I love that the 2000's are back. I was a kid/teen then, and I get so nostalgic seeing all these clothes from when I was younger come back into style. I didn't have my own money then, but now that I'm an adult with a job, I can buy whatever I want! I am also starting to learn how to sew. If you want authentic 2000's fashion, you can buy sewing patterns from the 2000's and then make your own outfits that are authentic. I'm making a low rise skirt right now.
I love that you pointed out that people should look for the original not the recreations as inspo. As someone who loves 2000’s pop culture it’s bittersweet to see it come back into fashion. I see the same recreations on Instagram that I had to unfollow a lot of people. They all wear the same mini shoulder bag from Shein and and a trucker hat and a tank top and think that’s all the 2000’s was
Some tiktok "influencers" (sigh) take everything that defined the 2000s n blend it in 1 look n make the thing look like a halloween costume. I differ "style" from "aesthetic" - aesthetic is Paris Hilton n Christina Aguilera in red carpets, style is my aunt going to the park in 2006. I try 2 copy the 2000s fashion watching old tv shows, looking @ old home photos n watching soap operas. One of my favorite inspirations is Malhação, 4 example

An '02 baby. Grew up loving the early 2000s style, music, everything😍😍🤩. Then ofc it started changing as I got older. Now 18, just graduated, and I really want to get into this style after having to go to a uniform school for 2 years🙄
Coyote ugly is the most fashionable early 00s movie I can think of. Super straight hair or weird curled hair give the whole vibe and anything Paul Frank🌈🌈🌈🌈. Also early 00s was closer to Dhelias, platform flip flops, dark denim and mid 00s was hugely on studded belts, mid wash jeans, coverse sneakers and Paris Hilton pink everything.

They don't flatter by big belly either, but they do a hell of a lot better than the insane uncomfortable ultra high waist crap that's everywhere today. My waist doesn't narrow up towards my breasts, so buttoning those is difficult. If I manage to, they are so suffocating and look horrible, like a very thick corset. How anybody can stand those things on them is beyond me. With low-waist, all I have to do is find ones that I can button, and wear a normal top that doesn't show midriff.

I was 1 in 2010 and my older sisters were 9-11 or 12 and my mom still has some of there old clothes from 2009 and one of my sisters were cleaning out her wardrobe and gave me her old clothes from the 2000s!!

Speaking as an old person (Xiennial) this all brought back memories of when I was a teen/20something. I still have some Baby Phat from back then. So worth it. But I'll quibble with you Y2K & early 2000s are slightly different eras. There's overlap but slight differences too. Y2K would span 1999-2001ish (they say 9/11 ended the era) then early 2000s was from 2001-2009. Just take my advice to those looking to get into the look don't do the over plucked brows. You'll thank me later.
I just thrifted a guess purse!! I think it’s was 3 dollars. It’s so cute, black, small + tall, with really long thin straps. And I have two baguette purses that were my mom’s in the 2000s.

About music inspiration, since my neigbors are a young couple, just a couple years older than me (18) they Always are noiser with their 2000s music, They re such hiphop enjoyers, its really not a problem, even my dads (teenagers-adults in the 2000s) sing along.

Could you buy a pair of mid rise/high rise jeans in a couple sizes larger if you want that low rise slouchy fit to your jeans? There aren’t any thrift shops near me but I love the look of a low rise, especially since I have a shorter torso and makes it look longer. Thanks for any feedback!

I take a lot of inspiration from eminem. Even as a fellow female, because I have seen 8 mile, so much the outfits have almost become, so apprant to me. Honestly would say go with how you feel most comfortable. If you have something similar in your wardrobe, and you wanna wear it go for it. As long as you don't try to steal looks, and say your inspiration I'm all for that. Dress however you feel most of the times people won't even care.

Can't believe this is coming back, ugh. It was bad enough the first time around. I've always considered the 70s and early 2000s had the ugliest fashions. Y2K, hideous bonbon colors, tshirts small enough for toddlers, jeans that will give anyone a muffin top, cheap bling, handbags that won't even fit a hairbrush and a book, velour tracksuits, and on and on. It's totally beyond me why we should want this back
