My girlfriend was listening in on the video and made the comment that the reason that Megan probably ran on all 4s despite it being slower is because the first instance of violent behavior she learned was from a dog which is on 4 legs constantly. So the pinnacle of aggression in her memory moves like that, and she mimics.

I really like how he went from genuinely explaining how to survive a scenario to just roasting a movie plot holes.

In terms of a killing robot, M3GAN is well-designed. In terms of a safe product for kids, it is horribly designed. Even if they had programmed it to prevent stuff like this from happening, what happens if the robot shorts and accidentally hugs a kid to death? The company will be sued to oblivion, that is what would happen. Gemma is responsible for all those murders and Cady should be taken away from her immediately.

What pisses me off the most is that 80% of horror movies can be avoided by being smart, unless the plot involves external factors like the zombies in The Last of Us, World War Z etc. I swear with each new horror movie the main characters become more and more stupid with their decision making

I think that if someone chained the dog and he didn't bite M3gan, she wouldn't have killed anyone. Because you can see that when the dog bites her, there are sparks, so obviously some wires got destroyed and so she went all crazy

If Gemma had taken two seconds to add the three basic rules of robotics as she was coding her super knowledgeable high, learning, high tech robot, none of this would have happened

I heard a lot of people mention/complain of the plot hole that if Gemma is so disconnected and not desirous of raising Cady, she should have just let her go to her grandparents. My reason, and I might be doing some of the movie's work here, is that there has to be a reason that Cady's parents didn't do that in the first place, that they didn't make the grandparents the primary custodians in the event of their demise. They're the paternal grandparents, Gemma has never met them before, and she even comes to the same conclusion.

With the intelligence level Gemma showed throughout the movie no wonder M3gan was extremely flawed.

She gave Megan the orders protect my niece from any emotional and physical harm that should been thought out a lot better.

When I watched the movie for the first time, I was just shocked how well embezzling money for months went for Gemma.

The machine is the same, but its host child is able to psychologically bond with it due to the changing appearance. And the best part is that each upgrade looks more human, kind of like the progression of fidelity in old smart phones vs. new ones. You could even do trade-in deals where you can get the upgrade at a reduced price, with maybe an upgrade for pre-teens/teens, one for young adults, and maybe one fully adult upgrade if the kid just loves their M3GAN THAT freaking much and simply refuses to part with it. With anything else, you just transfer the existing data to a new memory core that has faster processing speeds and storage, just like we do with phones.

Amazing to see that 30years after Asimov's death, there are still roboticists ignoring the 3 laws of programming a robot... Those laws aren't perfect (he wrote stories pointing out the limits of some interactions) but at least they would avoid your robot killing a child because he played a prank on another one.

The funny part about this movie is it's basically a metaphor for how we put tablets in little kids hands The Substitute parenting

I want the sequel to be about Gemma going to prison for manslaughter and she has to secretly program a robot to prison break her outta there.

My favorite thing about this movie is that the neighbor with the dog thinks Megan is a real little girl. So in her mind she saw her dog violently attack a little girl and she absolutely does not care. She thinks her dog grabbed a little girl by the skull and shook her all around and her only response is to be angry at the little girl. This lady really hates children.

Gemma: "Megan, you've killed people." M3gan: "Oh big woop."

Your advice to david about setting off fire alarms to draw attention. M3gan silenced the fire alarm after the explosion on Gemmas colleagues. The dude was in a sprint while M3gan walked and still she got him at the elevator. Slowing down to punch the fire alarm would have resulted in him being shish kababed before the chase began. As M3gan had power to hack other robots and systems. Katie would not have been able to use Bruse like that. In reality it would have put Megan down, patted her on the head and the two of them would have taken the internet by storm by initiating in another dance routine.

I was thinking that Gemma is just cold and heartless like what she created and only saw Cady as a way for her to get her invention off the ground but she also wants to look good in front of people and it’s not till she realizes that if people can track her invention back to the killings then her life would be over which is the only reason she try’s to stop it and she’s a control freak who also saw that Cady was caring more about what Megan said then Gemma basically I thought Gemma was selfish and greedy

Being a very advanced AI it would have learned from everything around her, and when Kathy became a teenager Megan would have built herself a nice teenage body, one equipped with fire arms. Then when Kathy became and adult she would have turned herself into an adult robot, or maybe one chiken droid walker (ED-209) like in Robo Cop.

Technically the robot was not truly beaten in the end. Before the credits run one of the automated home machines suddenly came back to life meaning since the robot can access the internet it can also upload itself onto anything it wants and it just has to wait until it can get a new body.

I can't believe they would spend the effort to build a robot that is that strong. The types of servos or hydraulic actuators required to make a robot that strong and fast would be ridiculously expensive for a prototype.

I mean if the building had sprinklers and such the robot would have been soaked and killed before the boss and assistant died? 21:32 if Gemma obeyed Megan and sit down and allowed her to get behinds her, Megan instead of caressing her hair, should have taken advantage of the opportunity to tie Gemma’s hand to the back of the chair, that would have been the perfect way to neutralize Gemma and preventing her from escaping or fighting back without needing to hurt her. And ending up so restrained and vulnerable would have been a game over for Gemma.

....I just realized something. Megan is essentially an evil Jill doll from the 80s. For context, Jill was a....slightly fully animatronic doll Playmates made to continue with their interactive toyline after the success of Cricket and Corky, the latter of which inspired Chucky and was even voiced by the same kid in the 'Good Guy' mode. Jill was innovative for it's time but INCREDIBLY expensive and hard to fully interact with for the intended audience since I believe she weighed *TWELVE POUNDS* and for the most part, all she could do outside of interact via the cassettes was sit while her head and arms were the only things that really moved. A lot of Megan's mannerisms when she first appears reminds me of Jill considering the biggest selling point of Jill was compared to the previous dolls and other talking dolls on the market of the time was she could actually 'interact' via voice commands and how they would respond to her tape options. You should really see demos of it because it's amazing that they had dolls like that on the market at the time but looking at how advanced things have gotten now....yeah, you can see where the Jill/Megan comparison comes from.

Seattle" I suspect Gemma didn't end up doing time for creating M3GAN, I'm pretty sure DARPA, The CIA, the NSA, the army, navy, airforce, USMC and lots of other alphabet agencies would be VERY interested in someone who could make a cute child's toy which can also control wifi-connected systems, run like an extra from Planet of the Apes and cheerfully gut a fully grown human like a stranded fish

So an issue with M3GAN being 'obsolete', you're forgetting that M3GAN is an AI. She could respond to Cady and interact back. That kind of thing gives a toy IMMENSE reuse value. Plus M3GAN is pretty much a live-in-friend. The reason the CEO guy green-lit the project is because there was a competitor making knock-offs at half the price, driving customers to other places. As for why she didn't pull the plug on M3GAN, if she did a 'recall', then she would be admitting that "this toy just won't work" and her boss will fire her for not providing a good product.
