Before The Legend of Zelda, EverQuest, and World of Warcraft came one of the true classics of video gaming: Adventure for the Atari 2600 VCS! Written by Warren Robinett in only 4 kilobytes of memory, you are on a search for the Enchanted Chalice avoiding duck-like dragons and a very annoying bat. This game is also credited as the origin on the video game Easter Egg and was heavily featured in the book and movie Ready Player One. Now I'll show you how to beat one of the few Atari 2600 games that has an ending: Adventure!

This is a total classic. I agree with you, this game should be on everybody's top 10 list for 2600. My dad was obsessed with this one, he would play for hours. Thanks for this cool look at a wonderful game!

Always love seeing gameplay from this iconic game. When I wanted a bigger challenge I would collect every item in the gold castle, including dragon carcasses. The flickering would be so bad with all that stuff in one room.

The day I beat level 2 was one of my proudest video game achievements! I’m 42 and I just beat it a few years ago even though I grew up with the game…maybe one day I’ll beat level 3!

This one hits a nostalgia spot for me, I never had it, but my parents rented it multiple times, I still twitch in angst when see a dragon, the bridge was a miracle by the programming standpoint

I'm pretty sure I beat it, but the oddest thing about this game was I found a little dot that seemed to have no purpose. 45 years later I found out if i had carried it into a certain room, i would've found the first Easter egg in video game history.

"It looks like a duck! " Here, hit this. "Whoa! That is the most awesome dragon eva!" Atari-1980. The intellivision had a a D&D game that was basically a better version of this game.

You should make this game a little more challenging by having the dragons fear the sword. It's too easy when they're coming Right at you with the sword

"One of the most fun games of all time" lol. I dunno about that. Yes, for its time it was a breakthrough game, and is amazing in that context, but... unlike games of the NES era and later, games of this era don't quite hold up beyond the nostalgic factor. I'm not saying its bad, but just, that while the statement "one of the most fun games of all time" could have been true in a pre-1985 world... it quickly became less true with each passing year beyond that. Yet, all adventure games are in debt to this one, for sure.

As far as top 10 games go, Adventure does NOT belong there. But Berserk sure does. Gameplay wise, Adventure just wasn't very good. That said, I probably put 100+ hours in that game. Maybe much much more.

I actually wrote a real-time, AI enhanced Berzerk clone while attending CS grad school. The AI built into the original Atari Berzerk is rather impressive (except for the fact the robots would run into the walls and commit suicide). It took me a month to basically turn all the robots into Terminators.
