Absolutely! But they should also be aware they'll be working with other creatives and should still understand what the other people do (like graphic design and even copy writing)
this is the best explanation of how to be a creative director. i aim to become a cd and this is very helpful for me to know the steps on how to become a good cd. Thanks Philip!
You are very experienced and a capable mentor but in this video you have tell what qualities are needed once you have become creative director and not telling how to be a creative director from beginning
Actually, yes, I did. You might want to watch again. AND watch this one, too. Search my channel page, I've done multiple videos on the topic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nv-RkAMCmDo.html
i’m currently in community college studying graphic design and my ultimate goal is to become a CD! do you think i’d still be fully capable as a CD with only going to community college or should i transfer to a four year?
Becoming a CD is about working your way up the ladder and gaining experience. It's not based on the type of school you went to, but it is based on the level of work you do and the types of jobs you can get.
Great video, great info. I'm currently a Marketing Manager, but I'm lookin for a way to get into the more creative side of marketing. I do photography and videography as a side-hustle so I have that sort of experience, but I'm just starting to learn graphic design. Am I headed down the right path? Should I be looking to eventually get a role as a junior designer and then work my way up?
NO. You should not get a job as a junior graphic designer. If you work as a video editor as a side hustle you can apply for a Video Editor role in an agency. Learn graphic design side by side And then try side projects of design as well. Marketing skill will be an add on in this to get more side hustle projects.
Good evening: Hi, how on earth is person gonna be a Creative Director without being designer or creative 🤔..?? And why. That's like being a CFO but you don't know nothing about Finances 🙂🙂..!!
It would be useful to me as a new Design manager to hear how to give constructive criticism to juniors who have different personalities. Particularly when the design needs to be better and the junior is a sensitive person. Best Regards
Hello, I am currently majoring in marketing (this will be my third year) but I want to become a creative director. Is this possible to achieve this career with my degree or should I change it. I was thinking of minoring in art or media management, my college does not offer a graphic design minor. This video was very informative, thank you!
Minoring in art won't help. Media management is a better minor. But if you want to be a CD, you have to be a designer first. Marketing is a good foundation though that many creative don't have, so that will help you, but you need to study design, either in school or on your own!
Great information. Starting out as a designer, I had a great CD to learn from, but equally leant a lot from poor CDs from other agencies I joined. Apart from the main job requirements, I aim is to remain humble and approachable to my team - this creates a togetherness - which always generates the best work. The best idea can come from anyone 👍🏻
Don't apply to jobs through online application portals. Make industry connections, go to conferences IRL, share value with CD's who might be hiring managers, find them on LinkedIn - and ask a local CD to coffee. Don't give up.
