would lubricating the bridge with pencil graphite to help the strings not pull on the bridge so much when tuning?? I have had this happen before, and wondered what caused it.
The 90 degree angle is not always quite so obvious how to measure. At least on my violins the top starts to curve rather quickly behind the bridge. The area in front of the bridge however is flat for a longer distance and I find it easier to measure the angle from there instead by placing the business card to the side of the bridge.
