and motor not working and brake lights stays on.

So after assembly is there anything else that needs to be done?

How do you turn on headlight?

Definitely want one, but several Reddit stories about poor quality control and customer service are scaring me away.
