Thank you, Mr. Randy, for the informative video. I agree that applicants must be fully prepared for the fitness test before pursuing a career in law enforcement. It can be a frustrating process that takes a toll on anyone. Physically, I believe I'm ready; I’ve been training intensely. However, when it comes to the beep test, my mental health becomes a barrier. That experience left me traumatized, and I haven’t been able to move past it. Perhaps this path isn’t meant for me.

What's a "beep test"?

@@AnnaAnnieAnneofGreenGables The beep test is a fitness test to check how long you can run back and forth between two points before getting too tired. The test starts slow, but the beeps get faster, so you have to run quicker. To qualify for the police, you must reach at least stage 7 on the beep test. This demonstrates that you have the necessary endurance for the job. Many applicants twist their knees or hips during the test. So not that easy but it comes after good practice.

It is a test that comes with this warning: there is a chance that doing this exercise will cause one to rush to the restroom with an urgency to vomit and/or have a bowel movement.

My advice, is know the service and where it is, that you're applying too. With a few services in my interview, I got asked what do you know about this service? What do you know about this city?

Hi Randall! I'm considering a cadet program to gain practical experience and as an alternative to post-secondary education. Will completing the cadet program make my application for a police constable position more competitive, or would having post-secondary education be a better option?

I’m not sure about what cadet program you mean, with a service in particular? Different services offer different programs and don’t necessarily give an advantage when applying. Though they should. But I have a couple videos that cover this in the playlist, let me know what you think and good luck!

@@OfficerArsenault Several police services here in Ontario like OPP and PRP offer Police Cadet apprenticeship-style program for young adults to gain insight and experience in policing prior to gaining employment as a Recruit Constable. It’s contract position that socializes new candidates into the policing culture, and assist frontline officers. What are your thoughts on this path?

I’m a licensed carpenter, did my apprenticeship before I became a police officer and was also part of the union, first in Vancouver and then Toronto. I agree, more people need to consider trades and it’s an honourable career.
