I'am a french old user of GIMP, and it's really a very good sofware. For the first time, your excellent vid showed me the real use of "threshold", that I keep to 0. Usually, to preserve colors, I transform before the photo in LAB mode, and I sharpen only the L channel. In some cases also, for best photos, I put original and and an upper layer with a black selection mask.

This was extremely helpful! I appreciate the way you explained everything, alternating technical and casual terms; this made it so much easier for my mind to comprehend. The various examples to compare were also very helpful. Please consider doing more GIMP how-to's!

I'm somewhat new to GIMP I have a massive project for my American Legion. This will help a lot; if it doesn't, it's not you it's me.

I downloaded Gimp and tried this. Looks like interesting software. Unfortunately my laptop has a low resolution screen, so sharpening made no discernible difference :) I’ll continue transferring and editing photos on iPad until I have a better computer.

Hi. GIMP is something I would recommend with confidence. It's a pro-level image manipulation software, free and handles very much like Adobe Photoshop (which is also wonderful but not free). There are other free options out there but none as capable as GIMP (at least to my knowledge).

Catching up on the oldies. I feel sharper myself. Of course adding contrast can make the image look sharper too. I never use the contrast slider in Photoshop. Only the levels. I've never got comfortable with curves.

Hi! Thanks a lot for watching. I'm also reluctant to add simple (global) contrast to my photos - unless it's black and white. In RawTherapee I prefer the local contrast option and that does a very good job! Cheers!

Thank you, I'm glad you liked the video. This is, indeed, true that sharpening should be the last step when modifying photos. I believe I also say that in the video but I probably didn't emphasize it enough.

@@tom_photo hi, yes you did say it but to me it sounded as though it should be done under a certain condition? let me listen to it again and see ;)

@@cosmo0080 Yes, sharpening should always be the last step in the sequence. I'm glad you are drawing attention to this.
