Couple of questions.... 1) I didn’t realize you could leave the glass tray in while convection baking, thats alright?? 2) can you do a segment on how to use the air fryer button?? I know that’s all the rage right now and I don’t have one in my home, so no idea on how to use that feature. Thanks!!
I believe you are supposed to leave the glass tray in as it rotates and ensures more uniform cooking. We have left in the glass tray on all of our Airstream Convection/Microwaves all of the time - with never any issues!
Hi Trixie, Kirk is right - the instructions say you have to leave that tray in there when using the convection feature, so the food turns during cooking. We are already talking about making onion rings using the air fry feature, so stay tuned...
We did not make more videos about this convection microwave because sadly, we could not get the air fryer and other features to work as described in the instruction manual. So we have never used anything but the oven feature.
It came with our Airstream. We tried to purchase additional ones from Contour (the manufacturer), but were never successful. You could try your dealer as a start.
First rule for convection in the Contoure microwave convection oven manual reads “REMOVE the turntable when preheating the oven…..” I noticed you didn’t do that. Did you skip that part or is it not necessary?
Hi Ginny - It's hard to know without having more details. But I have found that when you use real butter the cookies tend to flatten (in my oven at home too). I use half Crisco / half vegan butter, or all Crisco, for fluffier cookies. Hope this helps.
We use our convection oven in our Airstream all of the time. However, we keep the wire rack in the oven and find that air circulates more effectively if the pan is raised while cooking. I keep a log of our favorite recipes using Paprika 3 on my iPad and make notes of how long it takes to cook in our Airstream so I can remember from trip to trip. We use the oven to cook biscuits, breakfast casseroles, cookies, and other baked goods. We are still looking for a really good cobbler recipe for the Airstream convection oven - would love to see something like that from other subscribers. Keep the videos coming - they are great!
You are a convection oven whiz! Thank you for sharing your recipes and how smart to log them in an app. Hadn't thought of breakfast casseroles and will put that on our list. We're also going to try the idea of keeping the wire rack inside for better cooking.
For an easy cobbler recipe try this one: www.thepioneerwoman.com/food-cooking/recipes/a10191/blackberry-cobbler-recipe/. Use whatever fruit you’d like. Goes together quickly and is delicious! Sometimes I’ll measure out my ingredients at home, so I can ‘dump and bake’ so to speak. When my FIL was still alive, he and I could assemble this and have it in the oven within 7 minutes! I was his favorite. 😉
This is awesome! We have a 2023 International FBT and are planning our “maiden voyage.” Tollhouse cookies will definitely be part of our trip! Question: I would like to practice using my oven here at home before we go. What are the power requirements for running the oven? 110 from my house? 30amp? 50amp? Thank you!
You can plug either the 50amp or 30amp plug into an adapter to then plug into your home power supply. It will run the microwave. If you don't have those adapters they are easy to find a RV and other supply stores.
Great video!!!! Knew how to preheat my oven ok but couldn’t figure out how to set the cook time (even after reading instructions) so I resorted to preheating over and over during the cook time. 😠 Had no idea the answer was as simple as entering the cook time during the 5 minute magic window 😂
Yes, follow the same steps as if you were preheating for the first time. But for the second batch, you'll find that the preheat time is much faster because the oven is already hot. I'll clarify this in our blog post that explains the steps to using the oven. store.airstreamlife.com/blogs/airstream-life-store-blog/how-to-bake-cookies-in-the-convection-microwave
Thanks, DeeDee. Unfortunately, the instructions for those did not work as expected, so we could not shoot any more videos showing the features. If that changes, we'll do another video.
would have loved to have a convection microwave in the basecamp but being just standard microwave and no option for convection microwave, we removed the microwave.
We just bought a used 2021 Airstream with a convecton microwave and it did not have the metal pan you showed in this video; the previous owner must have kept it. Do you know where I can buy a replacement? I did not find any when I googled. Or can I just find a metal pan that fits the microwave and use that?
That metal pan was not included with all trailers that came with convection microwaves. Unfortunately we haven't been able to find any source for replacements.
I use mine all the time. Biggest issue is that I have to press convection and the preheat temp with the door open. Otherwise it says "Food" and I have to open the door. It's weird because it wants me to add food but it isn't preheated yet!
