Man, if Chris Evans ever watched this video he would feel so depressed! All for just being his happy, easy-going self.

Downie's charisma comes from his compassion to his friends.Being a good person makes you charismatic not a literal breakdown of what you have inside you already.

Saying Evans is looking for "approval" from Downey when he answer the host's question is really an overstatement. Evans is probably looking for support from Downey as he is an introvert type of person. My guess is that Evans and Downey probably has very decent relationship and that's why Evans trust him.

"Like he just saved the whole world." He has saved the world many times, duh!. He is the Iron Man.

The power is his humor. When you are known as the "funny guy" in the group people always give you the spotlight. I'm naturally very witty and whenever I'm around friends or co-workers I'm expected to entertain them. But behind closed doors I'm kind of dark & complex. I would expect Downy is the same.

Great video. It was like a roast of Captain America not an analysis of Tony Stark.

Robert Downey Jr has great energy.

Interesting video. You recognize, you can't take your eyes off him, but the details are intriguing. I've seen Robert at the Civil War premiere in Germany. He has that magic charisma that you can't learn. He wrote hundreds of autographs, but the very second he looked at you, you had the feeling he was there just for you.

Actually, you become more charismatic when you stop caring what other people think. It sounds counterintuitive, but it's true. Be your true authentic self. Be true to yourself and your emotions. If you don't find someone's joke funny, don't laugh, just don't be rude. In this instance, if you laugh half heartedly, people will see through it. They will know you didn't find the joke funny and still laughed, because you're insecure and worried about what other people would've though had you not laughed. Being authentic is attractive, not to mention sexy.

My dude.... 90% of what you're talking about comes from physical POSITION. Chris Evans simply has enough manners to not be a dick (by not turning his back to Downey).

The word ppl need to remember with charisma is CHARM. And charm, quite simply, is the ability to make others feel good. The first thing that you notice Downey does when he walks onto the set is he locks eyes with the audience and smiles. A genuine smile is the simplest compliment you can give someone. And his sitting posture implies that he is giving both Chris Evans and Jimmy Kimmel has full attention EVEN THOUGH he is seated at the furthest chair --- giving the impression that he is both GENEROUS and FRIENDLY (as his entire body is turned to face both Evans and Kimmel).

This doesn't seem right dude. I don't thumb down very many videos because I recognize the effort that people put in to make videos on RU-vid, but I'm going to have to make an exception. RDJ is one of my favorite actors, but you're analyzing two different personalities and shaming one for not being like the other. And someone like me, who has social anxiety, relates more to Chris Evans than RDJ in this video, although RDJ seems like a good friend to have.

you know what is not charismatic? putting other people down while raising someone else up. To me what is at play here is a younger actor admiring a older actor. RDJ is an amazing person and someone all the marvel set looks up too. another thing at play here is inteovert vs ekstrovert. Chris is an introvert but that does not mean he has no charisma. pick another video with Sebastian, Mackie, Hemsworth and your analyses will not hold. you can't tell who someone is from one video. we change all the time given the situation we are in.

Chris Evans is also very charismatic. Look at his body language and eye contact when he is talking and everything, he just has a different kind of charisma, he is cool but kind, whereas Robert is cool and sarcastic, non-empathic ... Both have charisma, just not the same.

In about 20 seconds Jr took control of the below mentioned moments with body language, posture and timing. I did this analysis for me mostly but though I'd share my observations. I love how these mechanics work. I don't blame Evans for being shy and can fully relate. From entrance to couch we already have 9 situations that Downey Jr. made better use of: 0:38 Evans body tilted back, standing on right leg, sideways. He looks unsure if he wants to enter the room. Jr. is slanted forward, his look is fixed on the audience, mentally he entered the room already. 0:39 Evans looks for help, checks what D. jr does. Jr. does not look back but is fully focused on the audience 0:40 D. Jr is the first to greet the audience. The gesture is fully committed. Evans does a shy "half greeting " his hand stays at the lower chest level. 0:41 Evans is quick to shake hands with Kimmel, finally a way to give the host his attention. During handshake he is bend over, unstable stance on front foot, a shy posture. 0:42 Downey takes his time, puts some swagger in his steps, grabs Kimmels hand, steps in straight up and takes control of the handshake. Jimmy upper Body is bend forward at 0:43 accepting Downey as alpha male 0:46 D. Jr wants to spend more time with the audience and gestures Evans to proceed to the couch who is happy to oblige. 0:47 Evans looks towards the couch, Jr. sends kisses to the audience. 0:49 Evans proceeds to sit down, Jr. open arms gesture is an invitation to the audience to return admiration 0:54 Evans falls into the couch like a wet sack, finally he can relax. His hands slap onto his legs, a gesture that assures him, he is now sitting, he has arrived in his save space. Downey keeps his body tension and slowly sits down with an upright body posture. He does not sink into the couch and keeps his energy high. 0:56 a shy half nod to the audience by a Evans and another fully realised wave to the audience by Jr. Interview starts, all eyes on RDJ...

I think Robert Downey Jr. is a very charismatic man, but I think completely stealing a conversation is rude and wouldn't do it on principle. Especially not to a close friend of mine. I think being okay with sharing a conversation is very charismatic as well. :)

Your analysation skills are close to being non existant. You're completely misreading Chris Evans' interactions with RDJ and praising RDJ in a simply wrong way. Take the "dress code" joke for an example. Chris Evans makes the initial joke to break the ice, this is a show of HIS charisma, RDJ simply follows up on the joke by making a funny remark. Why is he looking at RDJ when he makes the joke? Because he was talking about calling HIM, so it makes sense for him to look at the person he's talking about. Heck, where do you even get the idea that he's asking for his approval? The beaty in RDJ's character lies in that he knows how to make everyone feel at ease by making silly remarks, not by emitting a charismatic aura like you're apperantly thinking. But then again, these things are mostly scripted anyways, so chances are that he simply looked at RDJ because he knew that he was gonna follow up. You just need to realise that Chris Evans is just more of a straight-forward guy, while RDJ is more of an entertainer. By the way, another thing you missed, intentionally to bring more praise to RDJ or unintentionally by mistake, Chris Evans often answers the question before RDJ does, this doesn't match up with your idea of him recognising RDJ as "the star" because then he'd just shut up and fill in the holes that RDJ left in his answer. Again, this is a sign that this is probably scripted, as Chris Evans won't make many funny remarks, so he'll give a straight answer first, while RDJ can play on his answer while joking first. Has nothing to do with charisma, just who the better entertainer is. Subjective youtube video's are fine, but it'd be appreciated if you'd drop the scientific mask and just say it's your opinion.

Charisma on Demand is a dope channel about this kind of stuff, more and better analysis...he talks about the different charisma strategies, and Chris Evans is VERY charismatic, but he does it in a different way. RDJ has “im better than you all” rockstar charisma that makes others insecure but Chris Evans’ nice guy charisma makes everyone feel good but he gets interrupted a lot...downside to both...that channel does a good job

I don't think Evans is insecure at all. He just has a different temperament. Namely, he is happiest when he is complimenting and uplifting others, and not worrying so much about himself. On the other hand, Downey enjoys having the spotlight on him, but isn't arrogant to the point where it's annoying. Neither is better than the other in their social temperament. Just different.

Really great analysis and I agree with alot of what you had to say. I think Chris Evans was 1. just being respectful to RDJ by always acknowledging his presence, 2. RDJ is older than him, there is another form of respect 3. RDJ is by far more well-known and accomplished in their field again, respect. 4. I do agree, he may have been short of something clever to say and he knows RDJ can always pick up the ball. 5. There was probably some personal admiration as well.

Robert DJ went through substance abuse and overcame it like a beast. He gained his willpower and confidence and came back to hollywood to play big roles. His charisma is very real, he didnt learn it off a youtube video, thats what he realised through his EXPERIENCE of life. I suggest everyone find theiur natural charisma and confidence through experience instead of trying to mimic someone elses.

that's exactly the point! Downey enjoys himself. He is confident and narcissistic in a funny way. He knows that he's a great actor. He doesnt understate his skills as an actor. Other actors do that, but rdj doesn't. Thats why i love him, he knows that he's​ great and skilled and he enjoys his fame. If you are a bad actor that's a negative attitude but when you're good like downey you can do that. Other Actors arent that "brave" to say: yeah, im really good in this!

The way he cracks a good joke is by having a keen awareness of himself. First off though, when he walks out with Chris Evans he knows he is shorter than him --- but he stands straight up with his shoulders back. By doing so, he commands instant attention. Back to the jokes now, he knows that he doesn't match the physicality of the much younger Chris Evans so he makes a play on how pampered he is (and needs to be -- beyond just what his movie role necessitates). For Downey, this took almost a lifetime of experience to learn about himself and how best to be self-effacing and still come off as being confident and alpha. But for the rest of us, it doesn't necessarily need to take a lifetime.

If you want to be charismatic, be honest that's all.

I think you were pretty spot-on about everything except for the end when you commented that Evans looks at Robert like "what do you have now mr. Popular?". The look Evans gave him was a " did you really have your furniture shipped to Atlanta" look. What people in such videos forget to say is it all has to do with a public face. Yes, the public face, or YOU that interacts with people. To become better socially, you just have to get THE BASICS like smiling, eye contact, gestures, walk, hand shake.
