My favorite part of the video is when you said God has put it on your heart to share this info. I am a God fearing man who’s devoted to the Lord. Yesterday when I was on my third day (ever) of being an order selector, I had a silly thought to search RU-vid for “order selector tips.” I say silly because I didn’t expect to find much, but here you are. I’m sure it was the Holy Spirit who gave me that idea.
I work at the Walmart 6099 DC. And it was by no means easy for me to get good. I've been there about a year and I usually pull between 100-115%. How can I be more consistent?
Another thing. Each selector has their own way of selecting. The advice you can get from the best selectors, build it with your own technique at the same time. Listening and doing what one person say, will hold you back a little. Using cardboard slip sheets on your pallet will stabilize the cases and it takes just one second to place it on top on a even base vs wasting 2 or 3 minutes wrapping it throughout the trip. When I learned, my issues came from stacking. Now i easily walk a 120. A warehouse deals with so many customers. You might get the same trip twice a day or even more. When you select the same thing, you stack the same way and you get paid by touching a case one time. Through everything I just said, it's mental. This job is not physical at all. 80% mental, 20 % physical. I don't take breaks sometimes. If i'm having a good day, those 10-15 minutes will be added to my selecting time on that trip.
MrAUFANATIC Great advice. I’m 3 months in at Sysco and like most people I didn’t fully take the time to get my builds down solid. I just cared about hauling ass and making it work. Now I’m having to slow it down a bit to make sure that my build is while being expected to hit 100%. I linger in the 94-99% range at the end of the week. Hopefully it’ll click soon before I hit my 6 month mark for my probation period and start getting those incentives.
@@scotterickson9091 the pay is what attracted me first then when i started i liked the opportunity to get faster everyday because they keep of how fast and accurate you are...so i tried to get better each and everyday...not to mention the benefits as well.
Thank you! I’ve just accepted an order picker position and I’m completely green no experience whatsoever. I know it ain’t going to be easy so I appreciate all the tips and wisdom from someone who has mastered the picker position.
I just started hitting max incentive as a beer selector after 2 months and some of the best advice ive heard is from you. Specifically to be faster, dont move faster, think faster 🧠
Just started at wal mart distribution. Thanks for the tips man... it looks so easy to “just” stack boxes on a pallet but when they’re different sizes and all that and i catch myself over thinking it lol but I’m getting there and your videos I’ll watch them all will probably help me in someway and I appreciate it man
So many good points in here. Whatever you do take pride in it and have fun. You can always learn something from someone whether they are slower or faster than you. -Watch and observe… See what the faster guys than you are doing, how they are stacking certain cases. -Knowing the orders/customers will also help you out a lot too since you can prepare better for what cases you are going to get so that you will be more efficient. -TRY to only touch your case once, rearrange and set up your build better only when you are stuck behind people and not doing anything anyways. -Learn how to build before you run. Utilize the training/probation period wisely. Don’t go in there running like a headless chicken just because you want to automatically be one of the top performers, it’ll haunt you later when you are expected to hit 100% and you are getting the big boy non training orders. -Last but not least don’t be an as%hole, if you are kind to people they’ll more than likely return the favor. For example, stick to either one side and don’t ride the middle, allow people to pass if you have a lot of cases and they are trying to go through. Once you’ve established good relationships with your co workers it’ll make your day go by a lot smoother.
You've been told this your whole life but this is where it really matters. Bend at the legs not your back. Better your legs get a little sore amd tired then to continously bend at the back amd damage yourself in the long term. Always stay square with your products instead of twisting.
Shit im 270 5'9 and shit i was struggling at first but man hard works pays off ! I losing weight like crazy and building muscle! I love this orderfilling job! Its going to keep healthy no matter what ! God is good ;
iam 5,6 used to be 350lbs and now iam 270lbs It makes me happy to hear you say how much weight you've been losing just by working ...gets me excited thanks brother for the inspiration
thank you brother this is my 1st week my body is sore but i like the job. its all about hustle and strategy and always put God first before i start working.🙏🏻
Your videos are encouraging me to embrace my job position. I just got hired but have yet to start training and after my interview walk through at the warehouse I was intimidated but I want to be good. Your videos are a great insight and motivator. Thank you.
You’re right, listening is key. I’ve been a selector at frozen foods in Publix for two and a half months now and the best things I’ve picked up is to listen to others no matter what level you’re at. I’m actually really starting to enjoy selecting and I think it’s mostly because of the freedom and I the people I work with. Some of the top selectors in the freezer pulling over 180% blow my mind. Sometimes I tell myself it’s impossible, but it’s really not.
I’ve been at Ace doing full case order fill and it’s extremely fast paced and it’s my first time doing this kind of work. 4 days in on the floor and I’ve hit 94% 3 days in a row. Hoping within time and learning more tips and tricks it will get easier and I’ll start to pull higher. Staying patient with the headset is very key at least for me as it is very frustrating at times. Lots of heavy lifting and filling 20-25 orders a day currently.
Dee Jones really appreciate your advice and how how you go about selecting. I'm closing in on that 35 mark, almost 10yrs and I'm bout done. Well done with your videos man, really informative especially for newer selectors.
What’s good bro I just enter this field a week ago after 7 years of trucking had to get another career due to my license but I been watching your vids you a hell of a blueprint to follow much respect and blessings
I used to select in the freezer with Savealot , I used to talk to one of the guys that topped out over there , ask him his little tips and tricks. (This particular guy was one of the down to earth ones , most of the high seniority badass guys are stuck up.) He helped me alot while I selected , I ended up throwing 400s and still do whenever I have to select. Kind of the main fundamentals he said where never touch a box more than once , stay on the same side of the pallet as you're picking, use slip sheets when you have a flat surface , ECT. Also learning what boxes/product matches up helps , like one was two of this box is equal to this other.
6 years In Coldside Selector Set Many Records In My DC . Key things 1 . You have to want to do it or it’ll be the worst thing you ever done . 2 you never stop learning not just from your trainer . You can learn tricks even from the slowest or worst order selector .3 Have Patience Only Few Jump Out Running Out The Gate Seen It Take Some 1 year to finally get it down . In Reality To Me I Tell My New Hires All The Time You Will Select The Same Way Running High Numbers As You Did As A Wide Eye Selector Running Low Numbers . It Just Comes With Time Just One Day It Just Clicks In Your Head ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
Gatta say thank you for these videos man for real. I just had my first day at Associated grocers, I was so nervouse to get on the jack and of course im starting on a double while the rest of the guys were on a single so I looked like a complete noob lol! Anyway it seems like a fun job once you get the hang of it I cant wait to learn more.
I appreciate what you are doing bro. I’ll be starting next Monday at Sysco on nights so I’ll be binge watching a lot of your videos. I’m 33 years old but I still keep up with the young bucks. I just hope that I have enough juice in me left to keep my family afloat for years to come.
Thanks for the video brother, I just had my interview today at Sysco and everything went great I'm new to selecting always been active and feel like I can be successful but still pretty nervous. Your video helped alot man God bless you!
The trick to be being a great selector is once you place the box on the pallet don’t touch it any more, read check strings before even picking the boxes remember the check strings too that also helps I’m 21 I been selecting for 2 years now and I’m making 38 an hour at C&S my best advice is to come in 30 min early to set up and also get a jack that coast I can’t tell you how many new guys I seen drop pallets cause their jack had really good breaks.
Memorizing the shape of the product in the slot n the customer is they key to stacking. You wanna try to touch that product 1 time, from the slot to your pallet. The customer gonna order the same things, just in different amounts. Once you learn that, your building the pallet the same way every time. Key to making money is only touching that product 1 time so don't drop product on your pallet cause you gonna have to fix it. I'm 42 yrs old n at 185 to 220 n hour from knowing the customer, stacking a solid pallet n touching the product 1 time. Good luck n get that paper...
I am the only woman in my job at Martin Brower I am stuck in the refrig right now and it's really hard to get your numbers because they select by minutes not packages. It's hard to keep up my body is tired and the hours are long. I am glad I listened to this video because I have been feeling discouraged about my productivity lately but this has helped me feel better about where I'm at! We're supposed to pick at standard at a positive and not a negative and in a month I went from -48 to -13 so it's getting better but I know I can do better!
I'm a 56 year old self employed construction worker. I live in Ohio so the winters remind me of the wild life I've lived. Too many auto accidents , fights ect. I decided to take a job at a sportswear warehouse it's not what near the same money but I was amazed at the amount they pay. Today I finished the 2nd week on this job and considering I nearly quit on my 2nd day ...this is mentally challenging and nothing could have prepared me for the amount of walking involved but I'm happy I stuck it out . Not only did I get their location system down I'm 25- 50 over the quota however I'm still making mistakes ( usually it's a situation where I'm getting product that goes in A tote in C ... We have a cart with 6 tote's...3 on top , 3 on bottom.srry didn't mean to write a book but any info is helpful and I thank you for taking the time to make these helpfully videos
I just started order selecting on my own for the first time today and my biggest struggles are accuracy, speed, and having my bearings in the warehouse. Lifting and placing boxes is easy. You don’t want to just do it willy nilly and you need to know the layout of your warehouse. And definitely listen!
I appreciate that dog this my first walker riding pallet jack job I can’t lie I’m a lil nervous but hey I got bills so..... like I said umma take my time and listen and apply....straight up.... o appreciate it dog ya know a lil confidence ya kno bet
I'm at unfi right now almost been 2 years and yes I agree listening is key and teaching people be patient, I pick between 250 to 350 cases an hour depending how I'm feeling and percent I average 175% in the freezer and in the chill I do 155% and in dry were there's nothing but drive time and not much picking still do 130% but I teach people how to be the best they can be, I walk to when everybody sees me fast walking they move that's when I do 2000 plus cases a day
I remember selecting with you but not sure if it was Publix or sysco. But I know you was a top runner. I was a cooler/produce selector in both warehouses.
Stack columns not bases, line edges up using ur palms and legs, learn to coast your jack, get whatever zone/pallet the product is going to close as possible to the slot you’re picking at, always verify cases that don’t scan...just few tips
I work at the walmart DC. The pay is great. There's weekly incentive and quarterly incentive...you can make an extra $350 on top of your pay if you hustle. Mon-thurs....plenty of OT if you want it. I'm 45 and still out shine these young bucks. The money is there if you want it. The week need not apply. Why stop?
Donnie Nicholson I’m a freezer order filler at Walmart dc6858 I pretty good myself.. I average 130.. it is a taxing on the body.. this job is not for the weak minded. Strong mentality the money is there
Donnie Nicholson what state Walmart dc you work for bro I would like to hear some tips and the goods and bad about the job I apply online at Walmart dc in Georgia I would like to know what to spect?
Got in at a big time factory in Chicago. Not warehouse. My cousin is a supervisor there. The pay is 25$. Half the work as a warehouse. I will never go back. I worked at United cold storage for about 5 years. 10 hr days 5 days a week for about 3 years straight. Working in -10 or in 30degrees picking eggo waffles or Chobani yogurt. Terrible. We went thru about 600 people a year and I had about 30 different bosses on my shift that came and went.
agree.. listen and watch. understand what you can do and improve every day, just a little bit. I work in a high speed pace warehouse and i am not the fastest, probably around 85% but watching the the guys who do 115% is a thing of wonder. I literally can not figure out how they do it and i feel like i move just as fast as those guys. Equipment i believe has a lot to do with it and knowing your warehouse. I can gain a few minutes by skipping by isles but lose by wrapping my pallets. Chase assignments are nice. Any order under 170 i can kill it. when it gets to 220 i struggle with the time they give. PS i am 41
Just started at US foods I needed this videos im taking all I can get ! This is my first warehouse and they took a chance with me so again thanks for this
Update : this is hard stuff man I'm after about 6 weeks of selecting I found my self stuck between 65 - 70 . I noticed a big problem I do is re handle my cases man but to be truthfull I feel like having a good stack is very important, cause if it ain't sturdy , then it'll fall when I turn isles, resulting in me restacking anyways. Is handling cases really holding me back from getting a higher rate?
I work as a selector in dry and chill grocery at UNFI. Been here almost 5 months. Wrapping your boards when they get shaky works wonders. Having a 6ft. tall order thats 3,000-5,000 lbs wobbling over is a nightmare. Wrap it as you pick and you can still hit well above 100% while safely selecting. Plus, no breakages or things falling off. And once you finish, it's ready to go on the truck. Labeled and everything.
It’s an awesome job and yes that is smart because Is how you hit 100 and more percent . Always build the backboard first so that you can wrap as you go ., but get onto the reachlift tho ., more future in it meaning less likely to get taken over by automation
We use stickers n I take a minute to look at the stickers n rearrange the order I see fit to building the pallet the most efficient way. I've been doing it since paper pick tickets n it's second nature to me. I can look at the stickers for a couple minutes n knowing the customer, I'll already no what the pallet is going to look like before I start. I'm 42 n still run circles around guys half my age, but I don't run, lol.
Glad I found your channel bro I started at Food lion warehouse I’m trying it’s hard to hold a high procent lol last night a whole side of my dairy came off the pallet smh
Pallets will fall at times Brother!!! The key is to evolve!!! Learn what not to do and also what works for you! Develop a system. Ask yourself , “ what am I doing early in my day to have a high percentage?” Also, “ what am I doing different that causes my percentage to fall?” Once you recognize this, you will overcome percentage decreases!!!
Always try to keep your equipment your body and your mind and sink with each other. The equipment is an extension of you. I'm fast and I haven't made a mistake since 2013, Hopefully I can get out without within the next two years!! Lol, maybe don't give up it becomes easy.
honestly when you fisrt start, not spilling your pallets is the key to getting 100% if you rush and drop your shit then there was no point in rushing and you end up being slower. just find the pace you can be consistent at and try to work that up
The first thing I tell anyone I train as a selector is learn how to build your pallet and the speed will come. Nothing slows you down more than picking up cases falling over and restacking.
To the younger generation here's my tip of the day, do the exact same thing every day, get better at your personal. Everyone's is different. I consistently do the same thing everyday I'm pretty fast on my feet and I remain on one side of the aisle the entire time. I don't need to zigzagger drive like a maniac. I'm taller so I feel sometimes I kind of have the advantage because I can almost reach the other side of the aisle to grab a case, which is good. But not for the short guys, if you are a shorter guy you will definitely need to rely on your equipment and your footwork, so stay away from drysides!! Work in the cold and lol !! Learn to grab multiples
Im at fresh point sysco now it all cooler type cases soft n light but im use to dry or grocery cases i had to learn to stack st8th up and not so much about my base with is very important in dry area also focus on stay n very hydrated keep water around your jack also hand wrap your pallets it save u alot of time some company have machine that wrap for.u
Idk if it will help anyone , but currently whatever side I have to pick my item from that’s the side I put the item at on my pallet( save time from walking around the pallet) heavy items in the front light items at the back so the heavy will support the lighter items. Also put your pallet jack close to the item you got to pick so you want have to walk a distance to get to your pallet , the closer the pallet the quicker you can put it on there and move forward to the next pick.
I lost 60lbs doing this. It was definitely a good exercise. Just do it right never use your back picking up heavy items and you will be fine. Don’t forget to stretch before work and during/after break!!!
@@yodambomb4974 bra yess they bought in a new safety manager boy he switched it up a whole course smh 6 fatalities smh me and like 5 ppl passed lol it was sad
I've been with Gordon food service 4 years now and if you stay productive throughout your shift and stay accurate your gonna have success speed and pallet quality takes time
Hell yea, representing the Plant City DC here, bro. Took me forever to realize speed doesn't come first. I walk a 190 in our cooler. That's after 8 yrs of blood sweat and tears. I'm hoping the management at your DC isn't as inept as ours! Heh ever have 40 6-10's cubed at 0 cubes apiece?
Been an order selector at SuperValu and now UNFI going on 14 yrs. Definitely stretch and bend you knees when you picking cases. Trust me I know lol If you’re a beginner use cardboard to help tie in the pallets so it won’t fall. When you’re a veteran that’s been there you pretty much got your own method in how to do things. This job is more mental than physical. Just your body will be sore but if you don’t get your mind right you’re gonna hate it
I'm 3 years into being an order selector. I believe I'm a top 5 selector on the produce side. I build immaculate pallets. Fast paced warehouse stop n shop Distribution center local 25 teamsters
I work for Walmart DC as a case slot order filler, we need to be hitting any where between 455 to 529 cases per hour depending on the module we are in all this is done in a 10 hour shift very demanding job best advice I can give is just try to keep a steady Pace all day stay hydrated and eat good things that will give you good energy through out the day
Been on at a fast paced warehouse for 3 1/2 weeks and no matter how hard I feel I go im not hitting percentage. Im a beast, but feel I'm running short. Good advice tho man.
I am 29 years old. I am a military veteran, and I have done multiple jobs, including 10 years of sales. I'm all for the fast paced environment. I start at Sysco tomorrow. My question for a veteran of the business like you is; would this be a good spot to stay at long term, or could I potentially make more money if I transfered to sales later on? I'm asking for future reference. I want to do what's best for myself and my family in the long run. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also I would say for a americold cold wearhouse they give me one pallet job will a 3 pallet job help the percentage I am fairly new to order selector position
Stacking is your most powerful tool in order selecting. Learn to stack and master your warehouse before you start running high percentages. Knowing how to stack like a pro makes the job easier. You can WALK a 100% at any warehouse by working smart and stacking smart. Plus cardboard is your best friend. - I'm at the end of my career to man. I made really good money since I was 18 order selecting. Now I'm in my mid 20's and walking away from it for good, no matter what!, in about 6 months.
I’m a order selector for heb, which is also a face pace environment and I’m learning the ropes but I’m always open to info to increase my efficiency. Any tips out there?
I just turned 36 and only place I got hired was to be a selector for a food distributer So far I like it first time I gotta get use to my sleeping schedule now since this is the graveyard shift I picked it up pretty fast only issue I have is how to place the boxes in certain zones is required without turning it into a shit show any tips and also how to weight split meats that has no labels
I just started at Sysco 2 months ago im at 95% and honestly I fell like thats the fastest I can go right now. I keep second guessing my stacking .. any tips would be greatly appreciated..
Just started at Pepsi distribution in Tyler Texas. Picked one day and almost had a meltdown. Crazy fast paced environment. Everyone says you won’t be able to go fast at first and that makes sense, I just hope I can get good and get my cases per hour high and outrun everyone else.
@@smallpp688 that's awesome to hear. My first day is in two days. I'm nervous as hell. I'm very competitive and have become the best at what I do at every job but I'm notorious for getting off to a slow start. I'm a slow learner. But once I get my foundation I'm great. Hope I can become great here fast. Whats your average paycheck look like?
Just started as an Order Picker at Costco Business. Just got back from my third day. Manual jack with 20+ waters and copy paper is.. not fun lol. My body is so sore holy sht. Even baseball conditioning in highschool and college never got me this sore. I hope I can stay with it and hope my body adjusts. Love your videos bro
Just started at americold I feel I'm moving a fair pace and performance headset said 50 under other than being a lil more efficient what are.tips and are you familiar with float time or downtime I feel my pace is fair
Learn ur product, work on ur stacking, don’t let ppl get it in ur head that u need to be running 24/7, learning ur product and perfecting ur stacking is more important then anything ,
Yea. The main question is, what was your reason for leaving Publix. And yes. The listening has helped me a lot. Multiple people have given me differing opinions on how to be better. And I understood why they suggested what they did. But at the end took the best of the best.
Came across this video. If you don't mind me asking, What is your career now? Did you stay in the industry and moved on from selecting doing other jobs? Or do you have a completely different career now? I ask because I've been in this industry going on 16 years. I was a selector for many years but I do other jobs now. I want to to do something else but I can't think of anything solid to get into that is going to offer me what I get now. Meaning my Annual salary, Benefits etc. I am a family of 5 so I can't quit and do just anything.
I got a flight booked in the morning for a job in Portland. I NEVER DID WORK AS A ORDER SELECTOR THO. just loading and pallet building. You got any tips?
I worked with guys who would during there rr break call out in their headset a few orders ahead them when they come out hurry up and remember what it was grab it to keep there % up.
Give me a few tips on the head set currently my biggest obstacleI'm currently just starting at julius silvert little experience they def playing the numbers game they'll fire me if I don't be more productive in 2 weeks or I'll have to switch to Porter and take a pay cut help me any tips on head set pallet building being safe of a double jack would really help thanx brotha awaiting any info you have Yah bless 👏🏿💯
I work at Kroger Distribution Center and I must say I do not like it they have Bids open for other positions but I just feel I wouldn’t want to order select for years I just can’t stack and grasp the fact I’m not a fast pace person and I know it has to be fast so you can knock the orders out they pay good buy I just wouldn’t get past a certain number for percentage wise I’m going to give it to next week cause I am on my brink and I do want to move on from order selection
