I have a buggy and I often saw my poorly glued tires do have a heavy unbalance to it. But for this model I don't care. I have a thing for balanceing propellers. I think I try this on my new street model
@jbtricklerc
@jbtricklerc 2 года назад
Nordlicht you will likely be surprised by the difference it will create. Some people dont bother with tire balancing. Often if a tire is not too far off naturally its no big deal. But when it really off balance you really see the difference in how the car handles unbalanced vs balanced. Thank you for the comment and support.

How to make a plastic wheel uniform in shape? Before balancing the wheel and tyre weight distribution?
@jbtricklerc
@jbtricklerc 7 месяцев назад
@Swenser, I hope I understand the question correctly. But if the wheel is not already uniform in shape you will likely have a hard time. I have unfortunately seen a few that were not uniform both in shape and in the hex area due to manufacturing error. I just threw those out. Thankfully its only happened a couple of times. However, if it's out of shape circularly, you may be able to use a heat gun to reshape, but it may not be worth the struggle.

The amount of runout on the example seems a little excessive. I would be curious how much that would affect handling. I never really thought much about balancing tires when I raced. We usually ran foams as that was legal in the classes we used to run. Seems like rubber tires have the thing in the recent years. Great tutorials 👍👊😎
@jbtricklerc
@jbtricklerc 3 года назад
Jerald I greatly appreciate the comment and support. To be honest, the Traxxas slash class cars all have excessive play in areas one way or another. There's probably 3 degrees camber (plus and minus) in suspension movement just due to loose factory fitment of parts. Some of that will settle. Some won't. I run foams on my 21.5 and 17.5 dirt oval cars and love those as well.
@ellisb1451
@ellisb1451 2 года назад
@@jbtricklerc what do you mean by the Traxxas slash classes are excessive?
@jbtricklerc
@jbtricklerc 2 года назад
@@ellisb1451 I meant it as in the Traxxas slash cars in stock form all have excessive play in areas. I've talked about it in other videos as well. Especially in the camber adjustment areas. To be expected with these cars with stock parts (which is how most of our classes are ran)
@jbtricklerc
@jbtricklerc 2 года назад
@@ellisb1451 just to elaborate more in case it seemed I was dissing the Traxxas that is not the case. I have two dirt oval Traxxas cars and have just as much fun with them as I do my GFRP 21.5 car. The way I originally worded that comment was poorly worded.

@jbtricklerc

Hey Charles. Oh yeah I mount and cut new bodies often. The best advice I can give it marked them when they are clear. As in mark where your body's posts will be. Ream those out then mark where your tires will be. What kind of body and car do you have?

Hy. How did you fix the wheel on that rod?I mean, those silicone washers on both ends should not slide back when you push them toward the wheel, right?
@jbtricklerc
@jbtricklerc Год назад
Thats correct. Mine had a silicone "o-ring" that would slide and hold the black bushings in place and tight enough against the wheels so it wouldnt back off. plus the spring on the other side to help hold the tension. I appreciate the comment and hope you find this helpful.
@perichi101
@perichi101 Год назад
@@jbtricklerc mine is identical (diferent brand) and have two silicone o-rings..but they are sliding back when I push them against the springs. :/ I assemble all like on the manual that commes with it, but no chance they will stay in place. Must be doing something elementary wrong...
@jbtricklerc
@jbtricklerc Год назад
@@perichi101 Thats interesting. It is possible that they just simply sent the silicon o-rings that were bigger than they are supposed to be. In the mean time, I'd go get some o-rings from an auto parts store something that fits more snug, maybe used two or 3 to help keep it on. Another option would be a wire linkage with set screw. Like the Bolink/RJ Speed Legends Steering linkage, they are also used on RC airplanes. That would allow you to slide it on and tighten the set screw.
@perichi101
@perichi101 Год назад
@@jbtricklerc yes, o-rings fit perfectly on the rod but they are sliding with minimum effort. Ok, so I have to find a smaller size...thank you.

JB do you rebalance after couple of races .
@jbtricklerc
@jbtricklerc 3 года назад
Joe Louis great question. For me personally, sometimes yes sometimes no. Usually if I notice something doesn't look or feel right with the tire or I notice the balancing clay or a weight got knocked loose/off I will. I have occasionally checked on a set after a few or several races before just to see. I've personally never had anything go substantially off balance again on a tire and wheel that was still in good shape (as in not beat up and torn up). The times I have seen a big difference was due to some type of damage usually. But, keeping a check on it definitely wont hurt at all. Peace of mind is always a good thing.

what are the parts on the right side of this at 3:25 in the video, to the right of the two cones? Thanks!
@jbtricklerc
@jbtricklerc 2 года назад
Hey David, those are old shock pistons. The stock balance rod has the cones more off center, since these tires are wider than an airplane prop, I used them as spacers to get the wheel and tire a little more centered.
