Sign up to my online Workshop! payhip.com/b/caBzU Also, what do you think about Photography Ambassadors? Do you trust them? Which Brand would you love to represent someday? Let me know :)
@@gregorydaskos1229 Yes! It will start at 5PM CET and will end after 2,5 hours. First 1,5 hours will be a presentation and the last hour is going to be a Q&A where everyone can ask a question :)
Hi Samuel ! I wanted to join the workshop but when I click on sig up now, an error page comes up and I can't complete the process. What should I do ? ( I tried on different devices). Thank you very much in advance :)
That was good advice. I will host an event. Invite the president of Leica. Call him Tim Leica on the invitation. He'll think I mean Tim Apple. He'll show up thinking to have a chance to meet Tim Cook. Instead he meets me. He throws up a little in his mouth and leaves. This is just phase one. I haven't got to the Jason Momoa chase scene yet.
14:01 is especially important. People often think about what a brand can do for them instead of the other way around, and that will hold their growth back in the long run. Great upload brother!
Will do a ton of that in my online workshop : ) And I have a video in the making where I talk about book making and I show my older projects. But it won't come out soon.
Awesome tips Samuel, definitely keep that in mind on my journey to become an ambassador 🤣 thanks for sharing the reality of being an ambassador and that it isn't all rainbows and lush grass on the other side. Everything requires hard work!
I look forward to your next action video. The one that takes place in the boxing ring. Telling the story as you box...complete with your exclamations as you get hurt. "Oooff! "Ahhh!" etc
Such a fine video Sam the 360 format was so interesting, start to finish it was very engaging. Also appreciated the things you said very honest opinion and perspective. I would really love to join one of your workshops someday. PS: I’m still confused whether or not I should get the Q2 or upgrade to an XPro3
Thanks Rashik! I had fun with the 360 camera : ) Q2 or X-Pro3? Hard to answer that for you man :) Go with your gut feeling. And always try cameras first before buying if possible.
Samuel It's your fault I bought a RICOH GR III street!😉 And I love that little beast of a camera.📷 I think you should shoot street because you like it and not to become an ambassador. If it is the case that Ricoh wants a second Ricoh GR ambassador in the Netherlands it will come my way. If not, I'm having a lot of fun with my Ricoh GR III. Will there be a new GR project video on RU-vid soon? IT MAST BE ……. THAT LITTLE BEAST OF A CAMERA.📷
Never thought about being a brand ambassador at all. Will just stay loyal to the brand that I’m passionate about, I’m happy with what I’m doing. But as always great content 👏👋😊
Yes I don't think it's something one should seek out necessarily :) Being happy with the tools or the brand one is using is definitely the healthy way to go!
Thanks Samuel for explaining vthe so call "ambassador" on these video. At 1st I really thought cameras company paid well to all these ambassador... Now I understand. Thanks again hope to see more your videos and gv full support to you.
Really good advice, I feel like everyone wants to be an ambassador (even me) but yes we do have to come to the realization, do I have something to offer? And what can I provide that’s better than what the brand already has? If anything we should connect with smaller companies that have potential, so both you as an artist AND the company can grow together
Nice video Samuel. I am a Fujifilm shooter, but after seeing your video I will consider a Ricoh GR camera (not really, but maybe by this comment you are even more appreciated by Ricoh...haha). But I will watch some more Ricoh GR video's, I promise. By the way, so scary to see you ride that scooter thingy on the road with cars driving near you. I think it's not allowed here (Netherlands).
Haha I am not forcing you onto the dark side : D But I appreciate the comment! And here in germany bicycles and scooters can all ride on the main street as long as they are on the right side of the road :)
Me too, Albert, me too. But since when has being treated like the peeons of the camera world by the ignorant and sometimes even the not-so-ignorant stopped us from pursuing photography with what we just love to shoot? Sincerely or not, Samuel has even expressed regret about his who-cares-about comment and hinted that he used it ironically. Whenever I encounter such a Pentax-dissing situation or comment, I try to remind myself that I first and foremost became a Pentaxian because I appreciated what the system could bring to my photography and because of the fun that could be had in the process of using it. Usually works for me.
Sounds like the classic joke of people asking photographers to shoot their wedding or whatever for exposure. ;D Though, in this case the exposure might be enough to be worth it. Them not directly paying to license photos for marketing purposes is odd.
I think I should have explained it better... Of course you as a photographer should be paid to provide your photographs for commercial purposes. What I should have said is that I meant that it is okay for a brand to use my photographs in combination with my name and identity to promote a product (like a photobook with all ambassador photos to show at photokina). Commercial use would be if a brand takes your photo and creates ads without any credit to the photographer or use a photograph to put on packaging for example. Brands do know what licensing is and the photographer can sell his/her image to the brand. An ambassador relationship should be transparent and before anything goes out into public the ambassador is informed and usually involved in the planning of a campaign. Hope that clarifies it a little bit!
@@SamuelStreetlife I see. It's all good. Generally what you described didn't sound super lucrative for how much they get in return, which was my main focus in the comment. Though, it's difficult to quantify some of the value. I remember you commenting on an old X100F video I had made which is how I found you. So at least in my case it wasn't your Ricoh reach that made the connection.
Not at all. Almost all of the GR ambassadors are using multiple cameras from different brands. For example Herbie Yamaguchi is another GR Ambassador and very well known japanese photographer who also uses a Leica M10 Monchrom a lot. He is speaking at Leica events and GR events. This wouldn't be possible if he was a Nikon Ambassador and then also uses a Canon camera as his main camera. The GR is a compact camera for snapshots. It is one specific tool that a photographer can use. Ricoh would have way less ambassadors if they would require us to never touch another camera again : ) And personally for that reason I would never want to be a Canon, Sony, Nikon or Leica Ambassador because I would feel too limited. Hope that answered your question! Cheers.
Not really because in the beginning I only had contact with Ricoh Germany. I met Ricoh Japan after the GRIII launch :) But it made it easier to build trust with them quick for sure.
Get good! Samuel always so candid and honest. Having followed him this all feels natural and makes sense. You can really feel his anticipation/love for the brand when they launched the gr iii. His point on relationship building is good and would be difficult if you were in it just for the money. Sounds like he had eaten before taping ;) No hunting for sushi.
Wait, what? At 5:00 were you actually taking pictures with a DSLR in one hand and a flash in the other whilst riding a skateboard backwards? How is it even humanly possible? :))
Nobody even mentioning 0:25?! Driving backwards in this position on a skateboard while taking pictures with a camera AND getting footage with a gopro on a selfiestick??!
Interesting, your story. Not interested in being an ambassador before but now more open. Will focus on my personal work maybe this would interest them #fujifilm #RicohGR LOL. For me just having fun.
To me it seems that being an ambassador is more so about Bragging rights and cool gear you could try out. For ambassadors that care about the brand and the prestige behind it gives off a sense of pride that your work is valued by a company you look up to.
Why is Pentax so low in your eyes. They have great lens and Pentax k1 is completely fine camera. It does not have the best autofocus and the video is basically non existent (like ricoh gr) but for still photography, all you really need is great sensor or film coupled with great lens. All this camera fetishism is getting us away from photography. Really Samuel, you should not bash a brand that was always kindest to photographers.
I regret my comment about Pentax honestly. It wasn't meant to be a diss towards Pentax. I actually LOVE Pentax because they always offered the best value for the money. My first DSLR was a Pentax K100D and I loved and used a DA 12-24mm and a DA* 50-135mm for a long time. But Pentax has a reputation of being the outsider of the camera world because they are not good at marketing their products. And it took them a very long time to develop a full frame camera so many pentax user switched brands (me included). I have nothing but love for Pentax :) My comment was more a mirroring of what the camera world is thinking.
@@SamuelStreetlife thank you for your honest answer. See you on 27th of november, it was nice to see you with pentax gear on the registration page! Pentax marketing is non existent and their cameras are chunky and you can imagine being used only by middle aged safari tourist or some lonely bird lover. But they make and made great optics. I bought mine 43mm for 280€ and look for how much is identical one made for leica, 1500! both used. And they fool people with batteries. Identical made for sigma quattros are more than three times cheaper. Hate that. It took me a while to really get into photography because i was so much put of with it being only rich people thing. It is probably the most snobbish art form there is and most people that are into it are full of them selves. A long rambling 🙂. You are doing the great job, thank you!
