My top 3 tips for becoming a voice over artist;
1. Invest in kit. To be a voice over artist and get regular work, most of us have a studio at home. This means a mic, a soundproofed area (duvet, cupboard, self made booth or professionally made one) and something to record into (computer with software - Adobe Audition, Logic, Cubase, Pro tools, Audacity). The better you can make your soundproofed area, the better your audio will be. Check out specific blogs on how to build a home voiceover studio. 2. Get connected! Don't be shy, reach out to other voiceover artists through Facebook groups and Linked In. There are some really great online training programmes too from Gravy For The Brain and Voiceover Kickstart. Use them! If you are genuinely hungry for voiceover work and are prepared to invest in your career, you won't look back.
3. BE YOU! This is so utterly important. It's great to have role models to give you inspiration however, your voice is unique and is the main thing you should give love to. Stop comparing yourself to others in the industry, there is enough work for everyone. Don't let self doubt put you off auditioning or getting vocal coaching or investing time in making demos. It's easy to get disheartened in this job. When you do, have a brew then get back to it!
