Well, I loved the video. Thanks. Now I might have enough courage to backslap my cal trimmer.

Careful with backslapping your mower, could hurt your hand in the process.

Great video . Love the sound of the back lapping. I use 200 grit sand paper on my blades before each mow and rinse off after each mow and use my leaf blower to dry it before putting the mower away. Helps maintain the sharpness between back lapping. Also use the Bedknife Buddy from Par West Turf to keep the bedknife sharp.

What’s your process with the sandpaper?

I just go over each blade with it before I mow. Gets off any rust or crud that didn't come off after the last use.

Thanks for this video. Nice work demonstrating this. Q: Looks like a circular rub mark on the far right when looking at front of mower were the reel has rubbed on the side. This normal wear or spacer was missing or something? Not ragging - just not familiar with this reel mower. Again - Thanks for this vid.

Sometimes a piece of mulch will get caught in the reel and eject out of the left side.

Need help. I underestimated the height of the concrete by the curb and SMACKED it well with the mower :( My Cal trimmer is now running out of balance. Will a back lapping solve this problem? or did i mess up the bearings? only running slightly out of balance. Any help would be appreciated.

Hard to say without seeing the damage

Good video. I did not know about the stand that elevates the front roller. I also clean and grease my chain since it’s off. I have a question. One side of my adjustable height screws is always much looser. Loose enough I can turn it using my fingers while the other side is stiffer. Does anyone else’s Cali trimmer do that or is it just mine? Because of this I’m constantly checking level.

I have the same issue....have you found a solution?
@comeoncents3288
@comeoncents3288 Год назад
@@BSmith-qt7ev no I just hand tight the screws a bit then roll my front throw backwards so the blades even the bottom blade to see if I hear any knocking.

I bought a Cal Trim this past summer, I love it but the mow height is a little odd, I can't adjust lower than the third hole with the strip roller, I'm not sure what height the third hole is but do you have any issues scalping? If I scalp on the third hole I usually have to cut on the fifth hole going forward..
@TurfCulture

I have no issues scalping, especially with a front roller. Are you using the HOC guide from the user manual? Sounds like you may be mowing too low?
@davidconners
@davidconners 2 года назад
@@TurfCulture I'm using the front roller as well, When I say scalp I meant scalp it down to the thatch layer to adjust the grass height or once the Bermuda starts to get thick. I think in most cases I just can't go past the third hole because the unit is literally sitting on the ground

@@davidconners typically, on the standard model, the lowest position is unavailable (the high cut model allows for it) so the 2nd lowest is the shortest cut. BUT, because you have the roller instead of the caster wheels, you are only able to access the 3rd lowest setting because the roller results in 1/8”-3/16” lower in all positions than what is listed. Your roller on setting 6 is basically the same as setting 7 with casters

And I just broke the little piece that holds the chain together. Can I buy that part or I need a whole new chain? What’s it even called?
@TurfCulture

@@InDatParish you should be able to find the chain link at a hardware store.
