How to Become an FPV Drone Racer

FPV or First-Person View Drone Racing is a fast-paced sport where pilots race lightweight drones equipped with cameras. These cameras send a live feed back into the pilots' head mounted displays, allowing them to see only what the drone sees, making the racing experience immersive and surreal. We met up with Shreyash Rathi, Siddharth K, and the reigning champion of the Indian Drone Racing League, Aaradhya Kulshrestha to learn how one can become a drone racer and what the future of drone racing is in India.

exactly me, I love my Mavic but I want more, I want to be able to do flips and have those smooth angled shots, I will stil use my mavic, but I'm searching for a good FPV kit with controller drone and goggles under 500 that can carry an action camera, but I can't find a good kit.
@notkira_x
@notkira_x 4 года назад
@@frederikvanreusel Don't buy a kit. If you brake it you have to know all the things it takes to repair the drone that you can build one yourself in the first place. I'll say for 500$ you can get like a QX7 (130$) Eachine EV800d (90$) and than you spend like everything you have left on some decent parts. A good stack will cost like 90$ 5 cheap motors like 110$ Cheap Frame 30$ Cam and vtx maybe 50-70$ depends on the quality and receiver 20$. But the cost for all the other stuff like good Tools and Soldering Iron are not included. But dont buy a freaking eachine wizard. Many people start with the wizard BUT ITS NOT A GOOD DRONE. It has old hardware and the transmitter is pretty much garbage.

Everyone should get into drone racing!(: Also, startup is pretty expensive. For instance, parts for a single 5 inch racing drone in the US should come out to about $150, a controller that you’ll never need to replace ~$200, quality goggles $450+, a battery charger (not expensive), LiPo batteries have 3-6 minutes of flight time per pack so you’ll need multiple, basic soldering equipment, and the ability to keep buying parts. You will crash. Racing drones go through the build-fly-crash-repeat cycle constantly. It’s an amazing hobby and so much fun but startup is a pain. The more expensive items on the list I just made you shouldn’t ever really need to replace, though
@FinnJohnson
@FinnJohnson 5 лет назад
jacob james true. When I got started I got the (relatively) cheap fat shark transformer box goggles, a $100 bnf mini brushed drone, and I invested a taranis qx7 that I don’t plan on replacing for a long time. My point is if you want to invest in quality gear once, it’s not all that cheap. At least not for teenagers without allowances from their parents lol

But the thing is, we can't import these drones by ourself, and those who've authority to import drone stuff in india are selling drone parts, BNF models and everything at a very unreasonable rate. We can import frame, flight controller, motors by ourself, but can't import fpv and rc transmitter, receiver, anything written "radio" over the package will be seized by custom people.

First off, why didn’t the reach out to the real drl, or even rotor riot... why t-series? Second, These kids r loaded. It costs so much for there setup. There goggles: 400-500 $ without receiver. Transmitter(controller) 200$. The quad... 400$. And we aren’t even counting batteries, chargers, antennas, the dozens of props u will break...
@philablasta
@philablasta 5 лет назад
you can get into it for about $170 for a brushless whoop class with controller and goggles. Their quads look to be in the $150-300 range and goggles start around $250 for a decent pair. You can get an entry level flysky transmitter for $50. It is only an expensive hobby if you want premium gear.
@Bertoslav
@Bertoslav 5 лет назад
Philablasta - the quad there running, (just with the motors alone) hints that there quads are more than 150-200$ and yes I agree, you can get into the hobby 4 cheap, but for a real 5 inch setup, it’s at least 500$. And for a kid, there’s no way your going up to your parents, and just simply asking for 500-600$. Hence me saying, there loaded.

Robert Frazer, all of my 5” builds are below $300. My first one was over $500 but that was two years ago and a full KISS setup. You can literally buy a prebuilt bind and fly for $200 that is definitely capable of winning races. Honestly if you have the skills you can win with a 5” that costs $100. Check out the YT channel UAVFutures

If a kid is willing to work and there is someone willing to pay them for the work then they can afford to get into the hobby and have a 5” quad

drl and rotor riot are over rated and over priced like fatshark. box goggles and cheap parts work fine only 3 things you should spend more on antennas, fpv camera and motors

To fly drones in India you need to get a licence for it and for which the minimum requirement is that you have passed the 10th standard... So am amazed how he got away with it
