Mitch - I literally had a company come out today & did the low quote then he had to talk to the supervisor outside my home to come let me know he found mold so the price went up to $800 like you said! JEEZ. I am so glad I watched this video afterwards! Saved me my money & so passed on their services because he was leaning to just cleaning the branches! GREAT VIDEO!
$800 is not bad if they did what they supposed to do. Mitch did not give you a price in the video because every house is different. not to mention paying for UV-Light.
@@Watchmen93 The bastards at Patrick AC in Ocala tried to get us for $4200 for the UV light!….one guy comes for the work…the other guy’s job is to upsell/steal $4000 from you…UV bulb replacement cost $29..
I cannot thank you enough for this video. Being female head of household and having the knowledge I need, I won't be taken advantage of. I only wish I lived in St. Louis. I would hire you in a minute.
Hi Mitch! I am a former educator. You did a great job! I learned a lot…plus reasons why my house gets severely dusty. I wish you were not so far away. I desperately need your expertise. ❤️👍🏻👏🏻
Your are very honest person, everything show on your face , a true guy, salute to your parents who give birth to a nice person and teach you the values and your teacher they taught you well knowledge.
Yup thankfully I made 2 appointments today one company said 100$ asked over 2k geez. Now am watching this video making me feel better thankfully I said no and send them away. Now hopefully I can find a company clean for 500-800$ more reasonable price for 1400sq space.
Don't get the best filter you can find. Change cheap filters once a month. You raise the static pressure in a system causing the blower to work harder to pump the air. That's why capacitors go bad so quick too, thick filters cause heavy load on startup. Then lazy techs throw hard starts on systems they told people to put thick HEPA filters in. Filter changing and a i-wave r will keep the return plenum and coil clean and the i-wave r will kill bacteria and mold!
Great job explaining how this whole system works, I really appreciate this lesson and can definitely see how the scams go. They basically only take care of the stuff I should be least worried about. No confusion you did a fantastic job at dissecting all parts. In my case the system is not in the basement, mine is in the attic but still I learnt a lot from you today ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍🙏
How is this a scam ? If you’re getting provided a service to make your furnace more efficient? And new construction debris ? Also growth nasty shit I recommend everyone to have an halo led installed .
Your explanation is amazing and has opened my eyes on what to expect and how to address things with a likely service provider… thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!
This is awesome! Very informative and well done video. Thank you for taking the time to educate people on this stuff. Wish your services were available in Columbus OH.
Wow! This was an amazing video. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I'm currently looking into getting my vents cleaned and this video was just perfect. 🙂
Very informative video. Thank you for taking your time with the explanation of the HVAC system. I have noticed mold growing on the door that closes in front of my furnace. I now know what to look for when shopping around for servicemen. Thanks!
Informative. But, I noticed you never said the charges were too much, just that the coupon is a lure for the upsell. My take away is to just ask for transparency of the cost for a full cleaning.
I like your videos. I clean furnaces and this is so insightful. I wish you were my boss so I could do a better job. We don't do furnace scams. But we try our best with what were given. We charge 250. But these guys go way beyond what we can do.
Fantastic and informative! So, the "Groupon Scam special" you stated is normally upsold from $129 to roughly $800 which you illustrated was unreasonable! They prey against the elderly! Thank you!!! So, if a reputable duct cleaning company cleans the vents, trunk lines and the plenom, generally speaking, can the homeowner expect to be charged less than the $800 and should this cleaning be done every year? I suppose that the total will depend on whether they buy the air scrubbing system technicians will try to sell homeowners for around $1,500. These ultraviolet air scrubbers are on all of the time and burn out after 3 months needing replacement $250 each time. Are these air purifiers really effective in stopping dust travel and mold spores? Thank you very much, Mitch!
A couple advantages to our house-- we don't have return ducts, just vents below the furnace in a central closet. And our supply vents are in the ceiling where people can't drop random garbage into them. But the house is over 50 years old and I doubt the system has ever been cleaned. So no telling how bad it actually is.
@@HYPERIAQ I've been looking at media filters but can't find any info on the conversion. The stock filter is in a tray under the furnace. I don't know if I can just bolt on a bigger tray or what. All the videos I've seen show building a plenum to attach the new filter in the return duct. I did pull one of the grills off and clean the return plenum with the shop vac. That was an eye opening experience.
Mostly spot on…except the ULV gadget. 90 percent of all mold spores in the air you breathe or going through the plenum out the registers are dead spores. Remember, mold does not make you sick spores do, so ditch the light, ditch ozone and use a MERV 10-12 pleated filter, don’t go much higher than this because your air handler has a static pressure switch and also it can strain the blower assembly and the high MERV rating will not allow air to pull through the pleats. FYI …Dead mold spores or Alive mold spores react the same biological on your body. Capture the spores, or evacuate the spores .. Great video
I suspect it may be cheaper to replace furnace and ducts with properly sized ducts vs the box and tub system I see here. I vacuumed my supply duct years ago when moving in and It was unreal what was in the duct. I believe a filter at the grill(s) to the duct would be ideal.
Loved the inside look at exactly what's going on. I'm in Florida near Tampa and awaiting an estimate from a Stanley Steemer franchise. Hope they use these protocols, now I do know what to be looking for!
You're Awesome, this is excellent information! I wish you would had added specifically what questions to ask the company. 😁 We're due to have our duct cleaned tomorrow and I want to make sure it will be done thorough and properly. We moved into a much older home and bugs are coming up through the events and also kids are suffering tremendously from allergies. I have to vaccum every day our home gets full of dust and dirt.
I loved your other video about duct cleaning scams, informative AND entertaining! I've started noticing my air filter getting CAKED in gray/black within 1-2 weeks(even using a high quality one!) & My kids are having allergy-type symptoms so..I know mine need to be cleaned badly. But last year I was told with new laws (regarding the refrigerant) going into effect, HVAC people wouldn't be allowed to work on our system anymore. I'd have to get a new one. Even if not true, I just don't know who to even trust to do it now! So.. Do you think if I were to rent a negative air machine, buy an air whip and/or rotary brush, & use my high powered air compressor, would it be possible that I could clean the system myself? I wish I could just hire you, if I were local to your area!
I’m not sure that this type of equipment is rentable to my knowledge. I’m also curious about why your filters are black. Do you burn a lot of candles by chance? Let me know where you’re at on the planet and I can see if I have a referral for you! 😃
@seraphina.Your air conditioner can still be worked on, it doesn't matter that it has the old R-22 refrigerant in it, but it is extremely expensive if you need to recharge your system. So no it's not that they can't work on it, they just want you to buy a new air conditioner.
But if they told you exactly that I would think about getting a second opinion. The only time we say that is when we can’t find parts to fix or in the case of an old furnace it is very old and there is a high probability of becoming liable for touching it in case it harms people and we were the last company to touch it.
@@HYPERIAQ I'm in the Inverness (central Florida area) could you please recommend someone really honest. I had two HVAC guys here the other day that wanted $4,400.00 to sell me two UV lights to clean the mold. So tired of the fraud.
Don’t get sold people into cleaning your supplier it’s good to do yes but generally speaking 99% of all of the debris is in your return air duct get filter grills and this guy will go out of business
If that made the 'great place for mold to grow' out of Copper or Silver it would NOT be a great place for mold to grow thus the industry who cleans and the companies that made the equipment mutually benefit by not making it out of the materials required to make it not a great place for mold to grow.
Hey Mitch.. I'm not from your state, but I just wanted to tell you there is no contact link on your YT channel.. you guys need one. And thanks for the information. I learned a whole lot from this video.
My house has made me sick...Now I'm going back and forth to specialist and in contact pain.. I paid havac ppl 2500.. to install something to clean air coming into house..7800.00 for whole house reverse osmosis unit...Its hard to trust now many just care about money..My family and I am worried if I'm now dying.. I'm just going to move, sell this house..I hate it now.. I wouldn't do to anyone what has been done to me.. Everyone after $$$..
Do not get hustled on UV lights unless your coils are clean, and if you just want that mental security… It’s not a fix for mold, dead mold is just as allergenic/toxigenic as viable mold. It’s still going to be there. The EPA and NADCA both do not condone fogging antimicrobials in HVAC systems either. Look it up. The fog loses its efficacy after a couple of feet. And once again, we’re not removing, we’re still killing, which goes against the Standard For Care, which is the removal/remediation of microbial growth. The goal is to just not get mold in your system with proper filtration so you should never even need to clean anything. Watch for duct leakage that can cause sweating too. No moisture, no mold. New builds need duct cleaning unfortunately because of all of the building dust.
From what I understand, the UV light should consist of at least 2, at about $2000, and the bulbs last two years $350 each to replace. It takes about 30 min for UV light to kill mold, but isn’t a majority of the air just go rushing past? How does UV light perform cleaning? Would an in-line whole home air purifier work better? Maybe a dehumidifier?
Is the supply line the same thing as the trunk line? I am so fed up with all the different terms you people have for the very same item! Feel like I'm losing my mind.
thanks for the educational video and great insights in lucid layman terms ... what would be the practical service charge look like>? I have been offered $498 for 2 units including Dryer vent cleaning and also other provider $900 for 2 units in GA... I am okay to pay more money as long as I receive the service in total like hyper :-) no kidding 100% agree that we need all services together as a whole .Wish I would have in GA ... thanks for sharing this video again .
Mid range air filter is preferable in most situations. A cheap one let's too much thru. The most expensive one restricts air sometimes causing a problem.
How come you’re not mentioning that you need to cover up all electrical wires if you have a UV light installed do you know what those lights do the wires
I'm in Georgia. I believe my system is very funky. I use the bestest air filter because I do have furry friends living with me! Anyhow, I got a quote of $600 (one AC unit and 16k square feet home). I'm so afraid of getting scammed again.
@@HYPERIAQ had a guy come for an annual inspection. Same company that installed my new furnace and AC. He took a delta measurement of the furnace and that's basically it. It's kinda frustrating realizing how scammy and lazy this industry is. Just bought my first house in 2019.
@@HYPERIAQ I hired a "full blown cleaning" either right before or right after my new furnace and AC was installed. But now I have birds in there. Which has set me on this duct cleaning journey again...
@@donaldcedar7574 another thing you could do is, you could turn the flash on your phone on put it down in one of your supply events or return vents, but be careful not to drop it lol. Take a picture and check it out that account to tell you where you’re at as well. As far as check in the furnace I would definitely have a certified company do that though cause you want to look on the top and bottom side of the coils.
We are NADCA certified and mold remediation specialists, through both NADCA and the IICRC. But your are right most of the air duct cleaning companies are not certified or properly insured.
Could this help me get rid off the cigarette smell out of a house? I just bought a house and the smell is unbearable to me.. I'm considering having my system clean.
Would you agree that is pointless cleaning the evaporated coils without changing the plenum? I had a company come out to quote me for a cleaning and they want me to replace the plenum. For best results. I hate to get trapped into this scams
@@leydamoncada4851 I would disagree with that your Plenum can be completely restored back to new as long as it’s a hard surface like sheet-metal. if it’s poorce fiber board then yes replacement could be a good option
My A/C in facing the inner part, a technician once told me that he cannot clean my a/c bc he has no access. But others has come clean and I pay for it. What exactly I need to know? Am being ripped off all this time? Now I need to clean my vent bc of allergies and bc I did some remodeling in the house and the air is coming dirty out the vent. How do I know they are really cleaning everything they are supposed to?🤔
@@HYPERIAQ thanks! I am looking for many and different prices here in Orlando Fl. But is hard to find out if they are reputable. Is that any tips to give how to look for? I saw a video on this system called RamAir. They say is better then using brushes. Is that a new system companies are using? Any input? Thank you sooo much!😃
Ok so how do I find a company like yours, in Las Vegas? I want the entire system serviced and cleaned, with that super high suction and whips like in your other video, and one that will give me upfront pricing about the entire service...
I guess this is contingent on climate. I called my A/C guy asking for referrals for duct cleaning because they don’t offer it and they don’t recommend cleaning your air ducts at all. I’m in Florida though.
Florida has a HUGE market for air duct cleaning! It’s so dusty and sandy, and due to high humidity levels year round your air ducts get extremely moldy and full of bacteria!
@@HYPERIAQ no sand here. I’m in central florida so nearest beach is an hour away. I did try looking for duct cleaning companies but they seem to only be along coastal cities. I had been looking at websites to see if they inform you of what equipment is used but they either don’t tell you or it’s a brush. Seems scammy to me. I couldn’t even get your company’s website to work to check it out. Maybe your URL has changed since the video.
Hey Mitch, thanks for the info. I am learning the HVAC cleaning procedure and working with a reputable company. How do I get licensed to do this especially with the UV install and furnace cleaning. Can you point me in the right direction. I live in the eastern PA area. Thanks again
How can you tell that’s mold with out testing and confirming that’s mold and if it’s mold you should probably have a mold remediation happen to make sure all mold was discarded correctly or at the very least make sure the duct cleaning tech is certified in mold and if you ever tell a customer they have mold with out being certified or testing that’s not very responsible of a company
@@HYPERIAQ yea I saw that in another video I’m also MRS,ASD,WRT,FSRT,AMRT, and finally NADCA certified and been in business 13 yrs we are licensed bonded and insured as well so yea I know a thing or two
And air filters just so you know FYI smart guy they don’t clean your air electrostatic filters do not regular filters that you buy at Lowe’s or Home Depot they don’t do shit they just catch the heavies but what about the small particles the harmful particles static air smart guy is the way to go how come you’re not selling people stuff that will actually help keep theirducts clean all you’re doing is ensuring that you stay in business by keeping their ducts dirty
I own A1 indoor air quality services.....this guy has no idea what is involved....at A1 indoor air quality services we charge for : Cost of equipment Employee wage Etc
Are you saying I have no idea what I’m talking about? I own one of the largest air duct cleaning companies in the country. We’re in 3 major cities. Just trying to clarify…
