Sweat can be very acidic. If you're a belt & suspenders kind of guy, you could paint over the glued parts of the straps with mod podge or thinned down wood filler for some protection.
I used to do these suits years ago, precisely 12+ years ago via pepakura, I did 3 of them. Pepakura has gone away and 3D printing is more practical now, and I've used your tutorials to not only successfully navigate using my Ender 5 plus, but all of your videos have been essential in helping my suit build, including motorizing the helmet, which was something I was NEVER able to successfully do in any of my pepakura builds, these are the best videos ever EDIT: When I actually did make suits via pepakura, I used these EVA Foam sheets I got from Hobby Lobby called Silly Winks. They come in different colors, but more importantly, in different sizes, from 1 to 5mm Now I find that they are perfect to use for the padding on the inside of my helmet, and you also may be able to use the thinner Silly Winks sheets on the underside of the armor to reduce scratching/scraping under the armor, which you said you use duct tape for in the video
Have you come up with an easy quick release for the codpiece? One of my first thoughts is that you’re in this all day at a con, eating and drinking, how do you go to the bathroom? I’ve been thinking there are probably some strategic places servos could go to make movement in the suit easier. Front top thighs look like they’d get in the way of sitting. There should be a portion that can release forward and then slide down, allowing you to pull your legs into a sitting position. And maybe the lower back could also extend out and pull up or something if needed so you wouldn’t have to remove the bulk of the mid section to use the bathroom. Or even thinking of a slated system like you see on window blinds that would pull panels up tighter or release them lower. I’ll keep thinking about it. Great job and thank you for making these videos. There are so many little details in making a suit come together that I wouldn’t have thought of if it weren’t for you.
2:10 OF ALL THE EXPLAINATION THIS ONE IS VERY HELPFUL, STILL CONFUSE ABOUT ATTACHING THE SHOULDER, CHEST BACK, CORE TO MAKE IT FLEXIBLE IN A FULL RANGE OF MOTION, CAN YOU DO SIDE BEND WHILE WEARING THE ARMOR AFTER HARDENING? HOW BOUT STANDING TOUCHING THE TOES? :)
This is defiantly what I needed I wanted to do fake prosthetic armor bit for my arm, and fasting it, and the bits on the hand was an interesting concept for me. Like I saw the gloves before you use, and was wondering "is just wearing the plastic with nothing, what its holding it so well? Like I played with LARP combat gauntlets where they attached it with rivets to a leather glove and its kind of one size fits all but as xl glove I can feel its not quite same as for other people with me wearing someone elses gauntlets, even if they did xl for space its like yah it was loose and comfy on you and on me its little snug and its get sweaty way faster with my hands holding a sword in it. And with the arm armor, I assumed it was like you printed a gap for elastic to go under, and loop into it, and then got the how stront is it, if I get caught something is it gonna break if I used PLA seems like a headache. But scraping it for traction, then gluing it and worst it breaks off feels more like safety feature not a flaw, and I can just reglue it later if the armor didn't break if it came off. Like I am looking at some one eleses stuff, but I want eventualy make my own just othere layer of my arm strapped on to a sleeve, then I love that elestic for fingers so it bends nice and I can wear any thin breathable cloth glove I want instead of fitting it to a sturdy work glove I would want to wear for hours while trying to interact.
Oh and I love the felt tape my idea was use some foam or like wood filler or even super glue rubber like my old dog tab silences to cut down on noise, but felt tape much much less work, worst case wear and tear on it, easy to replace, remove maybe light sand paper to clear of glue if want retape. I was thinking like stage tape, or gaffers tape kind would work but felt tape would work way better for not scratching the paint of plasti where they touch, and probally better at silencing the noise to. And magnets is cool trick too, like you said normal ones not very good velcro noisy and might need replacing after lots of use, but snap magnet great for things I want to come off, like if I want some thing light that for bits may not want to wear to some places or if I need to get to batteries and want it on outside not inside. Find work it cosmetically into the design.
Dude. I FINALLY see a flaw with your suit: YOUR ARMS ARE GETTING HUGE BRO!! Hope those biceps still fit when the con's open back up! ;-) So on those purse magnets, care to share a link? EVERY set I've ordered must be HULK STRENGTH magnets! They're near impossible to pull apart!!
I'd be really interested in more info on your "raft tabs" the type you've extended out from the back piece making a sort of backpack feature. And then covered with Velcro so that it can lay underneath and attach to the chest piece. Biggest stuck point on my build right now is attaching my chest piece to the back. How do I shape and print some rafts for the area on the suit I need, and how to glue the velcro to the plastic? Same CA glue?
@@Daddyshark_dootdootdoo No way I'm currently working on printing my own. And I totally agree he is awesome for these tips and tricks, as most other cosplayers use foam or other materials, whereas he is one of the only mainstream people that actually 3D print cosplay.
Thank you for explaining this.. One of the hardest parts of building is attaching it to my body. May I ask, what do you use to attach the Velcro on to the 3d plastic? Is it also the CA glue?
im making a Boba Fett costume and i always wanted the pieces to attach on the flack vest with magnets, so i can take them off and make it look like it a star wars technology, but i dont want them to fall off... what would you do in this situation?? Plus, in the mandalorian season 1 when he gets hit by the mudhorn, his chest plate is all jacked up, and if i remember correctly he takes it out to try to fix it, and you can see there is nothing to help it being attached to his vest... (Good thing he gets his beskar armor on the beggining of the next episode LOL) So thats why i wanted magnets... But im verry sceptical, and your video neither made me hate this method or like it, just the same..
@Frankly Built Any chance you have a link or title for the specific type of stretchable nylon you use? Trying to find the stuff seems like a needle in a haystack!
Those is the hardest part for me, I can sew, build the armour from foam, paint it up perfectly but I’ll be dead if I was forced to make a harness at gunpoint
Hey Frank, where are you from? YOu remind me of a good friend that passed away 21 years ago and its eerie how much you resemble him. Keep up the good work and I will watch all your videos.
Hey what are those pieces you add to the back plate where you put the velcro to connect the chest plate on the upper shoulder/ neck area...the inner parts..are they pla that you create ? How you did it?
