Paul, I wonder if you realize just how important and valuable this video you made is! It is incredibly important in my estimation! As I have mentioned before, I am now almost 86 and still play in my own "music room at home" along with my extensive recording library. Over the years I have had a modicum of success playing in my own Dixieland group at Pizza Parlors etc. and with a multitude of other small combos from time to time. But it has always been a "side thing" to my "day jobs." Your vid has shown me what I needed to have seen way back in the 50s when I first decided I wanted to play like the guys I heard in various bands. If I could have comprehended the SCOPE of what I was attempting, I would have had a very different outcome. Your vid can show new trombone enthusiasts what they are IN FOR before they start out with only there own "lights" guiding them. I hope this makes sense to you and others.I did have credible teachers when I started studying in Chicago, but none put the picture as plainly as you have here. Thank you.

Super inspirational! Living in a small town, I didn't think there was many opportunities for myself as a younger trombonist. As school has gone by though, I've found more and more opportunities to express myself and play with different groups, and play in a multitude of ensembles in and out of college!

MTBone I found an open jam night at a local grill. It's about a 45 minute drive, but worth it to play with a group. You never know who might be there. There are all skill levels on different instruments. Once there was a very small turnout and it was me and a French horn and an alto sax along with rhythm and piano. We had a blast. Look around for live music venues and ask at the local college/ jr. College.

Thank you for the great video. Could you touch on embouchure? In the near future. I took your advice about taking my trombone every where. The cows in the pasture across the road from me found it interesting. If they had hands, they would have clapped. On the negative side... I'm not allowed in the theater anymore.

Great video! At my school, I’m the only trombone player and always get yelled at for not playing loud enough. I switched from trumpet to trombone. Any tips or exercises for playing louder or projecting? Thanks!

One thing it may be is that your not blowing enough air. I used to have a problem sort of like that and I know people in my school band who have that problem. The sound comes off the air you blow more than the lip vibrations which happens naturally when blowing in the mouthpiece. I'm just just saying an idea here, maybe you can ask your band teacher on what he thinks you should do to be able to play louder.

Susquehanna thats ez I would do 1/4 note c x2 b flat 1/8 notes on trombone then repeat there's a tip
