1981 Graduate in optometry here.---In 1981, there were 10 optometry schools in USA. ( $ 28,000 Student Debt). Optometry was not over populated. Foreign optometrists could not practice in USA--Life for ODs was good----I-n 2023--24 optometry schools, Night school optometry degrees. ( $ 400,000) student debt--Mail order contacts & mail order inferior eyeglass lenses; patients return and want free recheck on $ 29 poor quality, mail order eyeglasses. Liability (Mal-practice) insurance goes up every year. Frivolous Mal practice lawsuits hitting

Thank You for the infos it helped me alot. But I have two questions 1 is it necessary to take all the above courses in undergrad? 2 are all the processes same for international students to be an optometrist in us
No problem, glad it helped you! It is necessary to take all the required prequisites courses for admission. I only know info on the process for both canada and US; not sure about the process for international students since they are coming from unaccredited schools. An international student will need to apply for bridging program in order to practice in Canada or US if eligible.
Not completely certain but I guess it wouldn't be that much different. Your best bet is to contact the school you're interested in to find out for sure.
It is best to check with the school you're applying to and see what's acceptable. Sometimes they will have a list of courses that they will accept as alternative on their website
Many universities in Canada have pre-optometry (or similarly pre-medical) programs that enables you to complete the necessary prerequisite for optometry school. Take a look at the universities' websites for more details.
