Coach rus we are struggling and need you to upload more, currently we are 0-16 and are looking to finish at least 15-27 in our Rec league. We need some help with the 5-4 offense and get. A correct full court press. Thanks coach rus we love you!
Hi Dean! Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I really appreciate your kind words in support of my channel. I just uploaded a zone press (video #25). Hopefully you and your team could try that. Enjoy the game and have fun! Let me know if you try the Diamond press. Blessings to you.
If it’s an extended zone, like a zone press that traps once you’ve crossed half court, then I would use the zone press break. The defense has to move towards your basket if you have more players down there. If the defense is not pressing but looking to trap out of their 1-3-1 or 1-2-2 extended zone, there’s too many scenarios and variables to answer in a comment. Trapping near half court for both defenses leaves the middle and around the basket exposed. I would generally look to expose the defense with strong post play. Especially against a 1-3-1 as you’ll typically find a faster but smaller defender playing the position near the baseline. I hope that helps.
Will try it on Tuesday at practice coach... thanks.. let you know what happens... also coach.. what do you recommend for a 5 man team as far as offense and defense so they don't get too tired..8th grade boys...
Wow, playing with 5 is pretty tough. Honestly, my first reaction is better conditioning. That may not help you in the moment though. If it were me, I would have them expend their efforts on defense and take a more relaxed approach to offense. If you score 60 points in a game you might win; if the other team scores 0, you'll never lose. Best wishes coach. Let me know how the press break works for you and thanks for your comment.
Going to need to work...I only had 5 boys (8th grade), hardly any kids play basketball, mostly Latin and soccer players.. it was tough coach... these are only scrimmages, play 3 then because there's only 4 middle schools and only one has an indoor gym... we don't have a long season... but will continue to use this as a foundation..
idk abt this. first of all this play takes a VERY long time to develop if ur first 2 reads arent open. then if ur opponents are good defenders theres no guarantee that ur 1 cutting into the middle of the court will be open or have enough space to get the ball. i could see alot of turnovers happening there. also ur asking the 2 in some scenarios to beat his man to the middle with his left hand. i feel like this play should incorporate maybe some type of give and go with the inbounder. because usually the first instinct of the person defending the inbounder will be to turn his head and look where the inbound pass went. this allows whoever is inbounding to scream open(also to the middle of the court) there he can get a lead pass to either a forward or a guard
Thanks for the comment Daniel. No play is perfect. Most of the plays on my channel are for younger teams and coaches. Most coaches at the high school JV level and above aren't searching on RU-vid for basketball strategies.
If the screens are executed perfectly, it works. Did this with my 12u team and they got it down. Just gotta emphasize ball protection and the screening
Is the guards sealing after first screen and flashing open on their respective sides an option instead of a second screen? Just thinking about 5 sec count.
When you inherit a varsity program with zero dribblers, you start looking for any press break possible when every team in the league goes m2m full court press. Nice break for teams with guys, but when you have a team of girls, they cannot make that pass.
Switching fast and catching up to the moving forwards is easier said than done. The guard-screen, done properly, should give the forwards a few step advantage to get behind for a hard deep lob pass. More likely the defense will adjust by having their forwards will pre-swap and sag back further, which opens up the inlet pass to small / fast guards on the wing, which is usually easy to break afterwards.
That's what the dip inside before going around is for. It's very diifficult to stay tight on 4 players while switching cause most are vulnerable to direction changes during the switch. This play is very effective. Switching won't stop the inbound or advancement here if you have decently athletic players who can pass well.
Thank you for your input. You’re the first one to mention that. If I start to see more comments/suggestions regarding taking away the music I’ll consider it.
bro , if you cant concentrate because of a little bit of music then you better not play sports unless theres no fans around. Maybe take up chess instead .
If you can't concentrate on the concepts over the music you shouldn't coach basketball. You have to stay concentrated as a coach with audience, music, announcers and 1000 other distractions.
