thats the thing about this move you gotta have a goodt shot and handles so people who do this are usually more ball dominant like melo, i think showing how to score with the least amount of effort would have been better like the jab step and step through
Always attack the lead foot on a close out or even in triple threat, it makes the defender have to change his stance first, and then have to slide, which gives you much better chance to blow by him.
***** Yea, I mostly agree. By attacking the lead foot they have to pick it up, pivot, and by then you've already got a half step on them. But it depends how much they're overplaying you. If they're overplaying you enough, you won't have the angle to attack the lead foot, and it'd be easier to just take the lane they're giving you.
These are the type of drills that works! Some trainers on youtube only show me a move but then i dont know how or when to use it and i end up forcing what i just learned. But these show me the situation and how to counter it these are great! thanks a lot!!
This is something that works really well for a quick bucket, especially for big men. A quick jab step in to a move as soon as you catch it can really throw a guy off.
Thanks BBALLBREAKDOWN for the vid! I see some comments saying "always attack the lead foot" or the step back three is a bad shot. The step back three or step back period is a hard shot but working on it for a last second shot or just adding it to skillset isn't bad and for players who practice the PROPER FOOTWORK with this it is useful. I am not saying that the step back three should be your go to move but having it does not hurt and can only make you more versatile. If you think that NBA players are the only guys who can do this come play with some of us in ATL. We have plenty of shooters who are effective with the step back jumper. Also he is not say that this is the only way to play ball. Its just extra options! I like options. Always attack the lead foot... I understand why you say it but "ALWAYS" I can't agree with. If a defender is forcing you left and is opened up wide enough that you can blow by him for an easy jump shot or layup than why not? Second reason why always attacking the lead foot isn't always the way to go is if my defender is opening up and forcing me right is I take what he gives me and get him on my left hip. I can use my body to protect the ball and as I drive step left between his legs then rise up. This creates space plus Im not using my arms/shoulders to move into his space then rise as the contact occurs. 3 point play. (James Harden does this great) Hope no one takes this as an attack towards them more just my experience as a player. Find me on IG at icanonlybejay88. BTW I was here during filming this and Coach Teohn is a beast on the court. His game is crazy versatile from the 1 dribble pull up to finishing at the rim. If your in the Bay area go see him and see how you stack up.
This Was A Great Defense Reading Video The Footwork The Ball Fake And The Hesitation Crossover This Is All Pro Basketball Moves Yes It Is A Very Good Video Good Job Everybody!
Great tutorial. Kinda curious though as to how would you do if they force you right as a right handed offensive player, I know it kinda sounds stupid, it's just that it's a bit harder to do stepbacks going to the right when you're right handed.
BBALLBREAKDOWN Coach Nick - This guy seems to be teaching not to attack the defenders lead foot. Unless he's really overplaying you, I think attacking the lead foot gives you that extra half step by making him pivot. What do you think? Also, everything in this video stems from the step back three. To me, a step back three is a shot I'd be happy to let almost anyone take. What do you think? I'm surprised to see you endorse this stuff (implicitly, by posting the video).
How to take long 2's... Maybe this is a good move to unleash when you are given the ball and the shot clock is at 4, but this doesn't seem like a high percentage shot in the NBA, Coach, unless you get super good at that hesitation and can sell it every time.
hey coach, i coach 13-14 year olds at our local ymca what shout i emphasize about this drill or attacking the close out in general since their weak hand is not as advanced as these guys? i have them pump fake and then attack using their strong hand i know its not perfect but its a beginner step towards this, any advice would be much appreciated. love your videos
Great players read the defense inches before the catch. Holding the ball and getting into triple threat is SLOW and slow thinking. We don't need more Carmelo's holding the ball.
Good stuff. I'm actually going to make it practice to my players. I usually work read and react situations for the offense. Greetings from Argentina. We tweeted one another today Coach Nick, I'm @lesandi13.
A lot of these tips videos are less useful because if I was playing defense, I wouldn't mind my opp taking a step back 3 pointer with a hand in their face. Therefore his two other counts would be useless cause I wouldn't really "think he can shoot" just that hes taking a low percentage shot. and the fact that your opponent has to "know" you can shoot before countering is also useless. There are so many generic videos telling you "moves" but so many are exaggerating their effectiveness. Rather than specific "moves", I prefer your other vids or pro shot's where you learn the hop/turn etc, or learning how to finish with contact, cause not every possessions has your opponent getting faked with such exaggeration.
XNW Yeah, I definitely agree about the step back three. Idk what level he's targeting, but unless you're Steph Curry or a couple other NBA guys, that's not a shot you want to take.
Adam Zerner Well, you can still use this closer to the basket (like pivoting out of the post into a triple threat). I would say it depends on your skill and range, you don't have to be steph curry to hit step back threes.
XNW good point on the step back 3 pointer. The only step back I feel is effective on practice is after selling the hesitation for a long 2 usually. At that point however the hesitation comes with the fact that you can attack the rim with it.
this is true for the 3 point shot distance but you can easily do the 3 point threat upon catching this on the post. this is very effective for players who aren't skilled with their back to basket and prefer the triple threat.
