It's always a great time with these young talents in my Rosberg Racing Academy. That's why I joined them for the WSK Open Cup at the International Circuit 7 Laghi in Italy. Our Rosberg Young Drivers Academy did great and it is so cool to see how professional these young talents are. Go-Karting teaches you motorsport right from the beginning - the technology, the driving skills, as well as the passion that is needed. There are three steps that pave the way to become a racing driver - check out this video to find out what the steps are.

I was karting as a kid. I was lucky enough to have free karting courses at an academy in my city. Sadly enough, my mum decided it's more important to attend maths and language courses so I would pass my exams into middle school, therefore she made me quit karting. I don't blame her, I just wish there was a way to do both. I'm turning 22 this year and driving is my biggest passion. Too bad I couldn't turn it into a career. These kids are really lucky to get this opportunity!

Look, you need to understand one thing, and also make your kids understand this as well: If a parent *obliges* you to quit what you like just so you do as they did, then they are *handicapping* you, and harming your life. You know that actually *whole lives* are ruined just by their parents, don't you? May not be the case, but if they truly love instead of wanting to posses you, then they'll always let you do what you like (as they would have wanted to when they were young) as long as you're not harming yourself. You should have argued better to her, or your father should have actually been *a father.* Now that you're 22, still there are plenty of things you can do. Go for them, don't look behind, contact the people you've met before and don't miss a *single chance...*

I was lucky, I was doing pretty well in racing and went to university. I considered dropping out but my father suggested I finish my studies so I had the qualifications at least if I didn't forge a career as a professional driver. As it turns out it was a great move, because I had some great successes but ultimately ran out of money so now I have a decent job and still race for fun, over 25 years after I started. None, except for the few who reached F1 of my generation like Hamilton and Button are still racing regularly. All have turned to being reporters or other jobs so I'm glad I didn't go that route.

@asmith78100
@asmith78100 3 года назад
@@FirstName69 hes got a point you know. Getting sponsored is actually like the 2nd or 3rd step on being successful in karting. First like what he said is that you need money to either buy your own kart or when they mean by *Joining team* your actually just buying or renting a super new kart from them or this guy rosbergs academy an that requires a huge finance plan unless your related to a rich dad. Now getting sponsored is not easy from what I heard, you need to be good that these companies could trust that you'll bring in good results an making a good name for yourself to help advertise which is why you need to do the hard work first by karting under your own budget unless you know someone who knows someone who also knows someone's dad who owns a big company that can maybe get you a sponsorship deal. Karting ain't easy since the best are the ones with the big budgets an invest probably like nearly or over 500k to win. This clearly shows that your worthy enough to own a mercedes benz.
@asmith78100
@asmith78100 3 года назад
@Michael Gia Huy Nguyen well if your gonna take care of the kart yourself then you better have a knowledge in mechanics, you'll need to be able to afford replacement parts an last I checked tires ain't cheap when your using many sets per week. Now for the driver you'll only need like a suit an helmet which is probably like less then 1k or 800. Now the next big step is a trailer that youll need to invest if your going to be driving it to places unless you own a big truck with a huge flat bend or a big van. Next is equipment like kart stands for when you need to do work on the kart, fuel, a few little replacement parts when one thing breaks, some handy tools, a special tools to take a tire off the rim unless your strong enough to do it with your hands. Plus your entree feeds an all of this is when you do it by yourself. An that's pretty alot when you look at it. Another option is to have the team do the work an ship your kart but that's 2x more expensive.

While racing against people with 3 karts, motorhomes and mechanics. Nico says a £200k a yr, we had a budget of £2k a yr. So yea, long story short you need money - which most people don’t have. Local racing can be done for about £1500 - £2000 a year if you want to do it as cheaply as possible but as soon as you step up to British championship or equivalent level, you are looking at anywhere from £3000 to turn up on the grid (with the kart being almost entirely second hand (although obviously good second hand equipment like a 2018 ex-team chassis) to £100000+ for a full factory drive for the entire year racing in the UK and Europe every weekend. That’s my experience anyway. Me and my dad run my kart and it cost us around £3000 for British champs this year just to get on the grid and get within half a second of the pace. Although relative to the rest of motorsport, £3000 is cheap.

i wish i couldve done karting when i was younger but obviously im not rich with money or blessed with that lifestyle. im 19 now and the dream is still itching away at me but im not confident in the ways i can make it at my age. its upsetting i think there should be more public accessed programs for people like myself who still have that dream.

I saw Peter Mücke, an old man beating Andre Lotterer at the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix. When he was a young man he didn't have the money to become a professional racing driver, talent wasn't and isn't the problem. But he did grow some businesses instead and even could start a race team. Some of the most famous of his Junior drivers are Sebastian Vettel, Robert Kubica, Ralf Schumacher, Pascal Wehrlein... Even his son became a professional race driver. You still can become succesfull in racing if you want, you don't have to be the driver.

There are 3 possibilities : Start karting and have the chance to be spotted by big sponsors, Start karting and continue your career with the parents money, Start karting and try to make money in the same time to finance yourself

"to be spotted by big sponsors". From experience this is pretty much always not how it works, you have to reach out to sponsors yourself and show them why they should support you

This video shows you the "optimistic" view obviously, but like everyone has repeated over and over here, there is a common theme to what it takes to go professional in racing. In order of importance: 1) Money (it is a business, so is all about money) 2) Network (see item 1) 3) Talent (at least be decent) 4) Luck (needs lot of that) All of these have to line up and is like winning a lotto. Hard work can replace talent but you still need the other three.

Hey people ! The cheapest way to race with go karts is actually to race in the rental go kart Sodi SWS series ! There are tracks in almost every country where they have races under their organization and if you win in your country than you go on the SWS Finals. There you have few races with the 80 best drivers from around 65 different countries. Per year and with all training costs and gasoline you need to come to track and for all the races ( only 10 best results counts, so you basically need only 10 races if you do good ) the cost for all together is around 3-4k€, but this is the price if you go also in the foregin countries on races, if you drive only in your country the expanses are much lower. If you win or at least finish in top 5 on the finals, you can expect a lot of interest for your service as a professional driver. Definetely check it out and i hope we see each other on one of the finals one day. All the best.

Remember James Hunt for example started racing at 17 years old and became world champion at 29 years old. Truly a brilliant career take from the underdogs for understanding
@shooter7a
@shooter7a 19 дней назад
Completely different era. That could NEVER happen now. At 17, you need to have THOUSANDS of hours of kart racing experience. Senna showed the way in the late 70s...with his unprecedented accumulation of time in karts. People think he was just this massive talent... What they don't realize is he simply hat more driving time than anyone. When he was a kid...he would regularly burn up more engines and tires than some did in a year. 4 Engines and 20 sets of tires PER WEEK was common when Senna was racing karts. Senna probably had more than 10,000 hours of driving time before he even raced a CAR.

I was testing my kart recently and got chatting to a young guy that had done the British championship. He said in order to be competitive you need at least £150k budget for the season. He did it on a shoestring at £40k and barely got into the top 10. The simple fact is your parents have to be rich in order to make it in racing

I can sense a lot of broken talented racers in these comments that have very little chance of becoming that racer due to financial situations or maybe you're in your early 20s already. There's always a way just stop dreaming, take that step, make a plan.

My son does incredible things with a kart, real racing instinct. Wakes up with racing an goes to sleep with it.. but afortunly it is so expensive, and we see rich kids doing the half af wat my son can do, but they have al the chances... It would be good to give real tallented future pilots a chance, and not the big money. Greetings from Belgium 🇧🇪😏🏎️
