Hey! I’ve been understudying with a local wholesaler for about a year… we live in KS, where there is not much academic opportunity for this career, and flower shops are dying here. my ultimate goal is to own my own flower shop and all of your advice really helped. Thank you for this!! We need more flowers on this earth!
Learning from a wholesaler is great! You’ll see different flower varieties, how the product moves in and out and how costs fluctuate depending on growers, availability, and weather conditions among other things… see if you can pick up skills in how to run a flower business, if you plan on selling to the public. It’s a totally different ball game. Where there’s a will, there’s a way! :)
Hi Angelica, Your video was super helpful! I am looking to open a floral shop soon but one thing I am struggling to learn or seek information is the process of ordering stock supply so for example, how often to order in florals, how many distributors should we partner with, how quickly the florals die, etc. That would be so so helpful!
Hi! I’m so happy you’ve found my videos helpful. :) Floral shops run a little different than flowering for events. You’ll have to decide how many times per week you want to pickup/receive flowers then pick your flowers or decide which types of blooms you want to design with and then break up the orders to fulfill your demand. Most flowers last 3-10days if treated and kept in a cooler. Practice establishing a relationship with 2-3 growers or distributors. Test their product and reassess based on quality, timeliness, and service. Circle through a few as you adjust. Product changes, weather changes and prices change all the time so test, practice, and adjust, but don’t ever get discouraged from moving forward and growing in the direction that is right for you. 💞
Thanks for sharing your experience ☺️ I really enjoyed putting my wedding arrangements together too. It was my first time and my favorite part of my wedding planning and prep. Now I’m curious about this kind of work
Love Your Vlog Just Came Cross It! KEEP UP THE BEAUTIFUL WORK!! I'd Love To See Visuals Like Photo While You Talk Like Of Your Ur Wedding 💐 In The Future. Much Love. 🌼
That’s amazing! I’m glad you’re here!! And thank you so much for sharing you want to see visuals. That’s so helpful to know what to put in when I’m editing. 💕☺️
I wish you provided your city/state. I’m the most familiar with California suppliers, but I know Mayesh is also located in other states and Ramirez Wholesale Flowers ships nationwide. You can also try searching “[state/city] rose farm” to find local growers you can pick up from or have them deliver.
I use Wordpress for me website and I like the red shears you see me use in most of my videos. They’re from the brand Zenport, Model H300SC. They are slightly slanted and create really sharp cuts.
Some floral designers I followed posted on their stories the need for freelancers and I replied. One then referred me to another and also while freelancing you meet other designers you connect with that might need help in the future and contact you directly. Best practice is to email or message designers you feel you want to work with and learn from and chances are there will be a time when they offer dates to you.
I wonder why more men don’t do this, I find flowers very interesting personally ! I’d like to move into Homeopathy as well, thank you for this informative video.
There are a ton of men in the floral industry. Mostly growers, wholesales, contractors, and strikers, but there are some pretty cool guys who design too. If you have an art for it, your tribe will find you. Get started! 🌱
