I came across this video and found your product to be one of the most well engineered solutions for anyone looking to buy a quality product and enjoy it for years. Your pricing is not unreasonable compared to some of the other "junk" that I have looked at that is sold in stores. I checked out your page, and will look forward to placing an order when you have some available for sale. It really answered a lot of the questions that I have for guarding against attacks, compartment size, nest cleanliness, ventilation (as it gets pretty hot here in Coastal GA), and the fact that you build out of good materials and I can put money in an individual's pocket who cares about the hobby, rather than a corporation, goes a long way to being a rewarding business venture!
You got me as a new sub. I've noticed that sparrows don't seem to care for nesting in gourds. Would this be the same for the Chirpynests? What about tree swallows? In my area they seem to arrive about a month before the martins. If I provide them alternate more ground-level housing in the form of a gourd or bluebird house, they seem to lose interest in my martin housing once they've established a nest elsewhere.
If you have martins already then the tree swallows shouldn’t be an issue. If you are trying for your first martins, you should get the TS established before martins arrive. They will try to nest in ChirpyNest. The sparrows don’t give me problems here. I do have others using ChirpyNest houses that do have to battle sparrows. They also have problems in their gourds. If they are not a problem with your gourds then I don’t think they will be a problem in ChirpyNest. I wish I could say that sparrows won’t nest in them but I think it depends on how many are around. Tim Davis Tim. The best measure to deal with hawks is to give the housing wide open space so that the martins can see hawks as they approach. Martins and other birds sound the alarm and fly off in defense. Many landlords use decoys especially where trees may give cover to a stalking hawk. that throw the hawk off, giving the martins a better chance.
You can buy 12 troyer horizontal gourds at half the cost as 12 chirpy nests. Both are fairly pricey. I think you have a good product but the aluminum makes your price point less competitive.
That One guy ChirpyNest is more costly than the troyers horizontals but offer much more such as removable nest tray , ventilation, drainage and are much easier to service. THGs even when vented have higher nest cavity temperatures. when the nest is built in THGs and other plastic, as well as naturals the drainage holes are plugged allowing nests to get wet from rain as well as condensation from inside respiration and condensation. Being able to check nests from the front is another factor that makes ChirpyNest much easier to service. It’s easier to make a cheaper cavity but I am going for a better cavity for the martins and the landlords . Thanks for checking out ChirpyNest.
