it will depend on how long will it take for you to complete your PLA requirements. Once you get your PLA report you will be given two years to make a learning plan and take the csmls exam. In my own experience it took me a year to finish my PLA requirements and did another year of school before i wrote the exam and became MLT. so it was a total of 2 years for me.

I am not an assessor but my guess is that you will be eligible to write the exam right away if you were able to practice on all discipline and you finished the histology course from SAIT.. You would still need to go through PLA process to get the report that you can write the the exam or if they will require more courses you can do both... find a job and apply for express entry whichever opportunity comes first just grab it.. 😊 by the way after your PLA, you will be eligible to to write the exam for Med lab assistant because you have the degreen in Med lab Science.. if you can be MLA certified you can work as MLA while waiting to become MLT

based on my experience if i would rank it: (1- most difficult and 3 as the easiest) 1. csmls - because it is not based on theoretical it is more on application and critical thinking of what you know about med lab science. 2. med tech board exam (PRC) - because most of the exam takers were fresh grad and a lot of disciplines and topic to review in a short period of time 3. ascpi - unlike the regular board exam, ascp is more about scenarios or situations in the work field so if you have experience it would be easier to answer questions. Since I already took the medtech board exam (i had more confidence in answering the questions because its like taking the board exam again but without histopath questions)

if you passed the csmls MLT you can work as mlt.. its upto you if you want to pursue masters degree in microbiology. it will be an added asset to your resume then

possible po ang MLA depende din kung saang province kayo magwork. may mga province n bsta may MLT experience ka n pwede ka magwork as MLA agad no need to take MLA exam or school. like sa Winnipeg, Manitoba kung saan ako nagstart. First job ko when i came to Canada was MLA. Pero ibang province magkakaiba po ang rules. Sa iba po regulated ang MLA so need nyo pa na mag aral or exam for MLA bago makapagwork as MLA.

1. you can draft your own experience if it would be easier for you and your employer just make sure that when it is finalize that they approved, signed and have it printed with the institution heading. If CSMLS would try to reach out to your employer, they should be able to verify that the information you submitted is what they created for your application 2. If CSMLS receives all the required documents, PLA might take upto 6 weeks to be completed. Then if they will require you to make a learning plan before writing the exam, you will have 2 years to complete that. PLA mentioned 1-3 years to be completed and is time consuming because of all the required documents you have to collect. Some previous applicants took 1-3 years before they completed their documents. But it is all up to you and your institution, if you can speed up the process. Honestly in my experience it only took me 6 months to gather my documents. 3. ASCP is not recognized in Canada but it will not hurt to submit it as an additional credential.. ASCP is only honoured in the States. When I applied for my PLA I still declared my ASCP license as part of my credentials.

depends on the province.. some province can hire you based on you experience as MLT you can work as lab assistant but some province are requiring that you have a lab assistant license here to work as lab technician regardless if you have previous mlt experience.. so it all depends on the place you are planning to apply for lab technician/ lab assistant... Med Lab technologist is a different job this really require that you have a CSMLS license

what education or degree did you take? is it public health? if so, it is the same as medical laboratory technology program but i suggest you inquire directly from csmls website. their contact information is all the website. you can send them a message about this matter just to be sure before you try the PLA

@@mabiandrupert I hold a Licence degree in life sciences (it's like general biology) and I'm not specifically educated as med lab technologist but I've been trained and self taught about the disciplines mentioned (the training was with administrative procedures), so I have theoretical and practical knowledge of most of the analyses conducted in a medical laboratory. In the website they stated "if you have been educated and/or trained as a medical laboratory technologist", So there's 3 cases either educated or trained or both, that's what i understood. That's why in my case i ask will i be considered as trained to have my experience assessed through the PLA as they state in their website? Thank you.

dependa on the province some may need the lab assistant license but some provinces can recognize ur MLT experience from your home country and can hire you right away. it all depends on the province u are planning to live

depende po sa magiging PLA nyo baka require lang kayo ng 1 year bridging school. roughly 10-15k ung 1 year bridging pero kung buong MLT program ang gusto nyo baka mas mahal po depende pa din kung sang province or school nyo kukunin un.

You have to do the assessment to know but I suggest you contact csmls before applying for PLA to confirm and to know if it is worth going through PLA to know your eligibility.

Federal Skilled Worker Program ako noong 2013 (FSWP 2013) sent my requirements in october 2013 then got positive letter ng december2013. after that the whole year 2014 n ung mga followup like medical exam and other fees. then nung makuha k visa k bingyan na lang ako until june 2015 na magstay ng pinas. pero april 2015 n ako dumating ng Canada. I think iba n ang requirement ng FSWP ngayon. more commonly known na as Express Entryn ata ang meron na pwede m applyan. Anyway ang first job ko is medical laboratory assistant then i processed my mlt license while i was working as MLA

There are different reviewers that you can try. I will share the review materials I used in a separate video that I will upload soon. Some of the materials I used are based on my preference, as I am used to those materials ever since I reviewed for my Philippine MLT Licensure and ASCP license- I then used the same reviewers when I took the CSMLS exam

i think it is different because mlt is focused on other disciplines aside from microbiology. it has chemistry, hematology, immunology, transfusion medicine, toxicology, and molecular diagnostics

if nandito n kayo sa canada as immigrant may chance pa din po mag medtech dito.. kahit 2 years lang ung experience nila ma credit un as long as within latest 5 years po un. example 2023 ka dumating ng canada as immigrant then ung experience mo from 2019-2021 pasok pa sya sa consideration until 2024

if you are going to study for the whole MLT program you dont need to do PLA but you will still need to submit requirements to the school that you will take the mlt program

wala pong minimum requirement ito po ay assessment based sa education background and experience mo. so kng newly grad ka mag undergo ka p din nito. then ung internship pala natin is considered work experience na rin.

it depends on what province you are planning to go to. Each province in Canada has a good university and it depends on the field you are planning to study. Mostly all of the universities has their own website thay you can check and inquire. I live in Nova Scotia and there are few good universities here like Dalhousie, Acadia, Cape Breton, St. Francis, Mount Saint Vincent and etc. I did not graduate here so I don't personally know much about the universities or schools in NS but here is a link that you can check -> www.mynsfuture.ca/universities-colleges

you should acquire legal status to come to canada first. regardless if you masteral degree or not the PLA is mostly assess based on experience and a little bit if educational background.

i dont have any idea if employers here hires lab technician outside of Canada. But it wont hurt to try. Just search for that job online, most of job postings can be found now on the internet

i have MLS ASCPI license as well but unfortunately it is not equivalent as CSMLS MLT. if you are planning to work in Canada you will still have to undergo PLA then write their licensure exam in order to work as MLT in Canada. But if you have lab work experience you can work as a lab assistant in some provinces in Canada

depends on the province in canada.. it can be as low as 27/ hour or can be as high as 33/hour as starting rate. But it all depends in which province you would like to work.

there is no equivalency here in canada.. i also have ASCP MLS Certificate because my initial plan was to work in the states but when i came to canada I found out that it has no bearing as it is exclusive for some states in the US only..

Unfortunately no, I have both MLS ASCPI and CSMLS MLT. Before I came to Canada I already have my ASCP, I still submitted it as additional credential for my PLA. But I think they don't recognize it as equivalent to MLT license here in Canada.

pwede mo idagdag sa credentials mo ung ascp. I also have ASCPI Med Lab Scientist License. I just asked ASCP to send my license info to CSMLS directly

You can start your PLA as early as now, no need to finish your current course coz the assessment will be based on your educ and work experience as MLT. then when you get eligibility and pass the exam, you can work as MLT here in Canada.. but if you can have a work permit now i think you can start working as lab assistant while working your papers to become MLT.

no it is only honored in the USA

that is exactly what an internationally educated MLT should do. Secure an immigrant status / visa thru any program by government (express entry/ provincial nominee) to be able to enter to Canada first then when you get your status, you can start applying for PLA even if you are still in your home country.

yes that is correct. without or lacking of work experience, the csmls will decide if you need a learning plan.

work experience sa Philippines would be credited but if you don't have or have less work experience as medtech it might result to a full mlt credited program or multiple courses to take. depende sa discipline na you are lacking experience of.
