Great content. Remember when looking at a ADN or BSN RN program. Look at your financial status, living stutation, accreditation of the school, the school NCLEX pass rate. I am a new grad RN with a ADN. In my state I got a position working in ICU at a large magnet hospital. Plus the hospital will pay for me to get my BSN. I have a friend in the same state and we work at the same hospital. They are RN with BSN and works on Med-Surg floor. They are 60K in debt and make about a dollar more than me. Remember nursing school is hard. Not everyone is successful in the nursing program. Please do your research and pick a program that fits you. STAY ON YOUR gRiNd.

@melscorner4598
@melscorner4598 5 лет назад
@@keritzaf6346 I am not sure about L/D because that's not my area..However the hospital where I work does hire RNs with ADN in L/D. The incentive pay as a new grad BSN is only a dollar more. Contact your hospital HR department. They will be able to answer your questions..remember every state and hospital has different criteria..

Hi there! I’m in SC too and considering going into the nursing field. There’s several schools near me that offer the ADN program and I was wondering if you would recommend that? I’m currently in college for another degree and realize that’s not what I want anymore. But I also can’t afford to be in school for another 3-4 years doing the BSN. Do you think ADN would be a good route? I’ve heard so many people tell me that nowadays most places only hire BSNs so I’m nervous

I also recommend taking AP classes in high school for chemistry etc it will take off your prerequisite loads Also if you work in a different career or couldn’t get in you can turn your bachelors into a nursing masters degree in accelerated nursing program. You also can become a LPN and turn that into a bachelors... You can also take your prerequisites at a technical school to save money and then apply to universities nursing school

Yes more hospitals are moving towards hiring more BSN nurses, but feel out the area you live in. I live in rural Maine and i have my ADN, the new grads I was hired with that have their BSN only make 50 cents/hr more than I do. I think as long as you stress that you plan on going back to school in your interviews, you have a pretty good chance getting hired with an ADN! Also, you enter the work force sooner and most employers will pay you to go back to school. Once i go for my BSN i can do it all online too!

Great points! I'd definitely recommend getting a job in the healthcare field, department specific if you can, at any point prior or even during nursing school. Whether that be a transporter, unit coordinator, receptionist, medical records, nursing assistant, etc, etc. Even if it's a couple hours a week. Volunteer if you're able to. Being in the atmosphere of the hospital is invaluable experience you just WON'T get from school, and it will give you a definite LEG UP throughout the program. Once you graduate, you've already established a, hopefully good ;), reputation somewhere-- and landing a job should be a breeze. Just be sure not to carry bad habits you may observe in the hospital/facility OVER into nursing school, as the didactic curriculum will expect you to answer 'by the book.' Thanks so much for taking the time to explain all of this Lexi. It's EXTREMELY important information for prospective nurses!

I graduated with my ASN 3 years ago after a 16 month program & getting a job as a new grad was thankfully a LOT easier than I thought it was going to be. Getting a job in specialty areas like Peds, NICU, Mother Baby, L&D is damn near impossible without a BSN, period. Have you applied for your multi state license? That’s the compact licensure you were referring to. I believe Texas is a compact state. Useful for anyone looking to do travel nursing.

I’m applying to be in the nursing program in January so I can start to get my ASN!!! I highly HIGHLY recommend taking AP classes in highschool ( not just medical, include math, English, history etc). I took so many AP classes in highschool and the credit I received allowed me to skip a lot of classes and save so much money in college. The path I’m on right now, when I get admitted into the nursing program, I will only have to take nursing classes and none of the other classes they revoked I take along with them. While I’m getting my ASN they have us take the nursing exam to be an RN so I’m excited to be able to start working right off the bat. My school also has a transfer programs so I can get my BSN right after!

I would like to add that 7:40 when you say you can “only work as a nurse in Florida” that Florida is a member of the eNLC. AKA: the licensure for Florida is actually usable in other compact states. Some states are non-compact, however, as of January 19th, 2018, the eNLC was implemented and Florida (the license you received) is apart of this. Therefore, you are actually able to practice and travel in all compact states as a registered nurse. Please like this for the information.

Susie Says So I agree, i'm in nursing school in Texas to become a LVN. There are a plethora of jobs here in the Dallas area. The job my cousin works at as a lvn pays her 33/hr and she has a company car. Not everyone wants to work in a hospital setting!
@susiesaysso9651
@susiesaysso9651 6 лет назад
lasondra wolf I agree love. The hospitals in my area are becoming over saturated due to the amount of new nurse grads, largely because a lot of hospitals offer the RN program and students hope to just go right to work there. The hospital setting is GREAT for gaining knowledge and experience but there are so many other avenues to consider as well.

I know here in the Dallas area that the nurse shortage is real! I wish people stop making it seem like lvn/lpn are not nurses. We take the NCLEX too! I personally don't want to work in a hospital cause I value my time. Like I said my cousin is a travel lvn nurse and she makes more then some of the RNs she work with. Anybody can get a degree but experience is priceless! BTW here the only thing lvn can't do is make a care plan or administer drugs via iv. But everything else is pretty much a go.

Actually, “diploma nursing” aka LPN isn’t being “phased out.” There are quite a few LPN programs in the surrounding area in which I live. LPN’s in my area can work pretty much anywhere that an RN can. I just don’t like that people aren’t considering LPN’s nurses anymore. I’m currently waiting to get into an LPN program, then plan on bridging to RN when I get to that point.

Gunner Carter it’s because LPNS are practical nurses meaning that they still aren’t real nurses. Just like one step behind. And they make way less money due to them having less responsibilities
@nikitabudgets4201
@nikitabudgets4201 5 лет назад
Actually I think what she meant by diploma nursing is a program where you can obtain a actual diploma in nursing, not LPN. I heard of one hospital in CT that had it, the program just closed in 2017. So it is being phased out
@picturegirl4315
@picturegirl4315 5 лет назад
LPNs are being phased out in many states. Programs lie and say LPNs can work anywhere an RN can and do everything an RN can do. It’s all fluff to sell an extremely expensive 1yr diploma, which if you think about it, isn’t actually worth the weak salary and workload. If you want to be an LPN take it for what it is or you’ll be extremely disappointed.
@selimacarson7528
@selimacarson7528 5 лет назад
Picture Girl Lpn are not being phased out they work in LTC, Home Care, Doctor Office, Prison, Jail, and Mental Health faculty. I know LPNs and LVN who make good money. Diploma nurse do the same course as regular RN; then they go to hospital for Nursing school. After that program you can do you BSN in 12-16 months

Some community colleges are teaming up with their local state colleges in a dual enrollment program, meaning you can apply and enroll to get your ADN at the community college and your BSN through the other state colleges via online at the same time, saving a lot of time and money. I know MD colleges have done this, not too sure about other states.

If in high school I suggest taking college classes during your junior and senior year to work towards your degree which is what I am doing now and I already have 30 credits I am personally getting my adn first and then doing the RN to BSN program also for most high School students you don't have to pay but the only problem is all school won't accept your college credit

In Canada you can get your BScN right after graduating high school, that's what majority of people do

7:28 Transferring your RN license to from state to state, may not be as complicated as you may think. Thanks to the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). ... Nurses will have the ability to practice in both their home state and other states that participate in the NLC.

I have a few options but one is really standing out to me... there’s a nursing school who’s offering an RN Diploma and then if you want to get your BSN they’re affiliated with an university and you could do it, they offer you a job as soon as you graduated, If you work 15 hours a week while you are in nursing school they’ll pay for your education and it’ll take just 3.5 years to get everything done, of course you have to compete your prerequisites and then go to nursing school. What are your thoughts in this?

Could you film an update video on working in the ED? Now that you’ve spent some time working there, can you share how things are going?

Am currently doing my nursing degree, and they phasing out the associates in 2020, so I will be doing a dual major so I can get my BSN faster.

Great vid! Can you make a video on accredited concurrent programs? I live in GA. Googled it but didn’t find much info. I already have a bachelors in another discipline but I’m trying to decide if I want to get my ADN or just go into an accelerated BSN. Paying for school out of pocket so ADN is def looking like the better option lol. But if I can do a concurrent program thats even better

I start my program in the fall and I’m super nervous....sometimes I doubt my capabilities did you ever go through that? From what I’ve seen so far (during cpr training and scrub fittings) my cohort is not necessarily people that i could see myself ever really collaborating with outside of school. It makes me feel self conscious!

I need some advice! I just graduated high school and don’t know how to get recommendations letters if I’m not in school. I’m the first to graduate in my family and regret not getting help since I thought for the longest time I wanted to join the military. What should I do??

So I have a question can you just get your BSN instead of the ASN or you have to to get both in order to get your BSN?
