A person commented this gem: "I'm motivated by spite honestly. I refuse to let some soulless algorithm outdo me as a flesh and blood being with a mind and soul. I believe human artists are always superior because of that, and I'm not willing to give up. AI will never be the next Beksinski or Goya, but people like us can be" I think it's a good mindset to have especially in these trying times. Spread the word, folks

That sounds all cool but who really thought the next Goya would be threatened by "AI" anytime soon? The threat is for the masses of commercial artists and not the handful of fineart superstar unicorns. The threat is also about the ramifications of being able to utilize big data for private profits within a capitalist system. On the one hand we need big data and algos to find patterns if we want to better understand climate modeling for example. On the other hand we seem to be pretty blindly walking into a neo-feudal world where a handful of private owners assert unheard of levels of power over the rest of humanity (and we haven't even started talking about biotech in the mainstream). People are distracted by flashy Stable Diffusion generations but those behind the development of these technologies don't aim to create tools for the masses. They want AGI if possible and if by that time we haven't changed the economic and social systems keeping humanity away from chaos it won't matter how many people, out of spite, try to become the next Goya.

As terrible as AI Art is right now, it's good to focus on what artists can bring to the table. The situation has brought me to reevaluate why I draw, and has pushed me to focus more on projects that push my limits and help me grow. I have heard it's doing the same for some others. Good video.

As someone who continues to commission artists and has studied art for over 20 years, I deeply resonate with the sentiment of this video. However, I think it underestimates thr pace at which the AI art generators and our interactions with them are evolving. These tools have gone from creating laughable, nightmarish constructs to pieces indistinguishable from that of a human artist and/or photographer in a relatively short period. Development is ongoing regarding how precisely we interact and interrogate these tools. I believe human created art will continue to have a space in the market. I think just like we have mass-produced clothes that can be bought cheaply, but also have handmade attire for significantly more. We will see mass generative art for very cheap, but human art will be valued for the high street market. (None of this to address Artist copyrights, just humanity's interaction with this emerging technology)

@@MrRossT1 In OP's defense, I've gone to art school and been tricked a bit too, especially if the prompter spends an extra half-hour cleaning up the "debris". I'm already nervous to have seen some AI pieces that can get all 5 fingers in.
@Sela2125
@Sela2125 Год назад
There are too many variables to consider, and one can easily get into a philosophical "what is art?" Sort of question. To keep it somewhat brief, there are already models capable of producing human and/or animal figures with the correct number of appendages. Even the ones that aren't great at such features will get it right if the person "rerolls" the prompt enough times. Also, we are talking about a rapidly evolving technology. The core of my earlier statement is that we cannot judge it or ascribe techniques to challenge it solely based on its current state since it is changing so rapidly and there are so many versions of it being developed. Could one tell when zoomed in that the brush strokes, the pencil lines, etc. don't quite line up with how such media is rendered by real-world instruments? Mostly, yes, but it would be nigh impossible to scrutinize every image one looks at with that level of detail. Also, most of the images generated with AI are relatively low resolution, 1 megapixel or so, I believe. That is mostly a limitation that stems from system resources available for the millions of queries reaching those servers at any given moment, not from the capabilities of the underlying AI software. Also, platforms like MidJourney already generate accurate fingers at first, but get it wrong during the upscaling process. What I interpret from the video is that in spite of the capabilities of AI software, there will continue to be a space for human artist and the thoughtfulness that comes from a human mind laying down one line after another. I believe that sentiment to be true. I further believe that there will continue to be a place in the market for human-made art, be it traditional or digital. However, I would like to clarify that the way AI image/video generators operate is evolving faster than most of us are used to. We have somewhat become used to technology giving us a new iPhone, for example, on a yearly basis. AI is changing on more like a weekly basis. This is a massively complex subject. One well worthy of different interpretations and lines of thought. I believe it to be something worth trying to understand as it will likely affect our lives in some fashion and it is unlikely we can truly put the genie back in the bottle.

You may be able to use this tech to your advantage for a short period of time but if you take a look at how fast this tech is evolving, you have to be very naive as content creator to not think that you are embracing your own death sentence (that's why creators like Samdoeasart, Greg Rutkowski, Karla Ortiz, etc hates AI art). The reality is that the days of content creation as we know it are going to go extinct. I used to think that digital artists could fight back AI generated content by taking advantage of our "human factor" (aspects that humans are good at and AI is not) but the reality is that AI doesn't need to be human, sentient, understand context or human feelings to create content that appeals to normal people. Humans are already playing with these AI tools giving away all the information that developers need to fine tune them to please people. In a few years, these AIs will be able to create high quality output (art, animations, photos, videos..) for the average public and you won't be able to fight back that huge tsunami of generated content. Even if you produce good content, you are going to get buried anyways by the amount of content generated per second. Social media algorithms won't be there to save you. If you think it's already hard to grow a fanbase and make a living as independent artist, wait a few years. It's going to be a nightmare. Every time you see an AI developer telling you that this is "just another tool" to empower existing artists, take into account that it's just a lie to calm you down so you don't make too much noise about it. These AIs have not been designed with professional artists in mind. Professional artists never have been part of the equation. You only have to see how they promote their AI products. AI end goal is to get so good that your service as professional artist won't be longer needed. It may bring "creative power" to the average person that creates as a hobby, but it's going to destroy multiple professional markets in the process (not just art). The industrial revolution changed everything, many jobs were destroyed but you still needed people to manipulate the machines. People were trained to use the machines instead. A big amount of human power was still required. However, this "conversion" won't happen with AI. AI doesn't require an army of artists to operate. In a few years, your 90 years old grandma will be able to outmatch in quality and quantity the output of 100 actual human artists in their entire lifetime using her smartphone. It sounds like a joke but it's not. AI is evolving at the speed of light. One week feels like a year. As side note, I've always loved tech and as a former 3D worker, the idea of play with new tools to generate ideas is something that I've always loved. I really tried to be optimistic about AI generated content but after follow the developers behind these projects, check how many open source models are in the public domain already and how fast the technology is evolving, it's impossible to not have a very pessimistic vision of what it's about to happen to the art market. Many artists are embracing AI like is just another tool, like digital drawing tools were in the past, or 3D. I understand them. They don't want to be the "boomer" of the group saying "new tech bad" because that usually doesn't age well. However this time the difference is crystal clear. AI is not here to empower professional artists, but to replace them. You won't have the chance to "adapt" to this new "tool" for too long. Once the AI is improved and polished, you won't be necessary anymore. If you are confident as an artist because you think these AI art generators are close to peak in quality then get ready for a big disappointment. To be honest, the only semi-realistic ray of hope I have right now is the creation of a legal framework that would allow professional artists and AI generated content to coexist in a fair way for both parties. However, even if that's possible, it will probably happen when it's too late.

I bought his course back when Black Friday deal was going on (though I'd normally avoid these since it's so costly) but seeing so many people praise this course and him in particular I decided to take it and so far, i'm in absolute awe of how much information is packed inside this course! It may be a bit hard reading the subtitles and listening as he speaks in Korean and can be quite fast but still incredibly worth it!

despite how complex or detailed ai art might become, I’m sure that art produced by humans will never die out. It’s a way for people to destress and have a creative outlet, and there are things even AI isn’t able to create, since it’s just based on what images are fed into it.
@clearlyanartistanimations6915
That's legit exactly what our brains are. That's what we do, except we have lots of goals, needs and desires associated with the struggle of staying alive with varying degrees of priority instead of one task. A.I. is constantly moving closer to replicate the human mind but without any imperfections of mortality, bias and error; Into a godlike being. Knowing how to do art will be useless very soon and that will slash the community in half due to lots of ego-related and external motivation factors. That skill will be useless and it's at the border of that. You'd be better off doing more productive things that give the same benefits but faster.

I'd love to dive into his course sometime to learn his process. As for AI, I'm confident the ability to innovate isn't something that can be taken from true artists. Theft issues aside, the programmers and AI users simply won't understand what it means to truly create something more than just a pretty image.

It sets such a dangerous, disturbing precedence I am astonished there are people who cannot see it. Art is among the very last things that humans could be replaced by, and yet there are people, people who care nothing for humanity, pushing for this very thing.

The key is to call out the blatant copyright violations and their shady methods of acquiring data as well as all the private and immoral content used to train their datasets. These AI image generators are in blatant breach of copyright law since using someone's IP without permission and then monetizing it is a breach of copyright even if it's to produce a derivative. You even have cases where painters and photographers sue other artists for taking heavy reference for their work without their consent and these AI models don't fit the criteria of fair use either since they outright breach the 4th term "The effect of the use upon the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work" by monetizing these AI models and making profit off of using people's copyrighted data and it still counts even though the AI produces a derivative. Even when working in a studio your reference images need to be approved before you get the go ahead to use them in order to avoid any legal issues which is why some artists just take their own references to avoid these issues or use public domain images. If artists by law need to abide by these laws then so should these companies responsible for these AI and I didn't even tackle the private data that isn't even art that they use without people's consent. Not to mention the fact this wouldn't fly in the music industry... most do not dare to publish any "open-source" song with Taylor Swift voice, but somehow happily use "new" Kim Jung Gi's art to train the AI and say this is to pay tribute to him thinking that it's ok, that's a huge double standard!

This argument is valid. I have to go sleep now, but there are some really good academic articles if you look for them analysing the different methods AI art uses. TL;DR, Most methods do not achieve creation of work that would be considered derivative enough to be considered a unique work. One thing I will tell you though is that this will be a thing of the past in possibly less than a year. AI learning is advancing rapidly. Eventually AI will be creating art that IS derivative enough. That is quite literally the problem every AI art developer is trying to solve.

I've gone back and forth on my feelings toward AI art, and the conclusion I've come to is, AI art will only replace the jobs that were being devalued already. Scam sites like fivver already devalued low-effort one-off commissions. More profitable art careers include indepth problem solving that AI can only be slightly useful for. And you might interject, "BUT AI WILL JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER." True, but AI advancements aren't all-encompassing. In the past few years, AI art has only gotten better at the things it already had the capacity to be good at: being an extremely fast photo manipulator that's often derivative. It's gotten better at being that, but it's still just that, nothing more.

Imagine a AI chatbot you can bounce ideas off? Like creative think tanks for a advertising firm but just 10000x better and faster. You might have a psychologist, engineer and all kinds of specialists rolled into one! Here are my two main thoughts on this topic: 1. AI isn't capable of genuine creativity. It can only copy what human artists have done. If you challenge yourself to think outside the box and come up with completely new styles, then you'll never have to worry about AI replacing you. 2. If you're a digital artist, incorporate AI into your toolset. This does not mean you should generate all your art with AI from now on. It means use AI as a tool to generate base images for further processing. This is how AI should be used. Rather than thinking of it as a computerized artist, think of it as just another tool - like Photoshop, like GIMP, like Illustrator, etc.

A tip from someone learning AI, use something like Adversarial Noise, basically add random noise or random line in the top layer, but make it almost invisible like using the alpha channel at value like one but keeping the RGB color. That way the AI still read the random contour but it's invisible the line... AI learn the image using RGB color channel to learn the contour and edges patterns. Different drawing idea is good but still, it's matter of time before someone merge ChatGPT and stable diffusion. No, it's not impossible, it's ridiculously easy. Engineers already prepared for this so most of them already covering the bases while artists caught off guard. As long your image pops up in the site like Google images, pixiv, Twitter, Facebook, or anything public, Even if it's just a 128x128 preview, IT'S ENOUGH FOR THE AI TO LEARN AND IT WILL GO INTO THE DATASET, hell Twitter even have a developer API available to scrape the site itself.

I've seen a lot of people taken everything in the internet as a real fact without fact checking it or experiencing it on the real life themself.
