In this video I show you how I line up my cheek line with a razor. I've tried regular razors and clippers, which all left me frustrated. This is the easiest and most effective technique that works for me.

Finally a helpful video that taught me how to use a straight razor to shape my own beard!

I just went back to using a straight razor rather than trimmers. This tutorial helps a lot because I was struggling on doing my weak side but will try these tips. Nothing like that clean look for the cheek line and top of mustache for me.

I just got a straight razor for the same reason. With traditional razors you can't see the blade, so you're basically guessing where to stop, and that usually leads to going too low. Anybody with a beard should use a straight razor if they want good lines.

I am over 2 months into my Yeard's Journey and so far I appear to be blessed with a natural beard line along my jaws and my neck line. I'll wait for another 2 months and see how it goes. I don't want to shave any hair if I don't need to. For now, only those hairs that tickle my nose will be cut.

Great video as usual Randy....I have a similar cheek growth pattern and recently started using a straight razor to line up as well. Excellent advice and instructions. One more tip is to use an eyebrow pencil to help guide you when you start off growing out your cheek line. Just lightly draw in where you want your line to be and slowly and carefully shave above that line. As the cheek growth gets longer and heavier, you can see the cheek line more easily and need not use drawn in guide lines again.

That's a GREAT tip! It's funny you say that, when I first started doing my cheek line I would have my wife draw it on my cheek the exact same way and I would just follow the line. Awesome advice. Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching.

Dry shaving is perfectly fine when it's only that small portions getting shaved, and if you're not shaving every day (I only shave twice a week). I prefer lathering up a good shaving soap with a badger brush, though, simply because I like the process of it. It also makes the beard smell great afterwards. Yes, the soap does somewhat conceal where the old lines are, but you can still make them out. Shaving gel would certainly be easier, but I like the old soap and brush.

Thanks for the vid and advice. Im using mines for the second time, I always have used a t line but it wasn't as precise as I want it. The reason im looking up tutorials is that I keep cutting myself lol. I'm talking about 7 cuts a shave, I wanna lower that to about 2. One good thing about the razor, even though I cut my face up, it heals within a hour so I guess that is ok lol. I will try the gel you suggested. Anything can help.

Just got my first straight razor ever and im so excited to get those clear lines going! Ive come across a problem though, i find it hard to apply just the exact amount of pressure needed to get it going :/ I did manage to cut myself a few times, oh well oh well. Any advice on how to apply the exact amount of pressure needed to get a nice smooth line without actually cutting yourself?
@woogdesigns
@woogdesigns 5 лет назад
Nice! It definitely takes a little practice. Try doing it on your hand to get the right angle and pressure. My biggest issue was I was afraid to cut myself lol. You kind just have to let go and use quick short strokes with a low angle. Using the front edge rather than the whole blade seems to help too. Just take your time, I still knick myself from time to time when I’m in a hurry. Also make sure the blade is sharp! Hope that helps!

Hey Randy.....I'm going to purchase a balm and oil for my birthday.....I've only used the original.....my question.....what is your favorite scent? I've read the description on all of your scents.......do you have a suggestion?
@woogdesigns
@woogdesigns 7 лет назад
bearded man it really depends what type of scent you normally like. I tend to gravitate more towards the more masculine scents like Smuggler's Blend, Shrunken Heard and Rip Van Winkle. The Yesod Williams is one of our top sellers as well.

Sup brother. My sideburns get pretty thick but I want the style you have. Anything I can do to get those sideburns hair to fall down? Thanks brotha.
@woogdesigns
@woogdesigns 6 лет назад
Hey man! Usually length will help the side burns lay down more as it gets longer. Although, I do go to my barber every 2-3 months for a very slight trim. If your beard is really think you could possibly have it "faded" on the sides to achieve the look you desire. I would try some beard balm and let it get some length first thought! Thanks so much for watching and great question.

Have you ever tried letting your wife line up your cheek line? it could be a little easier, because it looked like your hand could get in the way when you went to the other cheek
@woogdesigns
@woogdesigns 6 лет назад
Yeah, she's done it a few times and does help me if I'm really trying to get it perfect for an occasion or if I'm just trying to get it back exactly where it does. It was definitely awkward at that angle trying to use the mirror where it was and still be on camera LOL. Definitely helps to have that extra set of hands and eyes if the wife is willing!

Bad technique will NOT come out professional
@woogdesigns
@woogdesigns 6 лет назад
That’s the case with anything. There’s not much technique to this. You’re removing hair from your face with a razor. Don’t cut yourself and do your best to make clean, even lines. If it looks good, it looks good. Don’t over complicate it.

Jarrod Kackley I would just leave it and let it grow back, usually the more you try to fix it the more damage you do. I let it grow back in and then get it back where I like it.
