That message of the mental sides of sport really put a lot into perspective for me! I had PRd really early in the skating season and have been super frustrated that I haven't been able to get back to that score. That was also the competition in which I had fallen asleep between my warm up and me actually competing. I was the last skater in my group so I was able to get a 10 minute nap in. My coach woke me up as the skater before me had finished so I didnt have really any time to stress and think hard about my program. I just relied on muscle memory. I always forget that skating is as much a mental sport as it is physical, and Ive been super neglectful of my mental state at competitions. Thanks for the reminder to focus on that as well, I will remeber to focus on that for the rest of my season.
I would also love a video on where to get good quality yet affordable figure skating dresses, like a little insight on those sketchy eBay ones, or second hand and maybe some designers that you recommend. ❤️
Yes for sure! I can definitely make a deep-dive but if you are looking for advice immediately- my recent video called "Is Figure Skating Expensive?" has a section where I talk about figure skating dresses and a couple of different of options at various price points! I also linked some of those options in the description section of that video!
What great tips! I really appreciate this sort of mindset- do you do similar things in the corporate world? I'm not a very competitive person but I think this sort of thinking goes beyond that and a series with tips on how to apply a healthy athlete's mindset in life would be awesome! Thanks for being sharing! :D
That's a great idea! And yes, I would say there is so much value to learning and practicing sports at any phase of your life- the learning you gather from it can certainly be applied to all other aspect of your life. With that said, I definitely say, the good mental habits I have built as an athlete 100% helps me cope with the stressors of the corporate world (:
@@XeniaStarr I totally feel you! I felt the same when I first started- I think something that helped me was isolating the 2 parts, the first push out and then the second push under. The under push is harder so I would start by trying to improve your first push but just practicing pushing out and then back in close to your other foot but no need to cross under yet. Just getting comfortable with the first push can help a lot!
SO TRUE u are part of my inspo for performance and carriage and push me to get better every day ~~ i'll miss you in bronze this year!! but glad i get to watch what you do at the same time hehe since you know they love putting me last usually 🫠
