For your PO-33 and Zoom H1, I can recommend volume 12 on the PO, and lo cut off, auto level off, WAV 48kHz/16bit and input level 17 on the H1. Hope that helps. #H1represent

Thank you so much! I've been wondering how to do this for the longest time, saw backups mentioned in the PO manual but never figured it out. In case anyone was wondering, backed up my PO-33 onto my Tascam DR-05 using a normal 3.5mm (stereo obviously) aux cable into the line in. I then whacked the recorded backup onto my laptop and played it through the same 3.5mm cable via audacity!

Dual quarter mono to 8 inch stereo cable was one of two things that worked for me (I tried different stuff for 4 months and was pretty sad about backups not working) The other thing is dual quarter to dual quarter directly into a ZOOM H2n.

@@RickyTinez Thanks for the interest man! I don't currently have anything on social media, but I will soon. After a hiatus of 15 years I'm resurrecting my old music/circuit bending hobby from the '90s with today's amazing noise toys. So many fantastic pieces of equipment were coming out at affordable prices, I couldn't NOT get back into it! Most all of my music was recorded on 4-track cassette, and I'm now in the process of transferring it to digital media (super tedious!) I'll be sure to leave you a link in a comment on one of your future vids once I get some headway.

If using Ableton make sure to turn off Warp button (if it is set to auto) in the audio track for your back up when sending back to the PO. I dont know how sensitive the PO is but one day I wasted literally 2 hours trying to load some patches on a Juno 60 lol

Dig your videos and recommend them to people (in person). You already know this, but naming the ableton tracks prior to recording names the tracks. You can probably name all the tracks (audio files) after the recording. Whoever figures out how that’s done wins a prize. I like to name things afterwards.. as I don’t know what it wants to be named until I hear it half the time. Bonus points for ableton sample chop exported to another folder without having to dork around with the workaround. Glad to hear you quit your square job to do this. Dig. Oh ps., if you’re a programmer you have to, some day, make an interesting music gadget. In the meantime.. keep up the solid efforts. Best, g

Mine errors on the restore halfway through. Levels look good on the record, didn't use an adaptor to the Focusrite, only issue I can think of is i used 48kb vs 44.1. After the error'd restore (@ 73% on the PO, but probably 50% of the timeline audio file) and i play around with the PO some of it is there but understandably lots isn't. To do the backup I used a stereo 1/8" -> 2x mono 1/4" to the 2i2. Levels looked good at about -8. 48000 / buffer 256 samples. Any additional tips on what might have messed this up? Thx for your thorough tutorial :)

You can also send the backup track back to the PO the same way that you recorded it into the computer with? Except the dual mono-cables would be in the left/right output on the AI and the 3,5 mm stereo would be in the input of the PO

I actually ordered a trrs aux cable and am able to plug my PO 33 into my phone and record my patterns via a voice recorder. As an aside, I recently read a couple comments here www.operator-1.com/index.php?p=/discussion/4163/po-33-ko-owners-questions-observations/ that suggest you're better off wiping factory sounds before backing up if your sample memory is full or close to it, otherwise the PO will attempt to restore the factory sounds too instead of just skipping over them and using the self-generated ones, giving you an error and basically rendering your backup obsolete unless you break off the lock tab or something.

Hey-o Ricky, thanks so much for all your tutorials and videos! I seem to have an issue with restoring a backup with my K.O. For some reason after the 3 (out of 4) minutes, my K.O. screen says "ERR" and it stops the restore, some samples are also gone. Newbie here too. I just got my PO and have been trying to connect it to my Macbook Pro, to use in Garageband. A part my newly acquired knowledge is the fact that there are (at least) two types of aux cables; one with two rings on it, and one with three. Apparently, headphones that have a built-in microphone have a 3-ring AUX whereas normal headphones have only two, so based on that fact one could assume that (at least) one 3-ring AUX cable is needed. However I just received my cable and my Macbook still doesn't recognize the PO as a possible input source, so I guess a receiver is needed for that

@dnldr4386

Yes, but the challenge with not using an external sound card is that audio sometimes sucks on computers. Also many laptops now have mono mic and stereo headphones input. That said you can use a stereo lead direct to a stereo input. We use Audacity with Beringer 18 input interface. That way we have dedicated out and in for our stereo mini jack devices.

Quick question.. I’m using a Teenage Engineering stereo cable 3.5mm from the output of KO! to a 1/4in adapter then plugging that into the input on my audio interface.. it’s insanely quiet though. I have it set to line instead of instrument but still crazy quiet.. think it’s bc of the adapter or should I just get a stereo cable with an XLR on one end and go into the mic input instead? It’s a M-Audio interface so not great but never had anything be this quiet before..

When you save a backup to something like Ableton, does it break the pocket operator export into different channels? Or is it all saved to just one channel in Ableton, and that's all you get. That's something I haven't been able to figure out, before buying my first PO. Looks like it saves it all to just one channel.

Thanks for the Vid Ricky! Couple of Questions.. So this essentially backs up the entire PO 33 right? its not selective? that will also restore your entire PO so everything is wiped and restored to the back up. meaning nothing is selective, its the whole boat, in and out.. and lastly, does this also work the same with the PO 12? or should I treat that as more of a on the fly Beats and loops and record the output to an audio file..

Every professional backup operation should be followed by a backup verification. Unfortunately, there is no way of verifying it without destroying the source (unless you have a spare). I wish they added such a feature for dry-running a restoration process. Probably this is where teenage engineers need to learn from adult engineers.

Enrique... top video.. again. The following question might be a bit offtopic, but i cant find no answers elsewhere: If i arrange a beat in the K.O. and it gets a bit more complex, there comes a point where (for example) the snare or hihat gets „lost“ in the mix. It just seems to be gone. If i move out a certain other sample it might get back. Is that just a thing that the POs cannot handle or is there something i‘m doin wrong... Enrique or anyone... ideas? Thanks!

That is actually normal. The K.O. can just play a few sounds in the same time. It will cut out the drum sounds if a few of samples from the harmonic slots are playing together.
