Same. This is inadvertent white privilege. I grew up in a 'mixed' neighbourhood. Didn't know anything about racism until i saw the movie 'Roots'. And it shocked me. Before that none of my black friends had ever mentioned any of it to me. Then again, neither had my parents, my white friends, my school, my church, or the media i had access to, or was aware of. I had no idea the pervasiveness of systemic racism. I'm almost 60, and it stills shocks me.

I'm not totally sure why, but I give Herschel Walker kind of a pass. You can tell he's lost his sensibilities; he didn't know what he was saying most of the time, and neither did anyone else. He wasn't close to being qualified to run for senator; he'd have been there for manipulation, and we all know it.

Because Christian said his dad was diagnosed with DID (dissociative identity disorder). After Christian said that, it made sense why Herschel acted the way he did. However, I don't think having DID means that Herschel was tricked into supporting and joining the Republican Party, because I get the sense that Herschel has always been politically and socially conservative (as far as any black conservative would be). Claiming that Herschel isn't a black Republican because of his DID and mental health issues is like saying Kanye West isn't politically and socially conservative because of his bipolar disorder and mental health problems. Definitely agree that Herschel Walker was nowhere near qualified to run for senator and only got chosen because he was a big athletic black man who played football as an attempt to trick some white & black people into voting for him over Warnock. He definitely was manipulated into running as Warnock's opponent because I imagine that even the average black conservative would not dare to run against a black pastor (even if the pastor is progressive/liberal) due to how much power the black church has on black communities.

@@medtle1 Nope; I actually didn't know the name until you mentioned it and I looked it up. I knew nothing about Walker outside of football, including that he did mixed martial arts until I saw his name as a candidate for the senate. But having a mother with dementia that I took care of, I could easily see he was mentally impaired in some way... kind of like the orange menace is now.
