Just wore a detachable collar shirt for the first time today from Darcy Clothing. This was very useful, thank you. A few points that would have been helpful to me. If it’s the first time ever the collar has been used, make sure the stud holes/slits have been separated, before putting it on and trying to poke the studs through. I used the tool Darcy sells to open them up. I don’t know about all studs, but the Darcy ones have a pivoting head which would make them go through the slits easier. I didn’t realize that until my wife and I struggled to get the front of the collar undone. I couldn’t figure out how to use the tool from Darcy at that angle with the front studs. I think pivoting the heads would have helped, but maybe just need to wear it multiple times. They are very fiddly. I couldn’t get my tie straight or keep it in the collar well. I did paper clip it to the collar. It might have been because it was a thicker, knit tie. I am a very visual learner, but when there are a lot of steps, I also like them broken down in type to help me remember. How to wear a detachable collar shirt (with tie). Select collar Turn it upside down Insert tie between side of collar (big longer side on the left when right-side up ). Make sure tie is right up in the crevice of the fold. Take paper clips and secure tie on either side of the collar. Lay shirt out front side up. Insert a short stud through back shirt slit. Longer stud through the right hand side frame the inside. Take the collar and insert the back stud in the back of the collar. Straighten everything out. Put on shirt and button it to the top button. Take the right hand side of the shirt where the stud is, and lap the left, over the right (as gentleman do). Insert the stud through the stud hole. Put left thumb behind the stud and take the right side (of the collar) and insert the stud through the stud hole. Put right thumb behind the collar and take the left side (of the collar) and insert the stud through the stud hole. Remove the paper clips. Loosen the tie up a little (pull back and forth). Tie tie. Can tighten tight. Run a finger (on each side at once) from the back to the front just to make sure everything is even inside, no puckering. Can put the tie on the bottom or at top, depending on where you think it looks best (he likes closer to the bottom to show the stud.) Straighten tie up.

To make it easier to put the studs through the collar holes, Darcy Clothing sells a stud puller as well as the collars, studs and the shirts and a lot more vintage style clothes. I find it very fiddly and difficult to get the stud through the stiff holes in the collar. You can buy the studs and stud puller in the same box.
